  1. I had to cut the plug off to take the loom off my old engine.. I couldnt get it off without taking the plug off. But I left 3 inches of wire on the plug so I can re-connect it
  2. Hi all.. Nearly finished my 200tdi into a 2.5TD 90... I want to use the Disco alternator.. And I had to cut the original plug off of the 2.5turbo item. The wires I have are 2 x big brown wires and one smaller red one.. How do I wire these to the Disco alternator.. Also If I want to re-use my old 2.5td alternator I would have to re-connect the lucas plug.. I didnt really take notice which way the wires were and am confused with the Brown wires.. Both are the same and I dont know where to connect each one??? Both big brown wires have NO markings on them so I dont have a clue... Can I just wire any of the brown wires to eachother?, If I got the wrong wires.. Would the alternator blow up like a bomb in a Lethal weapon movie?. Thanks.. Matt
  3. Thats perfect!. Thats exactly what mine will look like.. Yellow roof, Blacked out windows and alloys!. Thanks .. Also the above Yellow CSW gives me a good idea . Anymore?
  4. "IT RUNS!!!!!, IT RUNS!!!!!, IT RUNS!!!!!, IT RUNS!!!!!, IT RUNS!!!!!, IT RUNS!!!!!, IT RUNS!!!!!, IT RUNS!!!!!, IT RUNS!!!!!".. (These are the words I have been shouting thoughout the villege I live in for the last 30 minutes!) I have just got my 200TDI running (Disco engine into a 1988 90)... After months and months.. Well 10 months actually with the 19j 2.5 turbo. And learning how to count to 20 everytime I use the glow plugs and sat there fed up whilst the old 2.5 Turbo spluttered for another 20 seconds until it would fire.. Or the days I was lazy and just used Easy-Start.... Well them days have gone!!!. Just plumbed the 200tdi in, Even got rid of the middle silencer (Replaced it with 2 inch pipe) which means the lot of the exhaust is new now!.. Using a flat battery I attempted to start the 90 for the first time with its 200TDI in.. (The engine has been stood for over a year (Maybe even 3!!!) and only started once before I bought it.. Well just gave it 3 seconds on the glow plugs.. And BANG it fired on the second crank of the engine!!!!!!... All was not well though as I forgot that my dad has removed the oil filter!.. So soon got covered in oil so grabbed a new filter from my stores and checked everything (I was too eager the first time so learnt from my mistake).. And it Starts and runs like a brand new engine!!!. Sorry if this is a bit over the top.. But itst he first time I have removed engines on my own (Both 90 and 200tdi engines) and first time I have fitted one with help from this forum and my dad. Its also been a learning curve up to now and im wearing a huge grin... And old engine oil . Even the old engine oil is clean and not completely black!!!. Sorry, Just thought I would share with you all.. Off to go and fit the rest of it now!!!
  5. Hi all. Hoping to paint my 90 Yellow when the trucks finished (In a few weeks). I have always wanted a Yellow 90. And can get JCB paint for it!. Looked on google for photos of Yellow Defenders but they are all soft top NAS spec things. I am after any of you guys photos of yellow defenders. Prefferably 90 CSW's, There was one in Land Rover world a few years back (Their own project vehicle) But cant find photos of it on the internet??. I was tempted by Tangiers orange (G4 colour) but decided it was a bit too common compare to yellow . Anyway, Photos would be much appreciated
  6. Yeah found a disco being broken up on ebay. Hopefully will have the pipework on Saturday. Yeah thats sounds great, Does this Pete with the green rangie go on Difflock?. If so we was hoping to arrange a day out. Im also in Maltby most days.. Do a lot of work with my Dad on Behalf of "The bathroom company - peak 2000"
  7. Mine has, But it is a Discovery 200TDI I am fitting so that doesnt really count.
  8. Thats what I would love to do.. But try finding a scrap 200tdi defender!. Rarer than a leak free series . Found a disco wrongly advertised on ebay for breaking 15 miles away from me so going to ring the owner up in the morning to see if I can buy from him.. Fingers crossed!
  9. Hi all. I like many of you love my Defender and plan on spending a couple of grand on it on the nice modifications that we all love. But I am fully aware regarding the theft of Defenders. Especially around Sheffield!. And I would like to purchase a Trakker or other Tracking device. I also have some more security modifications on my Defender. And my Defender is only ever parked up in 2 Places (Home in a garage within a locked compound) and my College (This is the most concerning place for me) As 90% of the time it is parked down a quiet dead end road with no CCTV and open to passerbys on foot. I know it is inevitable that my Defender will oneday get broken into or worse.. Stolen. Im not too bothered if it is broken into.. As a window can be replaced and theres only my £100 Kenwood headunit and CB radio thats got any value in there. But I couldnt bare to loose the truck!. I am insure Third party fire and theft.. But I know that NFU will never give me the true value of what the 90 is worth. So I would like to fit a Tracking device. Looking at around £300, I just want a basic system that I can report it stolen.. Then hopefully the Police find it.. I dont need a system which tells me the cars been stolen by alerting my mobile as I visit my car every couple of hours at couple of hours at college plus theres only ever £10 of diesel in there so they cannot have gotten far in 2 hours. So what are my options?. I just want a simple and reliable system. Also can I also find out myself where the car would be if it was stolen on my Laptop/Desktop?. Many thanks.. Matt
  10. Western.. Can you get me the part number for the whole PAS pipe please? Would like to see how much Craddocks will charge for it. Just looked on Ebay and the closest Discoveries for breaking are miles away. Was hoping for some near Doncaster, Nottingham or Sheffield
  11. I think thats going to be the next call of action bicmac. I'll even buy the pump with the pipes If I have to! Where abouts in Rotherham are you located anyway?
