  1. Hi all, i tried searching for this one and it pulled up one similar fault but no answers to it. I have a leak in the rear of my D1 here... Its coming in along the seam of what looks like the roof and side panel. Its bad enough to make quite a puddle in the back in light rain. Its no good sealing up the inside so i need to find out where the water gets in and seal that. Its not the alpines or sunroofs and its above the side windows so not them either. I have read the landrover tech bulletin regarding leaks but they go on about cant-rails and stuff and i wouldnt know a cant-rail if you shoved it up my arse So where/how do i go about sealing this bugger up??? Any ideas?? Dave
  2. I've checked all the glass-rubber and ruber-steel joints, i'm satisfied that they are all dry, it seems to be coming from the roof-body joint but where do i stick my sealant???? Dave
  3. Ok so i got the hose out and flooded the poor old girl, found where my water is getting in but now need to find how to stop it doing so . Wider view of the area... It drips along this seam most of it runs down the rear pillar and onto the floor but if it was there, it would also run off the plastic trim onto the load space cover. So, where is the likely target for sealant??? Anyone got any ideas of the design of the roof/body joint, if i knew how it was made it might help. It cant be getting in any lower than the gutter line as it dont run upwards so it must be in the gutter seam somehow. Whats the best culprit???? Thanks Dave
  4. Er, what car, engine, transmission???
  5. Careful with the actuator, its a bit delicate. The best way to get access is to pull the manifold/turbo off, the actautor rod can then be slipped off and the wastegate can be tested. I checked and set my replacement turbo actuator by connecting it up to a regulated compressed air supply at work, tuning it to 12psi and then adjusting the rod length so it 'just' slips over the actuator pin, lock it up and fit a new clip - job done. When tested with the boost gauge it regulated boost to just under 12 psi which i was happy with and proves the method worked. The shaft can be sloppy sideways but not much endways and the rotor should never touch the housing. Try not to spin it too much as they run in oil bearings and there's no oil when the engine is off. Rocker cover can leak, maybe worth investigating further, wipe down and re-check later. Dave
  6. Temporarily fit a boost gauge, its a great tool for an insight into turbo function. I used one to diagnose a failed turbo on my 300tdi, i might fit it permanently when i get a chance.
  7. Don't sound too bad, whats the mileage on her??
  8. There are wiper motors on ebay, this could be the self-park switch in the motor or the stalk on the steering column i think. My money is on the motor
  9. The downside is that vehicles are being fitted with substandard parts which raises the failure/breakdown rate and lowers the view of landrovers in potential buyers eyes i.e. "oh they're always breaking down" etc when its caused by fitting cheap carp parts. If they are not fit for purpose, they should not be available. Britpart should be learning from complaints about poor quality. I'm lucky as being a relative newbie, i listened to all the warnings about them and now only use them as an absolute last resort.
  10. Correct me if i'm wrong, but surely single, twin or triple shocks wont affect ride height??? The shocks and springs have different jobs to perform, the springs support the weight whilst allowing articulation while the shocks prevent the weight from bouncing uncontrollably after every bump. The two need to be in balance for good suspension, lifted or not, and i haven't heard (or i dont think so) anyone saying a lifetd car tows better:) BTW Does Britpart stuff last beyond the one year manuf guarantee? if not then just return it surely? I have fitted some of their stuff but i'm now following the rule that if it contains or pumps fluids, is a bearing, seal, or hard to get to, then fit good stuff
  11. Hi, try this... Swivel replacement There should be something of relevance in there
  12. Interesting, i'll check out the relay/no relay thing when its going again. I managed to push the suspect sensor in about 3mm so hopefully thats all it is. I cant test it yet because i've got the track-rod in bits and the rear anti-roll bar off Of course, i wasnt thinking of the export market Dave
  13. Ok, while i'm waiting for some lamps to come, i thought i'd search for more info. Looking at the Wabco manual for the ABS system, they show a blink-switch, landrover did not fit this. The Wabco wiring diagram shows that this switch does just two functions when switched on - 1, It disconnects the diagnostics port and 2, It shorts the same wire to ground as the paperclip method does. Now, reading the manual, it states to turn ignition on then flip the blink-switch. It does not say remove any relays etc. What difference does the relay being there make or not?????? The Wabco manual is an excellent bit of stuff to have. Dave
  14. Ok, driven and re-read the blink codes, To my amazement there was only ONE code - 6-13 which i think is left rear signal weak or missing. But is that left looking from drivers seat or front of vehicle???? It would be better if they used near-side or off-side Dave
  15. Ok, thanks, that makes sense. So a failing sensor might show a large air gap then a poor signal then no signal etc. Dave
  16. Thanks Karlo, there are a few codes missing, 2-2 for instance - pump relay fault I'm guessing that the next thing i need to do is drive it and re-test for current codes??
  17. Ok, the temporary lamp idea worked, that confirms that the system is working and that the dash bulb is either missing or broken. The codes i read were as follows, in the order of reading, 2-2 2-7 2-12 2-14 2-15 4-15 5-15 6-13 All clear. Now, where do i start??? Dave
  18. Yes i have seen that page/s before, i thinks its the one where one setion says pull the lamp relay and another does not, Do i need to pull a rely or not??? Does anyone know what the other pin in the 4 pole plug does??? Dave
  19. Sorry, its a late 1994 D1 300tdi ES manual. Not checked RAVE yet, will do tonight. Dave
  20. Is injector cleaner worth worrying about, as a part of the service or not??? Dont wanna go chucking money in the tank unless it does some good.
  21. Hi all, before anyone says it, yes i did search but i'm seeing conflicting info so i thought it safets to ask before frying my ABS ECU I have never had the ABS lamp on my dash alight so i'm guessing the bulb has been removed befor i bought the motor 3 months ago. To save ripping the dash out i am going to lash up a spare small bulb to the ABS lamp relay base at the point where the wire to the dash comes from, its a black/grey wire acording to the autodata diagram from pin 30 on the relay. The main problem is triggering the blink codes, i dont yet know if i have the 15pin obd socket or the blue 5 pin abs diag socket. Either way, i am being told to remove a relay first BUT one post says remove the SYSTEM relay, another says remove the LAMP relay??? If its the blue connector, i need the black and black/pink wires. I am hoping that the lamp will light when i connect it up or there is a bigger problem. I have checked all fuses etc first. So is there a proven CORRECT method of getting it to blink??? Just to muddy the waters more, i have this tidy page that does not mention removing ANY relay at all???? My link Any help anyone???? DAve
  22. I've also recently got a m-reg 300tdi, it had the same fault too. It turned out the turbo was buggered It drove ok and very economical but as you said, useless at hills! I only found the fault by fitting a boost gauge which showed zero boost. A 2nd hand turbo fixed the boost and gave more power but i think there is still a lingering fuel issue too, i'm leaving that for a while as i need to use the motor.
  23. I can only answer two points, the engine will hold back when its running as it consumes quite a bit of power to run it. The smell is coming from the cooling coil, it needs sterilising/cleaning and i think there is a spray that will do this, have a chat with an aircon centre as it only takes minutes.
  24. My disco 1 VIN plate has no weight details either??
