  1. bolt is nice and tight, but there's no gasket. maybe i could put an o-ring on it or a fibre washer??
  2. i just looked under the bonnet of my 2.5td 110, and there was smoke and a bit of oil chuffing out of the middle nut holding the rocker cover down?? oil and water were both fine and clean, and after it had cooled down, it wasn't smoking of chuffing!?!? i checked the rocker cover breather and that was flowing freely. anyone got any ideas what that could be? Cheers, CURLY
  3. so does anyone know, or is it even posible to take up the slack in the diff on a sailsbury axle then? CURLY
  4. how do you tell if you have a detroit locker fitted? CURLY
  5. i had exactly the same happen on my disco, and it ended up being the axle breather being blocked up, pressurising the casing, and blowing oil out of the hub seal! cleared out the axle breather and it was fine ever since. only took 5 mins.. CURLY
  6. nice one, thanks for that mate. CURLY
  7. is there any way of takingh up the slack in the diff? theres a bit of back and forth play in the half shaft end plate things too. i probably have about a 1/4 of a turn of slack on the prop shaft.. cheers, CURLY
  8. maybe 30 seconds is a bit of an exageration, but it does take a while. i think if the earth strap doesn't help, i'm going to put a relay in there direct from the battery on a push switch for the glow plugs. does anyone know what size relay i should use? its gonna have to be a pretty hefty one i'd imagine.. CURLY
  9. oh, i have loads of slack in my rear diff and shafts, and was going to put one of my many other rear axles on it instead, but they aren't salisburys. maybe i wont bother! he he thanks Chris
  10. not fussed about the smoke as much as the cranking it over for 30 seconds before it starts! will check the earth strap though, that might help a bit
  11. hi there, was just wondering what the point was in the salisbury axles on a 110? i know its heavier duty than the standard axle, but range rovers had normal axles and they weighed more didn't they? just wondered really.. CURLY
  12. Just got the volt meter out and tested it at the glow plugs, and its only 9.5 volts?? the battery is at 12.5 volts though.. that cant be normal can it? CURLY
  13. oh, what size are the holes for the jacking points? i was going to use 50mm x 75mm x 3mm box section for the sliders, sound about right? CURLY
  14. Thats great, thanks Madcowz. gonna order in a bit of box section and make me a pair this weekend i reckon! CURLY
  15. yes please mate, if you dont mind! photo's of where and how it mounts to whatever it mounts to would be great! thanks, CURLY
  16. Hi there, i want to make a set of rock/tree sliders for my 110, and have done a search on here for them, but they all show them fitted into the out riggers through a tube, but looking under mine, i dont seem to have any.. so was wondering how to fit them! does anyone have any photo's of theirs i could have a look at? Cheers, CURLY
  17. he he thats what the guy i bought it off has been saying, but i didn't beleive him! its starting to chuff out a bit of blue smoke on startup too, but not overly worried as i will be 200 tdi'ing it soon! i took off the fuse and relay box cover in the cab, (under the dash.) and when i click the key on the spring to glow the plugs, all 5 relays click..?? plus when its on tick over, one of them clicks on and off with revs!!?? sounds like a rattle! he he but they individually click for different things too, like the indecators i think.. think i might have a serious amount of gremlins in there somewhere! better get my wiring hat out.. any ideas?? CURLY
  18. oh no, you dont have the same problem do you? its so embarassing starting it if there's any people around! i think my valve stem seals have had it too, cos there's some blue smoke at startup, but runs clear as a bell after 30 seconds.. might chuck some of that thick gunky stuff from halfords in it to see if that helps it a bit, and have the glowplugs checked too.. might even pop the rocker cover off and have a looky at the rockers while i've got my spanners out.. CURLY
  19. hi there, i have just aquired a 2.5 td 110, and it has a bit of a starting issue.. ~(beleive it or not.. LOL) i turn the key just before starting it and hold it for about 20-30 seconds while the choke light comes on, to heat the glow plugs i was told, but it still takes ages to fire up. then a load of white smoke comes out the exhaust for a few seconds. then it clears and runs fine. checked the oil, and water, both are ok, not creamy or smelly, so am assuming its un burnt diesel? how do i check the glow plugs without taking them out? can i check the resistance or something? or am i barking up the wrong tree? Cheers, CURLY
  20. Nige, any chance you could post up these pics? cheers, CURLY
  21. yeah! thats 'BOB'! hes a diesel now, not sure if he was there, but if not i doubt it would have made it very far through that water..
  22. isnt there an oil breather somewhere before the inlet manifold?
  23. oh great, thats the only one around here that i can drive down! its annoying that they can just close it if they feel like it.. but its even more annoying that if they do close it, the stupid chavy idiots that wreck it wont care and still drive them anyway! its only honest folk like i'm sure all forum members are, that wont.
