  1. Thanks Ian, I think I'll stick with reality, my simple little beast should be just fine. 8K with one of these, why???? Wouldn't it be better to use a newer tech engine or a big block chev? T
  2. Hey Neil, Was going to call you today have your number from Streaky. Is your veh a dbl cab, it was designed specifically for one using 2 rear ladders to support it. Will take some photos and post tonight. Next time you come down this way drop by and take a look if you want. Cheers, T
  3. Has anyone out there done a tear down/re-build using just the LR manual and the parts listing for the chassis, and have found a few anomalies to say the least ! Is it worth getting the Haynes manuals? T
  4. Thanks, will range mark mine accordingly, much appreciated! T
  5. Thanks again Jim, Received an email from Eezi-awn with a diagram so I'll figure it all out on the weekend and send them a list of what I need! Might be able to get it included in the shipping with Ryan in Dubai, will see how it all works out! Great pictures posted in the Africa Middle east, the Hippo shot is cute, how close were you able to get for the photo? Cheers, T
  6. Thanks FF, I'm running a Holly 4 brl carb, definitely has more go than the dual carb set up. Thanks for the tip on the headers, i was hoping to get stainless with a ceramic coating! Ciao, T
  7. Hi Streaky, The new rack is definitely going to be aluminum, with the steel the Cof G was way to high, and, it took 4 guys to lift the freakin' thing off, it was home-made by the previous owner up in Saudi. I will call Neil (and two more friends to help put it on!) quote]Whats with the weird back end of the 110? Looks like it used to be a 110 and was then jinglied into being a crewcab? The vehicle was made into a dbl cab up in Saudi as well, the 1st owner was a sheikh up there and bought the plans to modify (chop) the cab. The back end is actually a box done in chequer plate with storage lockers on the sides. The cage was welded on to keep everything in and lashed down while going through the dunes. I think they realized how top heavy it was and just slept up there. It will be re-worked to have quick release sides. Mmmmm Molson good, might have to bring hockey sticks with me I would love to come up camping, however, my goal is to get this carnage back together soon! They should talk to LandymanLuke, I'm sure he could design something in a touch screen vertically mounted! Jim, thanks for the info, I will check into getting something soon! Ciao, Tracy
  8. Again thanks Streaky, It's mostly the small joints/swivels that were damaged/twisted, I will head out to Mussaffah and see what i can pick up, there are quite a few aluminum suppliers out there, part of the fun is getting the the language barrier! So it will be a project for next week, after I get the body off the frame. Cheers and thanks, Tracy
  9. Thanks for the info Streaky, Very helpful, i will definitely talk to the rego folks. and stay away from the mild steel. I'm surprised regarding the ceramic coating, I thought anything can be had in Dubai , When I'm done with fabricating the new rack, I'll get rid of the old one, v-cheap. When I was reading about team Saluki, I noticed the side vents, great idea, they look good too! (Guess they'll need a HUD-Heads up Display for next year!)
  10. Thanks Mike, I have, I just haven't heard anything back yet! Will see what happens in the next few days, I might just contact the SA office by phone! Cheers, Tracy
  11. Apparently, when enjoying a few "cool ones" under the awning after a few hours work on the truck in the desert sun, one should stake it down, one never knows when a sandstorm blows up and makes a big kite out of it Any ideas how to get parts for an ezi-awn awning? I tried emailing two different distributors to no avail. Thanks, Tracy
  12. Thanks for the info guys, Jim, I like this theory, I can think of few buddies who could be talked into testing over a few beers Any ideas where I can find the ceramic coated headers, are they avail in SA? I've checked the obvious suppliers websites in the uk without a lot of luck. My preference is to change out the complete exhaust to headers and stainless 2.5" pipes. Is it worth it? The engine was rebuilt less than 3000km ago (before i bought it), new crank, pistons/rings, valves, holley 4bl carb with edlebrock intake. The previous owner couldn't find headers here, so he just left it as is. Rog, let's see if this works Looks like it worked, the rack took 4 guys to lift it off, anyone in the UAE want it? I'm doing a new one in aluminum with a removable aft section. The interior is gutted, the tubs and box are coming off next weekend, i'm going to strip the frame, cold zinc spray it, black epoxy paint and something similar to waxoyl, the re-assemble all the bits, new interior, dash, headliner, rock sliders, etc. Was just given a set of LR bull bars (need re-painting) Wouild also like to add newer style doors too. Ciao, Tracy
