  1. Well 7 months down the line... Death wobble appeared about 40mph. One of the lower outboard shock mounts had sheared! Terrafirma big bore shocks have gone to the scrap heap! Now fitted a set of Bilstean in the standard shock in the conventional manner. Now handling on rails again Oh and the MOT man was happy Ben
  2. Thank you for this... now to see if I can get the parts. Ben
  3. When rebuilding my 110 I got a new rear wiring loom with the 13 pin electrics. However... the multiplug at the rear of the vehicle loom is very corroded, any one know if you can either get a complete new socket or pins to fit? Thanks Ben
  4. One brand I haven't seen mention is Bahco... had a variety of their stuff over the years, got one of these sets http://www.screwfix.com/prods/41254/Hand-Tools/Sockets-Hex-Hex-Keys/Sockets-Hex/Bahco-Socket-Spanner-Combination-Set-94Pcs in the van for work, supplamented with a 18" breaker bar, nice stuff... Ben
  5. What batteries, what size and which split charge system did you use?
  6. As long as you've not got LED lamps, you can connect the +ve from the buzzer to the +ve of the reversing light, then the -ve from the buzzer to the +ve of the side lights, this will shut the buzzer up when the side lights are on! Ben
  7. General AT2's are pretty much unavailable. I've got a set of 265 75 16 Cooper ST's on the way from Craddocks which were a cancelled customer order. I belive they're getting a container load of tyres tomorrow (friday) so worth a call to see what they've got. Ben
  8. I've had this problem too, a helicoil does fix it. Make sure you are dead square to the face when drilling and tapping. We found to get enough space to be accurate we had to drop the radiator out But otherwise a simple fix. Ben
  9. Keeping the altenator charging when winching or controlling engine speed for a PTO driven application.
  10. I bought the 110 as a Cat 'C' write off, The chassis is new genuine parts heavy duty from Duckworths, the arms are correct, the axle is from a Disco 1.
  11. The basis of the problem as I see it is the big bore shocks are engineered to 'just' fit and if there is any discrepency then they will foul. I'll take some pics as I put the bits together.
  12. As far as I can see the problem is with the chassis not the shocks, either the spring perches are too far back of the radius arm mounts too far forward. At the end of the day we have come up with a solution, just need to sort it...
  13. So... fitted the Bearmach twin turrets and we're nearly there. The bottom brackets are too close to the spring by 5mm so going to get the brackets modified with the aid of an angle grinder and welder. The seats to go in, new boots and off for an MOT
  14. I think this really depends on your local DVLA office, with rebuilding a Cat 'C' 110 on a new chassis from a dealer they have supplied a new VIN number...
  15. I mean at the top of the spring. I've ordered a set of Bearmach twin shock mounts and I'm going to try mounting the outboard of the spring. I've not ordered Terrafirma ones as the shocks don't fit them. A frienf who has the bog Koni's has his external on Bearmach turrets, I'll report later next week when I've had a chance to try them. A lot of this may be down to Landrover exact engineering and where the axle sits in relation to the springs! B
  16. when you compress the front spring, does the leading edge of the shock catch on the spring perch? Ben
  17. Hopefully this may clarify the position for some folk; http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/BuyingAndSellingAVehicle/RegisteringAVehicle/DG_10014246 In order to retain the original registration mark: •cars and car-derived vans must use: The original unmodified chassis or unaltered bodyshell (i.e. body and chassis as one unit - monocoque); or a new chassis or monocoque bodyshell of the same specification as the original supported by evidence from the dealer or manufacturer (e.g. receipt). And two other major components from the original vehicle - ie suspension (front & back); steering assembly; axles (both); transmission or engine. I'll try and answer any more questions if I can, I've probably asked most of them of VOSA / DVLA during my rebuild! Ben
  18. Had my fill of play days pretty much... it's to replace my aging 300tdi rally recovery unit. I'll have a look at location cones and retaining brackets as well. Thanks Ben
  19. Has anyone else tried the terrafirma big bore shock absorbers? I've tried fitting them to the from of my 2001 TD5 110CSW and they are fouling on the spring perch. The turrets are Terrafirma standard height as well. Thanks all for any help / advice. Am looking to fit them outboard of the turret now on a twin shock mount. Anyone any thoughts about doing that? Ben
  20. I'll try and keep this brief I bought a 51 plate cat 'C' write off with a knackered chassis. After running round in circles between the DVLA and VOSA this was my final experience. If you use a genuine parts or OEM chassis then you can avoid a Q plate. If you go to your local DVLA office and they will issue a new chassis number. This requires to be stamped / permanently marked in the Offside front of the chassis in a visible manner without dismantling. You then require to have the vehicle inspected at the DVLA office to verify the chassis number is correct and they will then issue an ammended V5. The DVLA are not interested in the stamped plate on the brake cylinder or the one in the windscreen. I don't know about Richards, but Marslands chassis are made by GKN (who manufacture the chassis for LR in the first place) and they will issue a letter of authenticity for the chassis to OEM specification. However I did not go down this route, but purchased a chassis from Duckworths in Lincoln.
