  1. These are from when there were a few more bits attached:
  2. Pictures will be a challenge for just now! (In the middle of the North Sea) but I'll see what I can do.
  3. Hi Guys, In a difficult position where I am moving house and need to potentially sell up my 90 project. It's a sad day, but if I can't get a reasonable amount back from it then I may be forced (with the lightest of nudges) to keep it and find somewhere for it to live. It is/was a 1990 (H reg) van back, which was a 2.5td. So, the big question: what sort of value do I put on it? Good points: Galv chassis Straight body work Brand new springs and shocks Nearly new mud tyres Bulkhead in good condition (apart from a bodged foot well repair that needs fixed) Brand new windscreen and seal Bad points: Some assembly required!! Needs a 200tdi dropped into it, 2.5td has been scrapped A new gearbox would be worthwhile at the same time Is a £1500 price tag a bit ambitious? I know you never see your money back out of projects but 2nd hand galv chassis maybe £700, big mud tyres maybe £500, plus all body panels and suspension/axle components? Any help is always appreciated from you knowledgeable spanner handlers! Cheers, Robin
  4. Try a breaker bar, or a long bit of scaf bar on the 1/2 inch t-wrench. Don't do it on the wratchet! If nothing, as they say on the rig, "if in doubt, give it a clout" try a bit of shock therapy with a persuader.
  5. If I had the cash and the know how I think this would be a mint learning experience, you might even end up with a challenge truck made of pure torques!
  6. It's a second hand engine, it has the relevant engine numbers. My neighbour runs a garage so an inspection with a headed letter to verify would work, right? Thank you all again, always an endless supply of useful information
  7. I am planning a re-build of my 90, it has already been put on a galv chassis by the previous owner. I plan to replace the the knackered 19j with a V8 ( I can feel the sharp intake of breathe, yes I plan on cutting and welding my galv chassis! It's the only one I've got!) I will be changing the gearbox along with it but retaining the original axles and steering components. Can anyone help me out with where I stand with the DVLA? I obviuosly would like to stay above board in terms of my logbook. I don't have a receipt for the chassis, or work carried out on it? I will have the relevant engine and gearbox numbers. Any help would be appreciated, I've read: http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/+/www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/BuyingAndSellingAVehicle/RegisteringAVehicle/DG_10014246 But I'm still wondering?
  8. So can the rangie long bell housing lt77 be mounted on the same mounts as the 4 pot lt77? Thus keeping props the same? Thanks for the link it was very helpful!
  9. Hi all, Excuse my ignorance but what gearboxes can I pair up with a 3.5 v8? I have an lt77 from a diesel, can I use the bell housing from this? Any help always appreciated. Robin
  10. Hi All, Been offered a v8 and gearbox at a very reasonable price, have a 2.5td which overheated to come out of my 90. Apart from engine mounts, gearbox mounts and wiring to change is there anything else to consider such as prop shafts? Any/all help is much appreciated, Robin
  11. Hi, I tried a search but apparently 'v8' doesn't have enough search characters?
  12. Hi guys, I've got a 90 td that is need of a new engine. Has anyone converted this to a v8? What engine/gearbox did you use? Where there many difficulties? I only use it for playing in, and love the noise a v8 makes! Any experience would be much appreciated! Thanks, Robin
  13. Thanks Nick, yeah it's a 2.5td and it's already on a galv chassis. There's a post on here in the tech archive about an adaptor braket for changing the chassis mounts without having to cut the existing chassis mounts to fit the 300tdi. What I didn't know was whether i needed to change the gearbox mounts? Thanks, Robin
  14. Hi guys, Going to be starting a 300tdi conversion on my 90, been doing a bit of research and like the look of 'foggy's' engine mount so there's no need to chop up my lovely galv chassis. My question to you is what is the difference in mounting the engine on the existing lt77 or a replacement r380 (apart from the bellhousing?). Does the engine sit further forward/back? Are there different mounts for the gearbox? Any help always appreciated, Robin
  15. Hi Nige, Don't know if your still looking but I have an XC90 fitted with general UHP's all round and it hasn't put a foot wrong either this year or last. I am a farmer with a farm track that is about half a mile long with a couple of hills and it just eats it up in the snow. It's my wifes car but which is getting about 35mpg running about town, on a long run it gets 40ish. It also has a VERY large load bed and space for 7 if needed. As for servicing costs they are on a par with what you'll be used to with the BMW, and in two years servicing is all it's needed. Compared to my dads 530d the seats/ seating position is a pleasure. To be honest if it's particularly cold and I don't fancy freezing in the 90 i'll take it up the fields and it only got stuck when a water main had burst and I didn't see it! Hope this helps (and not adding too many vehicles into the equation!) Robin
  16. Yeah there's some mildy warm air coming from the heater, I'll give the bleed off a try. My first reaction was water pump, but they seem to either work or not with nothing inbetween?
  17. Hahaha, made me chuckle into my breakfast!
  18. Morning All, I'm coming near to the end of my repaint piece back together and as the engine (19J) hadn't been run for a while I fired her up and left her sitting. Came back about an hour later to find it was overheating, not quite to the red but not far off. The top hose and bottom hose were both HOT! My father-in-law was round and he suggested that there may be an airlock in the pipes, is this a reasonable suggestion? I need to add that the radiator was flushed out just before it was taken off of the road about 9 months ago (children slowing progress!) Any help would be greatly appreciated, Robin
  19. Hi guys, I need some help with the bolts that hold the winscreen hinge to the windscreen frame; what size are they? Any help as always greatly appreciated! Robin
  20. Thanks for the info guys, I'm fitting steel wheels so the centre lip shouldn't be a problem.
  21. Thanks for that guys, that really helps! Smiles: Did you fit spacers then alloys?
  22. Thanks, but I've tried that. The wheels are 285/75 or 285/65 I can't remember which so they are quite wide!
  23. Hi All, I have a question about fitting wheel spacers to drum braked rear axle? Is it possible? It was my understanding that you couldn't fit alloy wheels due to the heat produced from the drum, so presumably the alloy wheel spacer wouldn't fare any better? the reason for fitting spacers is that the previuos owner of the truck fitted some LARGE wheels, but they rub on the radius arms. I don't have the cash at the moment for new wheels and tyres so a cheaper fix is to fit spacers for just now. Thank you in advance, Robin
