92 RR should have had a Borg Warner transfer box, not an LT230.
Or a discovery, same thing, different clothes 😆
It's a 28D suffix E

I'm sensing a pattern
But not Britpart 😉
I'm on an NHS wage Pete and the the whole conversion is going to see me in for £5-6k, so I don't want to be spending money foolishly 😉👍

Thanks, I have cross drilled input gears in my transfer boxes, they're cheaper than gearbox output shafts 😁

Thanks for your feedback uninformed, I think the gearing will be spot on.
The transfer box is from a 1992 Range Rover so should be up to the task and will get some Ashcroft attention before being refitted 👍
I've seen some pictures of those diffs, fortunately my budget doesn't run to buying late parts and paying more money for cheaper parts isn't my thing 😆

OK Nige,
It's going in my 90
M57n with 6hp26x auto gearbox
Transfer box 1.2 ratio with standard diff
33" tyres (255 bfg)
Rear axle has 24 spline pegged arb with standard shafts
Front axle is a bog standard 10 spline axle
Cheers 👍

No worry's, do we get to see the M57 install?
Of course, on my thread after Christmas 👍

Thanks guys, I do indeed have and intend to keep the earlier stronger CVs and hubs, so it'll just be a matter of presenting Mr. Ashcroft with one of my kidneys for some HD half shafts and drive members. Interesting and reassuring that a standard 24 spline diff should be up to the task.
My thanks to you gentlemen

So I have an old 10 spline Front axle. I expect this will struggle a bit with the extra power.
What do I need to do to make this stronger on a budget ?
I accept this will need to be 24 spline and that I will need Ashcroft shafts to match the diff to the cvs but I don't really want to go to the expense of another locker or atb if I can avoid it.
Any suggestions ?
I'll be running a standard 220hp engine map and a 6 speed autobox with LT230.

The problem that plagued the Landy the entire trip was the turbo.
I ordered a recon unit and fitted it..the truck is now as good as it could be
I can identify with that problem 🥴

I just live with mine being dirty, it's free 🤪 it's the inside of it I'm more concerning with.

Well it was a while ago, 13 years ! IIRC we crossed to Ceuta drove south through the 3 Atlas ranges and down into Morocco. We did the dunes at Erg Chebbi, Todra Gorge, Cathedral Gorge, Cirque du Jaffra and other places that I can't remember. The Atlas Mountains and the cedar forests are truly magnificent !
I remember the begging by the children, pens and sweets mainly but for food by the small shepherds and shepherdess' high in the mountains.
The other chaps went the following year too down the West coast though I missed that trip.

I haven't seen a photo yet of the man who used to materialise out of the ground in the middle of nowhere with his rug and bits for sale, when you stopped for more than 15 seconds.
Tell me he's still there ! 😁

Still it zaps energy and enthusiasm... after my engine woes at the start of the year, I've still not really recovered my enthusiasm for spannering them, I very nearly sold up and bought a Subaru the other week... I think I'll be selling off a number of LR related projects before completion now. I'll keep 1 as I plan to electrify it, but LR interests are finally starting to wane with me.
I've been there Maverick on several occasions and I only own one Land Rover product. I don't think my nerves would stand any more LRs without a nervous breakdown.

I use a Cinch 4 man with my bed longways 👍 dead easy to put up and take down.

If it all went well and was easy Jeff, it wouldn't be a Land Rover 👍

An enforced absence for a time in Land Rover land, and more disruption looming. House re-decoration has apparently been required because her sister is coming to visit.
Anyway, a quick update on this one. The brackets as shown above didn't work out, because yes, you guessed it, the c/l of the old 2.5 NA is different to the RV8 - the whole engine and transmission system have to move inboard by about 1½".
So I ended up chopping the Disco 1 RHS bracket down to fit under the seat mount:
Then I chopped off the end of the original NAS gearbox side mount and welded to plate to act as the chassis mount, and an original 300TDi type mount to bolt to the gearbox
My old tin of Hammerite has gone a bit like toffee, but they'll do. Bolting all that together RHS:
And the LHS:
So that all sits very tidily:
All good, and about ½" clearance between the top of the gearchange remote and the front edge of the 300 TDi seat box.
Nice
Job done?
Probly not. This will get me going for the time being, but I'll keep an eye out for a reasonably priced 300 TDi cross member and the rest of the bracketry as in this pic from above...
I'll worry about all that again when it comes to fitting the exhaust.
Slightly off-topic, but I assume I'll need a 300TDi rear propshaft? That will be good for 195 ft.lb at 1,800 rpm, Is it going to take the max torque from the V8 though? 230 ft.lb at 3,100rpm? I'm assuming the Disco 1 front propshaft will work fine...
Wow, your chassis is very ... erm ... yellow ! 😯🙂

You could always get a Premier Inn, very warm, wind resistant and takes up no room in the back of your Land Rover 😁

@simonr hey Simon, I was thinking that more assistance at the pedal would help with firmer braking where I have to push harder on the pedal.
@Northwards I know James did a conversion with a Discovery double diaphragm servo and Discovery master (as I now know Mike has also done) but I would rather use Defender parts.
It would be nice if someone who has fitted the Defender double servo (and perhaps the pedal box as well if it was necessary) to a single diaphragm system could relay their experiences.
