  1. It's my everyday car. Almost no off road at all. Unfourtunately. Mostly urban driving. It's an OME part I guess since it's from Land Rover. Should be GKN then, right? I changed the bad ones 2 month ago. Thay are all allright. I don't need any top quality for off road purpose, I just don't want to put myself or fellow motorists at risk because I use poor quality parts.
  2. When I made my last post I was still under the impression that a CV-joint was about £24+VAT. I have now been advised to get a good quality one and since then discovered that there is a variety of prices on the market. Ranging from £24 to £183+VAT at Land Rover Sweden. With that in mind I'll investigate the old CV first. But how do I, with my limited experience, tell a worn CV from a good one? Also, where would you recommend me to buy a new one? (A good quality one at a reasonable price.)
  3. Thanks for the replys. I'll order a CV joint tomorrow. Anything else I need to change (should change) while I'm at it?
  4. I get a "metallic scratching" noise from front left wheel when turning hard left. My first thought was that I had a stone or something alike stuck behind the brake disc shield. At least that’s how I imagine that would sound like. That was not the case however. This is the actions I've taken to eliminate the noise: Change wheel bearings front left wheel. Refill swivel grease front left wheel. Swivel is sealed for life but I put some new grease in anyway. Renew axle oil on front axle. None of the above made any difference to the noise. It's a LHD Defender 90 1998. Anyone got any ideas on what the problem could be?
  5. I´ve had my eyes on these beuties for a while. But priced at around £110 I´ll just continue dreaming for a while more. TengTools
  6. To add more confusion, maybe. Let´s say that you somehow can get the tip of your finger between the teeth of the gears in the transfer box. Would you then prefer to have your finger between the teeth on the rear output axle, which is propelling the vehicle forward, or, would you like to have it in the front output axle where you have removed the propshaft, thus the shaft is rotating without resistance. Torque is, as I´m sure most of you know, a force x radius (distance to turning centre) so the pain in your finger will (to a point anyway ) be proportional to the torque transfered in the gear. I know what I would prefer. That said I belive Turbochargers rubber shafts is the best way presented to understand the problem.
  7. Thank you guys! I turned to the forum looking for reassurance and that is what I got. The symptom that I thought I saw was a small loss of power over the last weeks. I had a head gasket failure only 15000 kms ago so maybe I'm still a bit nervous. And as I looked in the expansiontank yesterday the coolant level was lower than I remember it and then I feared the worst. However after a run to town the level was where it used to be. I think it's ok I will just keep an extra eye on things in the near future. Once again thanks for your replies. This is a great community!
  8. I've developed a feeling that not everything is as it's supposed to be with the Landy. So this afternoon I had a look at things and discovered bubbles in the expansion tank at wide throttle openings. Could that in anyway be normal or is it a clear sign of a cracked head gasket? There's been no white or black smoke, not that I've noticed anyway. It's a 300Tdi.
  9. Problem sorted. It was the cable to A that had become detached. To clean all the connections from rust also helped.
  10. When I bought my 90 I sent a message to my girlfriend, at the time living in Serbia, that we got a Land Rover and it´s a girl!! Now we need a name for her. She thought for a while and then replied: Djurdjevka. She thought it would be too hard for me to pronounce, but no. In fact it turned out to be a great name, since it translates: Lilly of the valley - the flower. She´s green with white roof so she really looks like the flower, if you have some imagination.
  11. How true. I parked my 90 in central Gothenburg for an hour one afternoon and when I returned I found a note on the windscreen. "You have a wonderfull car, are you equally wonderfull? Love, Anna xxxxxxxx (phone number)" What other car attracts such a note?
  12. When my 300 Tdi developed a ticking noise I also started with checking valve clearence, then changed the valve caps. In my case it was a busted head gasket but it was very hard to hear from where the noise came so most people I asked for opinions suggested the valves.
  13. Did you check the tyre pressure? I was confused for a few days after I put new tyres on the front axle. I didn't check the pressure since the garage said they'll put the same pressure as before. The steering was really really light and also the rear wheels lost traction a few times in the corners. How that relates to too much pressure in the front wheels I don't know but it stopped when I let some pressure out. Hope you'll find the problem.
  14. Everytime I try to fix something that ain't broke, it soon needs proper fixing. Last winter I drained the cooling system three times. (Lying under the car jerking the bottom hose and waiting for the coolant to get all over you is my favorite pastime ) Ok, first time I changed the coolant. Second time it was the head gasket and then all the jerking destroyed the rusty radiator so then that one was leaking. Third time replacing radiator. I would change them next time you change the coolant but no sooner.
  15. I haven't had the time yet. I'll post my progress here. Thanks for the help.
