  1. Hi there my landy a 90 2.5TD (doom 200tdi hopefully) I noticed that if I have to break a bit hardthe back of the truck just skid and I could easily lose control of it and that's only at around 40mph and worse if I'm coming down a hill. There's new brake pads and caliper in front and the back has got new drum wheel cylinder shoes spring. Any ideas what causing the landy to skid so badly if I brake heavily! Any advice are wellcome thanks a mil thierry
  2. Thanks John for the reply I'm going to do my cambelt rear and front crankshaft oil seal tomorrow and hopefully drop the engine in next week. I'll let you guys how I get on. Kind regards thierry
  3. hi guys thanks again.how do i make sure that the cooling system is not air lock? i think i might use my own down pipe which is on the td. i'll have a look at both engine tomorrow and see how they both look. and also can i use the TD power steering pump and pipe? i guess so. tahnks thierry
  4. hi there sorry for the late reply, was away to collect the defender 200tdi engine it's in th shed now and i'll start the conversion in about a week. so it seems there's no welding or chopping do i need the whole exhaust system or just the down pipe from the 200tdi vehicle? thanks again guys thierry
  5. yeah i meant an early 90 mine is a 2.5TD. i might get a 2.5 TDI defender engine. i know if it's from a disco there's the exhaust down pipe, radiator mounting, clutch pipe, intercooler hose etc which need modifications. will it be easier if it's a from a defender itself? what are the modications needed fro a defender TDI into an early 90? thanks thierry
  6. hi there just some clarifications, if i manage to source a 200 or 300 tdi engine, how much modification are there more than using a disco 200tdi? i'm aware about the disco but don't know nothing of what to expect with a defender engine. any advice is wellcome thanks a mil Thierry
  7. hey pete thanks for that i had a look at the box and your're right guess i'll have to source somewhere else thanks thierry
  8. hi there i think i've put this post ages ago but i did'nt see and thread on the tech archive. but it's quiet straight forward the only bit which is tricky is to remove the old cv on the shaft i've secure the shaft in a soft grip and use a copper mallet to knock the cv off. don't forget to put a new circlip when putting the new cv. also i've cable tie the caliper first instead of rmoving the brake hose so avoiding the bleeding hassle. ask if you are stuck with something thierry
  9. hi guys got a disco 1 cheap one going to do the conversion 200tdi in and 2.5td out. just wondering about the t-box and main box will they be a straight swap or do i need to modify them so that they fit. any advice are wellcome thanking you in advance thierry
  10. Hi thanks for that info I'm going to stock some as well. Next job is the conversion I'll like to do it before winter arrive don't really want to be working in the cold trying to undo some nasty bolt!
  11. hey i'm back diff on took me around 5hrs stip the hub change the bearings as well. it actually took me longer to stipr all the bits than putting them together about 1hr. i use a hydrolic jack put it on jack it up and got under the truck and i guess its luck but i slide in once and perfect was so glad. so after all that was topping the oil in the axle..... and when i was putting back the filler plug..bang the rachet slip and landed next to my eye on the bone open it thats hurt i can tell you!! but did'nt let that bother me even though i was bleeding a lot. some vaseline and went for a test drive and no whine at all was so happy then went to play in the mud with the diff lock in low and high as you've advice on a different post. so much fun. and end up having some stiches, a black eye and a couple of cut on the hands! not so bad . so just want to thank you everyone of you guys who helped me i really appreciate so a BIG THANK YOU and i know i be asking for more advice soon with the landy messing around with me thierry
  12. i'm getting a bit worried of tackling this on my own now!!! but it has to be done as that's my only transport. do i need to apply a sealant as well with the diff gasket or just the gasket will do?
  13. hi there just to clarify when removing the diff there's the steering rod which is just under it( i think it's called the steering rod!) if i remove the ball at each end will that alter the steering when i put it back? will i have to re-adjust something? thanks thierry
  14. Yeah I think that's the best way to do for me I'm sure that doing the swivel bolt way is good as well but my truck is old and my be a pain to undo the bolt. I know the caliper bolt are a pain as well bug I've tackle them a coupleof month ago and did the cv's and shaft so I should be ok and more comfortable doing it bits by bits it might take a bit longer
  15. That was the way of doing it but wanted to know if there was an easiest way of doing it without stripping the hub. I' ll let you guys know how I get on tomorrow hopefully I won't get stuck
  16. Yeah that make sense but once the diff is on it won't foul with anything around? Thanks for the reply Thierry
  17. Hi guys I've received my front second hand diff today from paddock. There's something on it that I don't think it's on mine! It's just a circular piece of metal about 1 inch thick and 12or15cm in diameter and bolted on a support near the flange. There's a metalic cable attach to it as well. It can be remove easily by undoing the bolt but just wondering what's the purpose of it? Thanks thierry
  18. i'm going to tackle that next with all your advice as well hope everything goes well thanks you so much guys thierry
  19. i know its pretty heavy but i'll have to manage with it. i might use a jack or similar to get it off the groud and close as possible to the axle. you did'nt remove the caliper just undo the swivel bolt did you?
  20. cool sound pretty like a bolt job i've got a really good second hand one just going to take the old one out and put the other one. aand i've got some good pieces of timber around the yard so i'll used that to rest both disc on. thanks again for the advice guys it make lifes much easier.
  21. so what i understand is to remove the wheels remove these 12 point bolt of the swivel get out a few inhes and if i put the wheels back on or support the whole assembly with an axle stand i should have enough room to remove the diff? let me know if thats wrong or not please. thanks
  22. Thanks yeah I've read different way of doing it so I'm trying to figure out the more efficient way of doing it
  23. Hey guys find out the loud whining noise where it's coming from. Need to replace my front diff. So I'm going to get at it next week. Just wondering the easiest way to do it. I've replace the half shaft and cv before and I know both shaft should be move inorder to get the diff out. Is there a different way of doing it rather than removing the brake disc etc? Thanks for your help Thierry
  24. Yeah i will start playing with it next and get the feeling thanks again guys
  25. That's really of great help now at least I know what Im looking at and what to do thank you so much guys really really appreciate King regards thierry
