  1. I'm gathering knowledge "before" I release pix....ðŸĪŠ
  2. The whole build is being/has to be engineered. (expensive legality down here.....)🙃
  3. Rodger.... My build is a "mall cruiser" 😁 I do not need the might of the Sals. A std D1 rear end will be more than adequate. TD5 110 chassis, Disco 1 V8. ZF auto Bobtailed ass end. Series 2/3 single cab (no rear end yet.) cab to be extended 100mm ish) Tyres are 225 95 16.... New std height Range Rover Classic front springs (early blue stripe). Rear end has P38 front bags. Missing Radiator and other random bits for now... Drivers floor panel is currently 720mm off the ground... All reactions: 11
  4. Yeah, I did Google first. Saw the above. Still no definitive answer. I have Sals. I don't need the strength. I can sell the Sals (with discs) to a Perentie owner. I will need to source a "good" Disco banjo for reasonable money. Is it worth the hassle? (and unknowns for used banjo) How much weight will I save? (the only advantage) Oh and ground clearance...
  5. So, Sally is obviously more than Banjo, but how much does each weigh? 🙃
  6. The obvious solution is for Stephen to turn up some custom bolts with oversized heads from a chunk of unobtanium, then harden them in his hand crafted charcoal fueled forge . Job done, Next... ðŸĪŠ
  7. Fab work as usual (and fast...) Just noticed how "fat" the machined down TDI flywheel is. How heavy is it compared to the original 'Yota one? Might make the V8 lazy if too much mass there? ðŸĪ”
  8. Old autos, maybe. Not so with modern stuff.... (IE anything controlled with a 'puter) The no1 selling vehicles here for years are dual cab utes. Most are autos!
  9. Whatever LR 'box you choose it WILL be the fuse in your set up.... (even a pimped up R380) 'Yota bombproof engine - LR 'box of choice (fuse😁) - Bombproof diffs/axles When the tyres grip onto something grippy then you blip the juice pedal your fuse will blow.... Unless you drive with sympathy (which I'm sure you will) Just don't let anyone else "have a go" ðŸĪŠ
  10. I don't think any boost will be necessary! 200TDI to 1UZ V8....ðŸĪŠ Fitted one to a mates Hilux/4Runner. Incredible in every respect! I would go auto, from GM or Toyota. (might need computers though....)😎 Nothing from Rover will take the punishment...
  11. Hey guys, I'm not near my bags right now.... What is the size thread in the bags? Is it male or female? Need fittings to go in the bags to then go to 6mm nylon lines. Cheers Dave
  12. Cheers guys, so individual lines with two Schrader valves! 👌 Thinking about linked bags.... Is it like if one bag hits a bump it them squishes air across to the other bag essentially lifting that (opposite) side for a moment, and then back and forth? Wibbly wobbly style! ðŸĪŠ (and other weird stuff!) 😆
  13. Ok guys, I got some P38 fronts! (for the rear) Thinking just link the pair and have a T off to a schrader valve. Safety wise if a line or fitting lets go both deflate to bump stops. Anyone know the pipe size required, and fittings etc? Don't care about original LR stuff, just whatever works! Cheers Dave
  14. That bumper is the most delicate looking part of Sid!😂
  15. Forgot to say, this is a mega budget build..... So far the build has me in profit! Buying and selling, keeping the bits I want re-selling the bits I don't! So, Iam going back to suffix A steel front springs and, P38 front bags in the rear! ($175 Aussie dollars for a new pair!) Thanks for the advice. I'll start a build thread one day.....
  16. So, are the front bags a different rate/load etc to allow for the extra weight up front? ðŸĪ”
  17. Do you mean use P38 fronts in the rear and front? Or just not use rears at all?
  18. So, on my very slow project, I was planning Range Rover Classic front springs (soft) and air bag rears (soft unloaded, then pump up for a load) Here in Oz aftermarket air bag setups cost heaps. I am thinking now get a set of P38 bags and modify/mount them to my Defender chassis. No ride height control or any electrics. Just pump them up and go. What could go wrong? Anyone got decent pix of the chassis and axle mounts for bP38 bags? I know I'll need external shock mount for the front, rear should be easy Ish? Cheers Dave
  19. "We've been closer than you think, was born in Northumberland" Me too, Alnwick! 😁
  20. Ha Ha I used to be a Geordie! Born 80 miles from the Scottish border! Lived in Scotland for 3 years in the Royal Air Force! Edit, are you keeping an eye out for a V8 yet!😁
  21. I first saw this thread nearly 5 years ago with a Scotsman machining his own brake discs from solid chunks of steel.... I thought that was very ambitious. Now look at What Stephen has achieved! Incredible.ðŸĪĐ Now sort the minor teething troubles, bin the TDI and chuck a 4.6 RV8 in there! 😁 Well done Stephen!