  13. I've heard from a co-worker that headers don't have the same heat dissipation and that they will actually increase temp in the eng. compartment, so any inrease in pwr isn't worth the trade-off (since we're in the desert) and that I would be better off to stay with stock manifold and just put the over-size exhaust on. Does anyone have any comments or thoughts on this. There have been some threads regarding increasing the airflow in the e-bay and over-heating issues for people. Up until the tear-down started I had no o/h problems with the dual fan install and bonnet vents in hi 40's heat working the engine fairly hard. Don't really want any after the truck is done! Cheers
  14. Good day all, Does anybody have information as to what the rev/rpm limits would be for a V8 NA? The only data I have is as follows Max pwr @ 4000 rpm, Tq @ 2500 rpm. I'm setting up a VDO marine tacho need to make sure I have the correct range. Thanks,
  15. I've lost the thread, A while back there was a link for coverting the Def. park brake to the top of the seat box using a RR lever, does anyone remember this? I believe Ralph posted the link, however I've lost it! Please refresh my memory! Cheers Tracy
  16. Jason, We have one in Musaffah, everything comes from Sharjah, they don't stock anything here, and they gentlemen have a very limited understanding of english, if you take the part #'s in, it's a lot easier. I have mates I work with going to the uk all the time on leave (we do a 56/28 day work/leave rotation) I have picked up a few items on ebay etc. My rebuild is coming along. What type of Landy are you driving in Dubai? Cheers, Tracy
  17. Thanks for the info, great pictures and very informative, will give it a whirl in the new year when my new seals arrive from the UK. Tracy
  18. Has anyone come up with better heater ctl cable housing? I'm trying to find one with an outer jacket covering and a teflon liner, maybe a small diameter marine shifter cable. The other option is coating and baking the cable itself with a moly coat then wet assembling with CPC2 or some sort of teflon lube. Has anyone tried anything like this? Cheers, Tracy
  19. I'm not sure I agree with you gentlemen, Living in Abu Dhabi has me thinking, How many people do we know that can read a magazine/newspaper, smoke a ciggy, have something to drink, eat, talk on their mobile, try and keep the kids from climbing over the seats, while waving their arms all over the place, doing 200 kms/hr! With only two arms and legs that would make them an incredibly "gifted" driver. I passed a RR Sport a few days ago, I did a double take, the driver was partially turned in his seat, talking on his mobile, no hands free or bluetooth and waving his right hand around, he was steering with his bare left foot I couldn't believe it! Nearly sh*t myself when I saw his foot on the wheel! They don't drive their trucks here they aim them and launch them like missiles, A Defender doesn't go fast enough for them here, and it's not big enough to be a Hummer. The society has the LAMB mentality, Look At Me Boys! The sad part is there is a lack of understanding of the consquences, whether they get hurt/killed or someone else does! Proper driver education and personal accountability will go a long way in the middle east when it comes to driving.
  20. Thanks for the info, I'm in the middle east, so I'll have to wait until I can get a couple of new seals via mail order! Cheers, Tracy would that be paddock, britpart, etc for after market spares?
  21. Hey All, Just found the NA forum, I'm in the UAE and have a 85 110 V8 Dbl Cab and am planning to ship it back to BC next year. I've been doing some research through customs, my question is, do any of you have any wisdom regarding importation, I'd like to fill the conatainer with spares, any idea what customs' take on this would be? Cheers, Tracy
  22. I'm thinking of removing the glass from my front windscreen on an 85 110, I had a little go at it tonight after reading the manual and thought best to see if any of the guru's have any tips for me before I make a fatal mistake and have to go looking for a new front glass? It looks pretty straight forward ,that's the part that has me concerned/freaked out. I'm looking at re-painting the windscreen and bulkhead and would like to do it right, should a new seal be used when re-fitting the glass? Cheers, Tracy
  23. Thanks for the great info, I will heed it, walking isn't very crowded in the desert 2 questions, does the plastic one fit in the original mount aand, is there a lot #/manf# to avoid in the plastic series? Cheers, Tracy
  24. I've removed the resevoir to repaint and recoat the inside and have diecovered a huge build-up on the inside. The rad doesn't appear to be plugged, it was working fine before I parked the truck for the restoration. Engine is a V8 NA which runs fine (rebuilt less than 3K kms) have had no overheat problems driving it here in the desert. I can find a used one and I'm suspecting it might be the same condition, so my question is, has anyone converted to a plastic type? The rad and the resevoir both have pressurized caps, if the resevoir was unpressurized what effect would it have on the rad? A plastic one can give a larger capacity, what would be the drawback of using a plastic resevoir other than a visual faux pas? Any comments, suggestions? Thanks, Tracy