  12. +1 But thats a diamond stone cutting disk I swear by my stihl saw!, It's older than me, Its about 30 years old! and is still on its original piston and ring and goes through scrap alluminium panels like butter Prefer to use my stihl saw over a 4.5" or 9" grinder
  13. I bought a cheepo Gas-Gasless MIG welder (COSMO from B&Q) Cost me £170. Had it nearly 3 years and it has got through two small reels of wire. And I wouldnt ever buy a Gasless welder again! The wire is expensive, You cant leave the wire in the welder for a period of time (Over a day) as the flux on the wire oxidises the wire and it struggles to pass through the liner in the torch, And it gives a messy weld and gives off lots of fumes. Just had to weld the front dumirons on the 90 (I lied, My dad did it as I dont have the condifence to do it) And it was a lot easier to use the Oxygen and Aceteline tackle. Even with 30 year old welding rods.. It worked fine. I plan to buy a bigger mig in the future, Had one where I used to work, Think it was a 270? and had argon shield gas. Played with it a few times and was more than happy with it.. So might buy one of these as finding Oxygen and Aceteline is a right Bugger these days! But cheep gasless welders are more trouble than they are worth IMO!
  14. Yeah have seen this one. He fully rebuilt it from a scrap motor!. Got photos on my other PC. Also seen it in the flesh and can say it was a nice truck!. I planned to convert my 109 5 door station wagon too but it was too rotten and I had many other projects. But they look mint when done!! 109 S3 1972 Crew cab, 200tdi, 9.00 tyres, Parrabolics and painted Limestone for the win!
  15. I agree with the staement about the Galv bumper and Reg plate. Also think that the Reg plate on the vent panel spoils it. I dont think that the price is too unreasonable.. I mean some retro fitted Disco 200tdi 90's fetch up to £4000 in some cases with their original mild steel chassis!!!
  16. Just checked on Craddocks.. Part Number : RTC5674 BANJO UNION STEERING BOX £7.85 I am assuming the LR will charge the same at the dealers?. It would be a lot easier to go to the dealers for me though much as I dont want to
  17. Thanks!! Any Idea how much the bolt "RTC5674" will be from Land Rover?, I seem to remember where I used to work that we had Microcat that told you the RRP of each part number? Any idea wheter I can use my original connector on the hose I took a photo of with the bolt "RTC5674" My dad is positive that it will fit???? Many thanks for all your lots time.. Matt
  18. Will the pump fit 19j pump directly fit onto the 200tdi engine then?. And where can you buy the hose from? thanks.. matt
  19. No I dont have the Discovery pipes at all. So think the best thing I can do is try to get hold of them. But again.. Its going to be a big setback as my local scappies dont have any discoveries and I now dont have the use of a car. (The Defender is/was my daily drive). Unless anyone here has the hi-pressure discovery pipe and banjo bolt that connects it to the pump
  20. Just got round to getting photos for Western to identify ... ande84, Do you have any photos of your explanation?, Not quite sure on what you mean?. I also have a Pirtek within 10 miles away so thats an option but I do need the banjo bolt that I am missing before I visit Pirtek dont I? P.S also added a photo of the 19j pipe which joined the 19j pump Thanks... Matt
  21. Hi, Perhaps you should buy the DVD "A 4X4 is born by Mark Evans". If you have not seen it, It is a DVD based around his project building a Hybrid like yours on a 1982 RRC. He swapped the original LT77 box with a shorter R380 unit (Mated to a 3.5 rover v8). I should imagine if you want a manual. Just go for the LT77 (Fitted from all 90-110's from 1983 - 1994 I believe) I also believe that you might be able to swap the longer bellhousing on a Disco/Rangie LT77 box with a 90-110 item, This would then bring the gear knobs in the right place?. But you will need to move the gearbox x-member and then you will need a longer rear propshaft. A way of telling a LT77 from an R380 box is that reverse is in a diffent place (LT77 is Left and up) Whereas (R380 is Right and down) Hope this helps.. Matt
  22. Hi all, I am wanting to "modernise" my 1988 90 (Defender). One thing I would like to change is fitting a later defender steering wheel. It currently has a 12 inch astrali wheel (aftermarket) and it had the "Butteryfly" 4 Spoke steering wheel which the PO removed. However I would like to know which wheels will fit straight onto my Steering colom?. I would like the kind fitted to the 200tdi and 300tdi or even TD5, Will these fit?. Also Diametres of the 200tdi/300tdi steering wheel would help. Many thanks, Matt
  23. Hi all, Got the TDI lump mounted in my 1988 90. Realised that the fuel lines for the 200tdi Fuel filter are 100mm to short so went out and bought some pipe but all i could get was rubber petrol pipe (Printed on the pipe it says suitable for unleaded). Will this be okay for use with Diesel? It will only be temporary as I plan to fit clear fuel lines but will the Rubber petrol resistant ones be safe to use (I'E not break down and turn to gunge) Many thanks, Matt
  24. Yes but at £250 its not cheep! Got a quote last week from Gwyn Lewis
