  1. That is the same company as W H Wheelcarriers. Good stuff, well manufactured and pleasant people to deal with.
  2. We must give everyone a fair chance, but i do believe with anything as critical as this the manufacturer must be named. Already Diff has removed the ones on his truck, hopefully stopping something similiar happening to his arms. Just because a manufacturer makes one bad product does not make them bad at everthing. Situations like this help to make people more aware of what to look for when buying any part to put on their own vehicle.
  3. I am sure W H Wheelcarriers in Bradford make them in stainless.
  4. As has been previously said which arms are they. Good stuff always gets named, we should name the bad aswell and let people make their own minds up.
  5. Sorry cannot give you an exact year but can say that it is not tax exempt. The first vehicle manufactured in 1973 was chassis number 91102049 < and the last in 1972 was 91102381 as you can see they do give a grey area but unfortunately your vehicle is way outside these numbers.
  6. Have found Ironman bushes at the chassis end to be well worth it, as they are made so that when the vehicle is at rest the bushes are not under any tension. Instead of being square to the metal plate they are angled, they also seem to allow the suspension to sit slightly higher as the arms are not fighting against the bush. Used them on a number of differant vehicles and seem to last aswell if not better than original ones.
  7. If you use a SD1 clutch cover or a early series cover (the one with the triangular centre boss) a standard release bearing will fit. The car flywheel is just over 1 inch thick wheras the rangie flywheel is just over 1.5 inches. As the rangie one is heavier it will speed up and slow down slower so as FridgeFreezer said is better for offroading. Milners have not been doing the conversion kits for a while now.
  8. Get it galvanised, mine came from Marslands and has been on for nearly 10 years, no sign of any corrosion, no worries about the mot. The vehicle is used daily in all weathers outside all the time. Do the job right and do it once. Even if you do not keep it for ever, it will hold its value and be a lot more saleable in the future.
  9. My mates got a winch bumper on his 90 with a Champion winch and the coating is not good at all, been on about 10 months and not seen a lot of action. Came with the winch and was told it was one of Golddigger's.
  10. Here is a question for you all, having a ex military land rover which has always been on a Q can i just get on and modify it as its already on a Q plate. Then if necessasary put it in for the appropriate test and what are they going to do? The other thing is once your modified motor is changed to a Q what happens if you keep modifying it? Have a couple of ideas for a hybrid just wondering if it would be any less stressful starting with a Q plate motor as a base.
  11. The Lightweight Club did have copies of the handbook for the series 2a lightweight, which as far as i remember has the wiring diagrams in it , plus all the other useful information.
  12. Can anyone point me in the direction of the supplier of extrawide fibreglass wheelarch extensions for a lightweight. I can get narrow ones about 50mm cover, but i need about 80/90mm. Mate has a set on his that are 80mm, but were on the vehicle when he bought it. Lots of people say you can get them, but nobody knows where from.
  13. Have a look at the trailers on www.milspecoffroad.com maybe not ideal for what you want but look very well built and may give you some ideas.
  14. Been and had a look thro the mags,Novembers LRO Series 2a Tdi. Its a bit confusing as it says that they used the stub axle off a Td5 on the front drivers, but it also says it was the steering arm. You can not really tell from the pictures what is what. It was built by two brothers who run Tillee's Land Rover Centre,Thornby,Cleveland. It might be worth a call to try and get some more info and see if it is the way to go.
  15. Thanks very much for all your replies. Looks like i will be making them up myself. Meccano if its not a state secret how have you overcome the trackrod problem? There was an article in one of the mags and the chap had used a TD5 swivel on one side. Anyone else know about this?
  16. Before i start hacking and grinding, am in the process of putting a pair of defender/disco axles under my lightweight but keeping the parabolics. My mate reckons i can buy the necessasary brackets ready made ,but i dont remember seeing them advertised. He swears blind he has seen them, has anyone any ideas or point me in the right direction. All that will happen otherwise is i will have to put up with months of I TOLD YOU SO.

Quite simple to work out if genuine station wagon,if vin no begins with 921 to 930 inclusive it was a factory 88 sw.
  18. Try checking that there is water coming through the pipe from the inlet manifold to the top of the radiator. Air can build up over a period and give over heating problems.
  19. I know that when Mach 5 wheel manufacture was being offered around a tests were done to see how they stood up and the loadings that they would take and the results were that bad the company refused to take them on. There were cases of the wheels not being able to carry the weight of a standard motor let alone a loaded one. But i am sure it has been advertised before that they were not suitable for road use. As for the aluminium look alikes as people say if they meet TUV there can not be much wrong with them.
  20. Try JP Exhausts at Macclesfield they made me a great stainless exhausts for a V8 hybrid lightweight. Nice people know what they are on about. JP Exhausts Goodall Street Macclesfield Cheshire SK11 7BD Tel 01625 619916
  21. Thanks to you all, now all i have to do is put it in. Spent a couple of hours tracing the wiring for that alarm spider thing, so can just plug the new engine in. Think i will relocate that thing in a easier to get at place.
  22. Can someone clarify what the differances between a Disco and Defender 300tdi engine are. have searched the threads without much success, plenty on 200tdi's. Wife boiled our 300tdi disco at weekend proper meltdown two pistons gone and knackered head. mates got a 300tdi out of a late 110, but he was told would not go into a disco by a chap who came to look at it. As i have a complete but knackered disco engine, just want to clarify whats involved before jumping in with both feet. If anyone can set the story right this will be the place.
  23. Does anyone know what has happened to this company, who i think were from south Wales. Couple of years ago they were seen at most of the shows but just seem to have disapeared. They did some really heavy duty bumpers and things, most people remember their advert as they hung a ninety off a crane from one of their front bumpers.
  24. Sure i saw them on WVA Holdings stand at Billing. Think they have a website www.safari-equip.co.uk. But as everyone says VERY VERY EXPENSIVE.
  25. Have you got a description of these plates and where they go, would make it easier to help than having to first search the parts books.
