  1. If your worried about the gearing i did run a Ashcroft high ratio transfer box on my V8 lightweight which had the advantage of having the same gearing as standard in low box but in high box practically the same as if changing the diffs to 3.54s. Solved the problem of running away on steep downhills.
  2. Having dealt with WVA Holdings and the two brothers that own and run the business for over 20 years i can assure you that they are a independent company without ties to Scorpion other than supplying them with some products, which they also do to a number of other well known names regularly mentionrd on here. And as already been said it is better to deal with the people who specialise or manufacture a product than just a glorified corner shop. You can buy direct from WVA Holdings under there own name Safari Equip at www.safari-equip.co.uk or if your going to Billing goand see them yourself as its the only show they go to.
  3. Had two tanks made by Andy at Allisport can not fault the quality or service and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. Looked round for a while before going to see them and decided that you dont have to pay top price but also cheapest is not always the way to go. I recon fair price, good quality and service wins every time.
  4. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Do not think i will bother with them.
  5. Has anyone experianced problems with Mach5 rims, was telling a friend i was thinking of getting a set and he said there had been problems with them. Seems some of them have been cracking where the spoke meets the centre plate. Anyone on here have any comment on this as they sem a very popular wheel.
  6. Looks really nice Mark, but a bit far to go. As Pugwash mentioned JPExhausts are only at Macclesfield which is not too far. Spoke to a nice chap called Rick who seems to know what things are about. Block hugger manifolds £450 ish and the rest of the system £350 ish. Am going to ring them again tomorrow to see if they can connect up to the manifolds i have already got, which solves some aggro. Thanks for the help much appreciated. Ian
  7. Am trying to find a company to make a stainless steel exhaust for my lightweight hybrid and am struggling to get anyone to do it. Got a pair of manifolds from a company in Lincs to check fit and then they were going to make the rest but they dont seem interested now. Got to the stage of going to throw them back at them get money back and start again. Can anyone recommend someone in the north west/manchester area that might be able to do something.
  8. Thanks for the suggestions, but not mine. Got to see the CCTV from the school all it shows is it being driven out of the gates at about 1.30, so much for modern technology. Seems older vehicles are being targetted as they are eay to steal and then they are just weighing them in as steel is at a good price, a couple of hundred quid for a landrover makes it worth their while.
  9. Have just spoken to a local land Rover spares supplier who has told me ther was one stolen from Stockport (about 10 miles away)off the chaps drive last week. So people should be aware that it is not just a one off two Lightweights stolen within a couple of days within 10 miles a bit too much of a coincidence.
  10. Between 1.30 and 4 today our series 2 lightweight was stolen from the school car park where my wife works in Cheetham Hill Manchester. Reg KVR120G bronze green, series 2 lightweight headlamps in grille, galvanised chassis, parabolic springs,90 dashboard, no rear bulkhead, hardtop, roofrack. Anyone who goes to the shows will know the vehicle as it was always on the lightweight club stand, Hopefully the school cctv will shed some light on things ,but if anyone see it about please get in touch. Many thanks Ian,
  11. Without reading all the regs and putting them in context you are making things a lot more complicated than they are. You need to read the appropriate regulations that are for the type of event you are doing. Its alright just quoting a odd paragraph from one regulation but if you dont read the whole thing it is just nonsense. The regulations do vary from RTV to CCV and there are classes that cover all vehicles, but because it is a system that runs from standard to modified the rules will not suit everyone. With every type of motorsport there are rules and to play you have to abide by them, but there will always be someone who wants to push the boundries or cheat to try and win as they can not do it on ability alone. There are other good offroad motorsports associations NORC AWDC who allow differant things if thats what you want go and play with them (just get a second mortgage) they are the big boys and spend lots to compete. Or if you want follow the basic rules and you can start with a standard land rover (plus return spring and good tow points) and compete. Dont just read the posts and dismiss the ALRC National or any of the clubs go and have a look and make your own mind up, it may be what you want, or not but at least you have made your own mind up and not just followed the crowd.
  12. Have just got back from a good weekend at Gaydon Heritage Museum there was a nice lightweight there done out as a bomb disposal vehicle running a V8 tried to catch the owner for a chat, but kept missing him if anyone knows who it was can they let me know.
  13. Ar well, it doesnt mean that they might not be in the country, but anyway if you want the contact details let me know and i will have a word with the owner who i am sure would be only too happy to communicate with you.( must remember to check profiles more carefully)
  14. There will be one on the Lightweight Club stand at Gaydon this weekend and at Driffield the following weekend. Come and have a look if you are about, the owner lives in Yorkshire and is quite happy to pass on any info.
  15. Was wondering if anyone out there can suggest where i can get a trailer hitch for a 1 ton GKN Sankey trailer. There are some on ebay but not the correct sort for the 1 ton. It differs from all the rest in that it sits between the chassis rails, not on them, it has a plate at the top and bottom and 6 bolts which pass thro them and thro the chassis rails. The reason i need one is that the one on my trailer was bent in service and the brakes do not work properly. Any suggestions would be great.
  16. It is possible to do it by using two straight cuts, there is a good article on the Pirate4x4 website which explains it all.
  17. Having been to every show at Billing except one,the changes over the years have been to the shows detriment. As a senior club member we decided to poll our members and the result was to go to Kelmarsh. As everyone was of the same opinion that things at Billing Aquadrome were just getting worse, and here was the chance for everyone to benefit and improve things. I must say that i am dismayed that all the traders and visitors who have been shouting and complaining about Billing for a number of years are not prepared to stand by what they have said and want to go back to the same place with exactly the same poor facilities, overcrowding etc. Heres hoping that it dosnt come and bit them all in the a**e. The one thing that has not been mentioned is how much longer can Billing be used to host shows with the continual increase in static caravans, there will be adequete facilities when theres just one field with a arena and a few "special" traders with everyone else being walk in visitors. As there is only one show that weekend we will be going to Billing, all i can say is we will just wait and see wether things improve.
  18. Would go with Allisport, can only praise the workmanship and quality, plus it performs as well as it looks. Very helpful when have spoke to them but has been said they are very busy (recommendation in itself) but well worth a bit of persaverance.
  19. The chap you are looking for sells the Myway roof tents and is somewhere in Lincs.
  20. Our club has just received confirmation that Billing is no more and the Land Rover Enthusiast Show will now be held at Kelmarsh Hall,12 miles north of Billing. They are saying Bigger,Better,Cheaper,Safer. Well we will have to see.
  21. Have heard from VERY VERY reliable source that there will not be anymore Land Rover shows at BillIng Aquadrome. The Land Rover Enthusiast show is going to Kenmarsh Hall about 8 miles north on the A41. Anyone heard anything on the grapevine? The reason why Billing Aquadrome is not being used is they are filling the place with static caravans, seems they make more money that way.
  22. Will these arms leave the axle in the same position, as they look slightly shorter in the photo.Dont know if this is optical illusion, or what.
  23. There are a number of differances between the civilian and lightweight chassis, besides the obivious differance in width at the bulkhead. There is the front crossmember between the dumb irons, this is primarily to strengthen the front end ,but is also how the front bumper is mounted. One point to note is that the seat belt mountings on the chassis under the front of the rear tub are totally differant to others. There are also differances between series two and three lightweight chassis, but that can get a bit long winded.Hope this helps you.
  24. The lightweight land rover club is up and running, and they are the only supplier of footwell repair panels that are correct as dispite what some of the "experts" say the footwells are different.Have a look on the clubs website at www.lightweightlandroverclub.com.
