  1. I can't see them either - I would have thought the 3.9 ones would have the extra row of bolt holes. Best to ask them, because I'd be surprised if they don't stock the correct ones.

    Good point Sir,

I'd forgotten about the difference in bolts!

  2. Thanks once again gents!

    Next question I'm afraid

Putting my shopping list together from Real Steel but can't find any mention of composite head gaskets for the 4.6, are they the same as the ones for the 3.9?

I know I could ring Real Steel tomorrow but I'm hoping to place an order 1st thing tomorrow.

    Many thanks,

    Mick.

  3. Quick up date:

Not the best picture in the world but you can see the general idea!

Just got to sort the paint work (any suggestions?) drop in the 4.6 and fit a cage!

    Mick.

Sorry if you get a sore neck!

  4. I liked the letter in one of the motor home magazines once about the same topic.

Some one had heard noises out side whilst parked up but not though to much of it.

In the morning he found they had levered the filler cover off and tried to syphon the diesel out.

He found a hose and a puddle of vomit.

    :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:

    Nearley wet myself laughing!

They had got the wrong tank and tried to syphon the septic tank!.

Just home they got a good mouth full!.

  5. Why ?

If they don't need replacing then leave alone, if they do then its machine shop time :)

    Nige

    Ah!

Had assumed they were a "if you strip replace" item like the big ends.

    Thanks for that.

Whilst we are on the subject of rebuilds anybody got any tips on removing silicon sealent from gasket surfaces?

    Cheers,

    Mick.

  6. Cheers for that Nige.

    Right Gents,

Any tips on removing gudgeon pins without wrecking anything?

I suspect the answer is a press but I haven't got one of those to hand!

I've tried using the vice and a socket, put as much pressure on the vice handle as I dared but gave up before I damaged the piston.

Is a trip to machinefart on the cards?

    Mick.

  7. We are in Hindley near Wigan and enjoy the fact that Kirton is 100 miles Corwen is 60 miles Tong is 39 miles and if we do Cowm thats only 27 miles, so we dont do bad up north, ok some of the south ones are a bit far 200miles but not as far as the cockanese have to travel to get up here :P

    Thanks all, great advice.

  8. Thanks for that,

I've read the Howling Wolf threads with great interest but I think I would be out of my league entering one of those!

Are there differing classes or do I need to start elsewhere?

    Thanks again,

    Mick.

  9. Block currently having a wash in my de-greasing tank, will post some pics when clean

Thinking of going for the stump puller cam along with other minor mods, can anybody explain preload to me please? (Cam kit specifys that preload must be set, haven't bought the cam yet so forgive me if instructions are provided.)

  10. Once you finished d*cking around with play days and green laning (not that there is anything wrong with either - it's the stage I'm at) what is the best way in to more challenging events?

Would love to hear tales of how you got into challenge days etc...

    Thanks in advance,

    Mick.

PS why are co drivers exactly that?

  11. You really are thick arnt you?

For those with an IQ less than 100

    1.Find local supplier

2.Phone them requesting the product you want and ask them to send it to you either by snail-mail or van etc.

3.Pay for item,in your case £5 all in by post or if you could wait a couple of days the van would delivery it for free "£3 for O-ring"

    4.Wait patiently...

    5.Receive O-ring

    6.Fit..

Apologies if Ive missed the point...

    Or...

Post question on friendly forum, get o-rings free, spend £5 on something else.

  12. It may have had a glaze bust / hone rather than a rebore, this removes the lip that forms, often done if being re-ringed and done properly

as then origibnal pistons used / no oversizing etc

    Pics may hellp

    Nige

    Cheers,

    Will post some pics later.

  13. Got the heads off today and it's looking too good to be true.

Motor has supposedly done 95000 miles but I can't see any wear and can still see the honing in the bores!

Would you expect to see that on a motor of that mileage or has it been rebuilt? (No sign of + 00x" on any components)

    Many thanks,

    Mick.
