  1. They probably weren't real originally, but yes you can transfer a reg number as long as it doesn't make the car it's going on to look newer and it's not non transferable for some reason (normally because it's been re-registered for some reason).

  2. Tough covers are ok, I've got a worn out pair in the ibex that may of come from your mum. But they are not as good as the un-named ones I had in 45. Ironically I'm looking for some new ones too. The ones I had in 45 were two different materials the seat part was quite corse but hard wearing, the rear and sides were the aforementioned tent bag nylon but that worked well.

  3. Most people cut the inner portion off and leave it in place on the front.

As for fitting if you have a standard rear (should fit the front as well) put that in place with one or two clips. Tape up the wing, then rest the new one over the top and mark off holes to drill if it looks a little high just drop your marks down by about 15mm ish.

  4. My receipts were two donor v5's and an eBay receipt for the body/chassis. I think I threw in some random others but that was about it. Emmisions are taken from a proof of age/make in my case a v5. I have a defender 200 TDI with a v5 here if that helps. I got the impression the tester wasn't that interested in the paperwork side. The dvsa are the ones who are paperwork fussy but if you don't mind a Q plate then it's less of a problem.

  5. I IVA ed my ibex as M1 mainly because my brother in law lives in London. The N1 is supposed to be easier to pass because they test less. N1 should give you the old tax system but it may depend on engine. Why to you think you can't do M1 mine is essentially a utility wagon and I had no problems. I can strongly recommend Gillingham they were very fair and helpful. The two things I will say are go expecting to fail and come away with a list and read the manual cover to cover, he made it clear he could see I'd read the manual.

I can pm you my number if you want to chat.

Can't help on the grommet front, but i am guessing that the hole is there to fit something as an optional extra if and when required, any ideas what?.....Just interested

From memory the holes are to access the hinge bolts. Can't help with the grommets but you could use some closed cell foam cut slightly oversized and push it in.

  7. There are two types of narrow track ours is a ½ton early type (50/60s) the later is ¾ton (60/70s) although there is very little difference in tub, suspension or main part of the chassis. The hitch and draw bar are quite different though mine has a tube with the hitch on top and a doing damper (this type is easily rotated to allow use of a normal height tow bar). The later type has the hitch mounted on top of a kind of A frame designed to hitch at crossmember height (I don't know if you can alter the height). They all tow better with extra hitch weight (spare wheel up front is enough)

My one is 50s (early narrow track)
