  1. Jon, you are right. There is now talk at the MSA of limiting tyres. At the momnent it is being considered, hence the survey. The big risk is that the MSA do not understand what we do and may apply a blanket ban. Some sites have alraedy been lost for RTV and Tyro trials because of ground damage. This will only get worse. As for those who see it as PC madness, well it is because of the damage that it might happen. Is it madness just to think it will never happen? One day you will get a fright when you find there is no land available for trials and all you will be able to do is drive the remaining green lanes that have not had TROs placed on them. Yes you are right that the numpties cause damage by spinning wheels. However 500bhp and diamonds causes damage that takes serious effort to reinstate. That is why the Forestry has banned MT tyres being used on events. We have had to appease land owners and limit tyres or we would not get the land. However, if anyone has access to several hundred (or thousands) of acres (preferably in Central Scotland) where the land owner does not mind their land being cut up, then please contact the Scottish Hill Rally Club. We will be gald to use it in next years hill rally. We might even be able to let the competitors use diamonds
  2. A lot of ground owners are complaining about the damage caused by agressive tyres. The result is either they increase the land charges, or stop the use of the land due to the damage. This will kill certain areas of the sport like RTV and Tyro trials, so how will folks get introduced to events? Most folks can't afford a dedicated Challenge spec motor and they too will run out of ground for events. This has already affected the Scottish Borders Hillrally, the British Cross Country Championship and many club level events. As examples, many sites already do not allow "maxicross", "dumper" or other obviously agressive tread patterns. The Forestry Commission are wanting to ban MT tyres or they will increase the charges to the same as rally organisers pay which will mean greatly increased event entry fees. If the sport does not take action to control land damage, we will find ourselves limited to pay and play quarries. It is bad enough the hassle from the greens about 4x4s in general and the increasing fuel costs.
  3. Sorry try http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=p9zy...P9e6p6crg_3d_3d made a mistake in the original post.
  4. I received this today regardng tyres for Cross Contry events. It may affect you in the future if you do Trials, Comp Safaris, Hill Rallies or other events. Please read and complete the survey.
  5. It wasn't the HSE that banned them. I must admit that as a Health & Safety Adviser I get annoyed that everyone seems to be blaming the HSE for banning everything.
  6. A unique opportunity to drive in some of the most beautiful areas of the Scottish Highlands. The Scottish Hill Rally Club is running a club-level event to raise money for the Royal Scottish Agricultural Benevolent Institute http://www.rsabi.org.uk/ - a charity for estate workers). Essentially a long Green Road drive, with some extras such as Regularity Runs and/or navigation tests. The event will start at the carpark opposite Blair Castle, Blair Atholl (NN 868 653) at 7:30am (have I mentioned it will be a long day?) The route will travel round Blair Atholl estate, Graigvinean Forest, through Tummel, round Loch Errochty, and then down through Dalnaspidal and Graiganour moors to Kinloch Rannoch - that's about 60 miles of amazing off-road tracks, normally completely inaccessable, with just 20 miles of public highway linking them... The cost is as follows: - For a single vehicle, with one or two people: £80 (£40 for RSABI + £40 land access costs) - for each additional person in the vehicle, £25 (all going to RSABI) NOTE: as a club event, everyone will need to be a member of the SHRC http://www.scottishhillrally.co.uk/shrc_club.htm As this is not a competition, the regulations are pretty simple: You need a 4x4 vehicle capable of driving over broken ground (so, the Subaru Impreza is out, sorry). You will not need anything more aggressive that all-terrain tyres You will not need a roll-cage, steering guards, or other underbody protection You will need to be road legal, and the driver will need to be insured to drive the vehicle on the public highway You will want to bring a pack lunch, and fuel for the distances given (60 miles off-road + 20 miles on-road), however there are petrol stations in the area. There are a limited number of places available, so please email SHGRT@hillrally.demon.co.uk for an entry form.
  7. ufactured and supplied by the same person as makes the Sumo bars, Ian Sykes. In other words, they are the same!
  8. Simon, sorry to hear about the theft of your design. I think behaviour like that is deplorable and I will certainly not be buying anything else from Scorpion Racing in the future. I'll also do what I can to let folks north of the border know what has happened. Keep up the design of innivative solutions.
  9. Great input on this topic. Just remember as Diff says check the regulations for the clubs that you compete with. As a Scrutineer, I hate having to reject a motor for anything, but a non-compliant roll cage is something I'd be quite tough on and is something you cannot often sort out in the field.
  10. Replaced the regulator last weekend. It took just under an hour. As John said it depends how ofet you drop the bolts! Thanks to All who replied
  11. Regulator. Got one off the auction site, but the wrong one Turns out I have a Storm1 engine (pre 2003) and I got a later regulator. Ordered a new one from my local specialist, should arrive today. Apparently it is a common fault and about 1hr to change.
  12. Home made Busk Whaker to remove bushes?
  13. Anybody got a clue what may be causing a fuel leak on my TD5? It seems to be coming out of the "valve block" on the head just above the starter motor. Is this the fuel regulator? If so how dificult to change and anyone got the part number? Thanks in advance
  14. I made the same mistake, never did get the stains out of the monoblocks
