  1. If you do end up fitting the 90 rear axle you may have insurance problems if anything untoward happens. cheers, Rich T
  2. When I got my 110 it had no radio so I wired one in. I saw the exact same symptoms as many have described here, wehen I braked, used the indicators or headlights the radio would momentarily turn off and then back on. This was traced to a faulty earth. Once that was fixed the stereo has worked as intended. So I would either run a dedicated earth for your radio or, better option, find the faulty earth and fix it as it will cause problems further down the road.
  3. All, many thanks for the replies. I did fully bleed and renew my brake fluid <12 months ago so was not looking to do it again so soon. I was wary about clamping the hoses due to potential for damage, I like the idea of the end cap as a way to prevent fluid loss and ingress of foreign matter. The bag under the cap I had also considered as a way to slow down fluid loss. Once again many thanks - parts due on Wednesday so hopping for a nice evening. cheers, Rich T
  4. (following on from my new discs thread....) I checked the brakes on each wheel over the weekend and each side was rubbing - so pistons not retracting fully. I whipped the pads out and started to clean the callipers/pistons - the pistons did have a ring of 'crud' around the top 1/8th or so and this appeared to be hampering proper retraction. On inspection I noticed that the o-rings were perishing - they were poking up and torn. One piston, near side front appeared to be missing a metal ring of some sort (sorry I do not know the correct term for each discreet part of the calliper) This was not really what I wanted to find but at least I found it. Looking at cost of parts and time available I am going to just replace the callipers on both sides - parts on order. My question is around removing the callipers without draining all the fluid from the brake system. Am I correct in thinking I clamp a pair of pliers (?) onto the flexible hose to prevent fluid loss? What would others recommend? My intended order of activity is to clamp both flexible brake hoses swap the callipers for new ones refit the hoses refit pads etc. bleed and top up brake fluid as required go for tentative test drive.... Any advice gratefully received. I did do a search for 'callipers' but did not find a post that really covered my (basic) question. cheers, Rich T
  5. all - many thanks for the replies and suggestions. I am away for a few days but will have a look at the weekend upon my return. cheers, Rich T
  6. Many thanks for the replies re the pistons. I used the g-clamp and metal bar to force mine back in. So... just taken her out for a test drive. I was expecting the brake pedal to go to the floor the first time I used it so gave it 'a few' before setting off and that firmed it up.. However the pedal still seems a bit spongy. Also on return the was a distinct smell of hot brakes. It was only a mile outing. Two questions... 1) Is it normal, or common, to have to bleed the brakes after fitting new discs and pads. I did not disturb the brake lines or have any leakages during the 'fetteling' 2) Is it normal to have hot smelling brakes? I did manage to get the pistons all the way back in and there was a gap between each pad and the disc when I reseated everything and bolted it all back up. Nothing seemed to be binding anyway. regards, Rich T
  7. Thanks all - I cleaned the discs with brake cleaner after fitting. One more question - with the new discs and pads the gap between the new pads is too small ti fit the new disc in. While I have solved this problem I was wondering what methods others use (are recomended) for pushing the pistons back into the caliper body to increase the gap? chers Rich T
  8. Hi, I am fitting new discs and pads (as well as wheel bearings) to the front of my G reg 110. Should I 'clean' (spray with brake cleaner) the new discs and pads or leave well alone? I am ensuring that neither the disks nor pads are being contaminated while the bearings are being greased. cheers, Rich T
  9. So the plot thickens. I ordered a ESR158 down pipe, this looking like an exact match for the broken bit - see below. However ESR158 has a two hole flange and my part has a three hole. So what part number is as long/same shape as ESR158 but has a three hole flange? I HAVE looked in various parts catalogues, including the one suggested in this thread, however nothing appears to match. Can anyone suggest an alternative and correct part number please? Below is the short extension pipe (approx 37cm) that joins the down pipe to the front silencer. What I am now thinking is to replace my broken bit and the short extension pipe with ESR159 and NTC4221. Does anyone know how far back from the rear of the chassis stringer (?) the end of NTC4221 would be? i.e. if you measured from the rear face of the bit of the chassis that the down pipe kinks over how far would this come back? I do not want to end up with a gap, or overlap! Any help greatfully, and desperatly !, recived! cheers, Rich
  10. I have now talked to someone much more knowledgable than me and he confirms I have a 200TDI exhaust fitted. So I'll go and purchase; ESR158 1 off ESR54 1 off Some M8 bolts, washers and nuts (none nylonlock!) Should I also puchase some 'Exhaust Assembly Paste'? If so any recomendations or are they all much of a muchness? cheers, Rich
  11. Thanks for that and pointing out I had the wrong part number of the extension pipe - that being said I do have a short pipe section in the system. My problem is that I currently have a single section of pipe, where the part catologues have two sections, downpipe plus intermidiate. Could/would a 200TDI exhaust system fit a 19j engine? Haveing seen a picture of one a 200TDI system looks closer to what I have than is listed in the manual for a 19J. regards, Rich
  12. The exhaust on my 2.5TD 19j has given up the ghost - well it has ruptured at the front as it crosses over the chasis and also at the back right next to where it exits the front silencer. So now I am after replacing the US parts. I have had a look at the parts catalogue and, obviously, I can't find anything that looks exactly like the broken bit, at the front! The rear is I belive NTC1666 - so thats easy. The front, however, looks like a single pipe that replaces the downpipe (NTC4426) and intermidiate pipe (NTC4421) as one. I also appear to have a ESR255 - 200TDI Pipe Extension in the line as well to add to my confusion. Does anyone know if there was a single pipe that replaced NTC4426 and NTC4421? If there is/was what was the part number and where would I get it? If not then I will have to buy both and some additional bolts, nuts, washers, an olive, etc. And put the one currently fitted down as being a custom pipe. The pipe is NOT NTC1793K - Diesel Downpipe as that pipe does not have the kink at the top that NTC4426 has. Although that is the closest thing in the catalogue I can find to the currently fitted part. As always any help much appreciated! many thanks, Rich T
