  1. Thinking about instaling a Real Steel "Stump Puller" cam in my rebuilt 4.6 with stage 2 heads.

Will also order the relevant valve springs, valve guides, lifters, adjustable rods etc...

Looking for maximum grunt at around 4500 RPM, am I on the right track ?

    Many thanks,

    Mick.

  2. Stuck,

I suggest you allow for a window betwix the 'B'-pillar and the rear pillar to allow you to see at junctions!!!

And you get extra adjustment on your seat.

    Thanks Clive,

Already done that, I'm not especialy tall (6') but couldn't fit in without the middle section

    Mick.

  3. When there is nobody transmitting on a channel all you hear is noise, to get rid of this noise you increase the squelch until it has cut off. However, you will still receive all other stations. If you turn up the squelch even more, distant stations will also be cut out, if you turn it up to maximum only very strong or local stations will be heard.

Thanks very much for the tutorial Keith,Much appreciated.

  4. Hi all,

Forgive me if this is too :offtopic: but I want to fit a CB radio to my truck but know bugger all about them.

Question is does the location of the antenna compensate for it's length? In other words will a short antenna mounted up high perform better than the same length antenna mounted lower down?

    Many thanks,

    Mick.

  5. Well I spent the odd happy half hour this week clobbering the ball mount with the biggest hammer I had - perhaps a little surprisingly for someone who has been working on his RRC for three years - a 11/2lb ball-peen jobbie I have had for thirty years, and I have got nowhere. :(

This morning I decided to go and buy the correct tool for the job - Land Rover Special Tool #1 - a 4lb lump hammer :) Four whacks and it's cracked. Brilliant! :) :) :)

    May I sugest you but Special Tool #2, a 16lb sledge! :i-m_so_happy:

  6. Hi all,

4.6 now in bits and not looking too bad, quick question if you don't mind:

When I drop it in the truck I've no intention of coupling up the air con, is there a shorter belt available to enable me to loose the compressor type thingy?

    Many thanks,

    Mick.

  7. Have welded the pillars, cut and welded the roof back together so it's time to think about paint.

Although I have the equipment to spray it I have never done it before, apart from brush painting it are there any other options?

If not is their anybody in Lancashire that is willing to teach me how to spray?

    Beer tokens available B)

  8. Do you have a RAVE Workshop Manual?

It's 'free', except for your time, as a download from Green Oval. You have to know, or find someone local who knows, how to convert an image to an operational CD. Then you copy all the contents, maintaining the directory structure, onto your hard drive. Create a Desktop shortcut pointing to Rave.exe in the root directory of the CD copy.

In the RAVE Workshop manual you will see alternate methods of undoing the four bolts.

Steve_d is writing about a 99MY-on gearbox, you have a pre-99MY gearbox. The difference you have found is just one of many that were introduced for the 99MY.

    HTH

No I don't but thankyou very much for letting me know it exists! :i-m_so_happy:

    Will download it now.

    Cheers, Mick.

  9. There is a clearance hole in the flywheel aligned with each of those bolt heads.

Rotate the crank to bring one of the holes below the sump joint line. Use a normal socket (17mm I think) and ratchet through the hole and start to undo the bolt. The crank will turn until the side of the socket comes up against the sump rim. It can't then turn any further so you can undo the bolt.

    Steve

Thanks for the reply Steve but that dosen't appear to be correct, the bolt heads are on the converter side and there aren't any holes in the ring gear.

    Mick.

  10. Sorry to bother you again Gent's,

Can anybody give me any tips on how to remove the P38 torque convertor please?

Looking between the converter and starter ring gear I can see four bolt heads, assuming these are tightening some kind of taper lock how the hell do you undo them without turning the crank?

    Many thanks,

    Mick.
