  1. The last time I went through that puddle it wasn't as deep as it looks. Only just came to the bumper. But I see what you mean about people bypassing it, makes a real mess of the area. Was contemplating going for a few lanes this week. Maybe I won't bother
Walfy, i spoke with chris moore the land warden for that area, and he is more than happy for people to use it aslong as they are responsible i.e not going bonkers in the mud  so if i use it now the only way for me is through the puddle no other way. Im about most of the week on leave so will be around that area with the dog just if you see a disco with a big union jack (yes i know its not a union jack     ) on the bonnet give us a wave :D
  2. Just make sure you get a sensible battery, or if you can fit one on the other side on the rad as all it needs it a link to the other battery. from the other thread running i think you'll be after a 072 type battery as the tray on the discovery is a bit small.
emm i can't really go down that route as where you would locate the second battery there is the home made snorkel coming up through into the front of the air box :o:rolleyes: but cheers for the info i wqas going to post on that thread but did not want to hi jack it.
  3. This has been copied and pasted form a club i help run so please ignore the way its worded its just for people information and i hope that you may help keep the plains sensible before we loose some more lanes.

Hello and thanks for looking, Today me den and dale went out to start recceing the lanes for the bomb hole challange while we were out we come across a lane that pretty much anyone that use's salsibury plain will have been though at some point.

Were to start i was gobsmacked when i came over the hill to see the sight that presented it self to me and den and dale, infact i was sat there for about 5 mins speech less (thats hard for me) What people have been doing as you will be able to see in the picture is avoiding the the main route through the puddle which is pretty deep now and making there own tracks around it, now seven weeks ago when i last went through there this was no where near as bad as the state its in now.

Also certain idiots (no one from this club i hope) have been doing all kinds of mad stunts in this place, as when we finally found a land warden we asked if this lane could be blocked of in certain parts to make sure people stick to the track, and he told us what people had been doing last weekend and how many he had booked for doing it they have taken a decision not close the track as this would force the users else where.

So what we as a club are getting it is if you intend on useing this route then please do but go through the puddle not around it!!!!! if your vehicle is not capable then don't attempt this route so once again if you are out representing www.plcuk.co.uk then please try to avoid this route if you can just to try and give it time regenerate. Also if you have any problems on the plains with other users being a naughty please try to get photos and pass them onto me or den and we will pass them onto a land warden for you it's time people learned that the plain is a not one big play ground and they treat it with respect that it deserves.

Im sorry this seems a bit of a rant but as you can tell i feel very strongly about this please look at the photo and i hope you may feel the same as i do looking at it.

Oh and on inspection of the tyre tracks in the mud and tracks around the puddle there purely civvi tyres not military tyres And if you are using a simex or copy tyre on a green lanes please think do you really need them for a greenlane, that is the main reason i got shot of mine as i have stopped play and break and concetrating on greenlanes.

  4. Hi guys im after getting a new battery for my 300tdi discovery, i do run a winch and a couple of spotlights etc etc the problem being i cant afford to splash out £199 on a optima yellow top or red top battery, so does anyone know of a cheaper but just as good battery suited to my needs :D any help appreciated.

  5. Just before my alternator died (300 disco) the rev counter started doing its own thing. Was in summer (if you can call it that!) so didnt notice any lighting issues, could also hear a bearing noise from the alternator when i stuck my head under the bonnet.
Ah that rings a bell, as there is a little noise like a bearing under the bonnet, i just presumed it was the usual suspect being the water pump :D
  6. The next time i do a run out with the other club which is in december i will pm you and show you the ropes out there. As for the comments above i could not agree more. Im born and breed plains men so know it very well ;) as for the land wardens if they approach you then they are either being friendly and want a chat or your doing something wrong. And i must admit i do feel very sorry for these guy's with the abuse they recieve from people who don't have a clue about the plains!!! and believe that because a tank or similar has been there they have the right too.

Also whne you got stopped by the landwardens what action did they take against you i.e take your no plate ??

  7. Phoned a company today who have worked the part number out for me and they are miliatry spec jobbies for a defender tdi.

So thanks for the help guy's :D:D the part numbers are:

FTC 4997 = the right hand side shaft

FTC 4996 = the left hand side shaft :o

  8. Same as Ralph says... it;s not in my microcat, or in any of my old civvy & military parts books.

doesn't even come up with anything on google (most numbers do)

emmm its a genuine landrover number and packaging, very confused  (which is not hard to do) cheers for your help so far guys :D
  9. That number isn't in my EPC,:(
Cheers Western for trying :o i have found a company that list the number so will phone them tomorrow, i bought these from sodbury last year for spares as i had just brought some half shaft breaking tyres
  10. Hi guys i have some half shafts that i bought a while back when i had my defender, the part number is FTC4997 can anyone help me with that part number to find out exactly what model and type they are as people are telling me all sorts i.e "there heavy duty ones them blah blah" all i know is there 23 spline front axle and very shiney :D:lol: thanks in advance
