'and brake, stupid!
Doh! Well done

Arm brake s-----
Hmm I'm stuck

Ancient Braking System? a reasonable reference to the transmission brake

Cheers Ralph, I'd not seen a TD5 warning panel. I'll be tempting myself into a conversion at this rate!
-
it has a damper circuit to prevent the fuel gauge wandering
controls the low fuel warning light [mine doesn't, cos it's busted]
So is the low fuel light on the speedo? or just gets switched through the speedo?
-
You got me thinking Mo. I could use it to indicate when my electric fans are switched off, that's to say when the thermo switch has been overriden.
So out of curiosity then as I have only looked at the normal speedo functions what else does this gauge do?
-
Probably an honest error seeing as they've got another listing for an actual puma dash:
I reckon they just haven't updated the text when copying from another listing, but as I get to pick up in person at least I can make sure it's the right thing. I'll give them a call before I do the 100 mile round trip
-
Well title says TD5, Picture is TD5 and description says electronic and as I have to collect in person I'll just not buy it if they are wrong.
We have now bought (hopefully) a TD5 KMH speedo, will collect later in the week and then the project can continue!!!! :D
-
So looks like it's worth a go then?
-
They are PRC7375 of LHD pumas .... are they the same? I think that part number is wrong

Lol The rocking horse has dropped it's guts!
4 kmh speedos on ebay at £50 buy it now
Collect only from Maidenhead ... bit far but doable
-
Bugger and we only need it for 30 minutes. I wonder if there will be any at one of the shows?
-
What condition is the Defender currently in? Are we talking about a concourse condition show car, an old work horse showing it's age, or somewhere in between?
-
Hmmm apparently it's not practical to sell that type of end mill as every different diameter and different number of teeth would require a different shaped cutter.... There's a discussion here Simon http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/topic,14478.0.html
Looks like you'll be playing with the tool and cutter grinder next
-
Looks like it Unless he ground his own.
-
I didn't think a KMH speedo would be worth much in the UK but it's already hit £51

Not knowing anything about the physical working of tachos but I'm assuming they contain a chunk of electronics to do their job. Anyway some electronic circuits will behave strangely when they aren't being supplied the correct voltage, so could your tachos dance frenzy be explained by reduced voltage from the main battery due to it being drained? Just a thought, as in dancing tachos may merely be a symptom and not a cause.

Very nice Si Looks like gear cutting isn't far off now!
-
Glad the hills are sorted, did you have a chance to try top speed? Maybe the excess noise before was disguising the engine speed?
-
The Disco transfer box will up the top speed but make it worse on hills (using the same gear as the current t/box).
The fact that she is dying to 25mph on the hills sounds to me like you have engine issues, hard to tell without being there though.
Personally I would check the inlet manifold and associated turbo piping for leaks and the turbo rubber pipes for delamination internally. I have a 300 tdi in mine with a 1.44 t/box and I can't think of a hill around here that in the right gear you can't get over 30mph up it .... and Caterham has some steep hills.

I bet there were loads of times during the build when a linisher would have been very handy ;-)
With the driven wheel being at the back I would think the belt would have a tendency to drop quite safely if it simply snapped/failed at the join .... might be more entertaining in a HFH sort of way if it only ripped part way through. However all the belt failures I have seen when using linishers have been rather uneventful.... well apart from the ensuing expletive fest when your last belt breaks when in the middle of a job!
Nice build I like home built/modified tools

On a 300 tdi manifold the two outer arms aren't welded to the centre boss, they are just pushed in and sealed with exhaust paste. That may also be a way to reduce stresses. Just a thought

The engine number is on the drivers side of the engine below the front most injector on a strengthening rib, originally had a splash of white paint on it to aid reading. It is a prime area for collecting carp as it's a horizontal surface so you will need to clean it.

well done on the kmh speedo acquire
looking forward to the next installment.
Haven't won it yet! I'm hoping to win it .... fingers crossed
What engine mounts to use ?

I thought that was just a feature to let you know what hasn't fallen off yet
