  1. thanks for your answer john. sounds good. not too concerned about stones and sticks, since i have a pretty good steering guard taht would keep them away.

since you are also running edis, what did you do with the distributor?

Its still there as you need to retain the gear at the bottom to drive the oil pump. Its just got an old dizzy cap siliconed onto it to keep the cr@p out, and the old cap and leads are in the truck as a "get me home" in case the whole system goes tits up!

  2. somebody (HFH./FF?) was asking about sensors and fitting inside the dizzy - maybe it is time for an update?

what about fiting senser inside the timing cover to use the existing teeth on the crack pulley (although I aqm not sure how you get the TDC) Although nice and oily, it should never get clogged with mud, horse shooes, little boy scouts or stones.

Its not possible with Edis, but is possible with Megasquirt. Means you have to lock the advance within the dizzy.

  3. Well I'm running Edis on mine with the crank sensor on the bottom pulley. Only tried it out first on Sunday but so far so good, and it doesnt seem to mind water (throught the lake at slab with water up over the bonnet). I even managed to stall it in the lake, and it fired right up again straight away.....

It doesnt care about water or gloopy mud, but apparently they dont like sticks and stones getting jammed in there etc. All the ford stuff is very well sealed anyway and requires no further sealing.

  4. You can get bottles of oxygen from Hunter tools in Godalming, on a system where you buy the bottle from them and you then own it. Otherwise the bottles are pretty much worthless as you cant get them filled without a BOC account and you then have to pay rental on them.

Home insurance people are usually ok with oxygen, but they really dont like acetylene at all.

So assuming the bottles are no use at all, frankly I'd have said £100 was expensive, considering you can get a brand new complete set up from machine mart for £200.

What time are you plannning on leaving are you buying or selling.

I will be heading up with the small trailer as I think I can get all the bits in but the 90 roof will look well funny on a 1m x 2m trailer.

give me a ring if you are selling we can go in as a group.

You'll need a bigger trailer than that to gets Rob's 109 on when it breaks down again!

  6. Yes - paddocks do the skins £55 + vat each.

Why would the recessed bit be a problem? It comes already pressed into the panels.

Its do-able with a hammer and dolly, but is alot easier with a proper door skinning tool, available from Frosts etc.

Alternately I'm sure Ripley is more than capable of doing it for you!

  7. I've used both and havn't really noticed much difference. More important is what sort of condition the stub axles are in, as if they're grooved, then neither type will seal effectively!

  8. went to have mine chipped at Brookies and they said they couldnt do it cause it was a 2000 model???

I know a bloke that can chip em, basically to your spec........you tell him what you want he does it. If you dont like, it take it back and he'll change it till your happy.

  9. Are those pro-comp shocks? If so then they're upside down and wont work properly!

The 20mm lost ground clearance is one reason I discounted this conversion. You also need to re-position the shocks as if they're mounted the right way up IIRC they then foul the steering rod.

  10. 3/8 UNC bolt???????

I've NEVER had to use a bolt to remove the drums! You're supposed to back the shoes off before you try to remove them!!

Once they're backed off undo the screw and simply pull off by hand.........

Paddocks shoes are plop but they're reasonably priced. I used to go through a set in about 250 miles.....

  11. My experiencees of AF are mixed. Yes the policies seem resaonable, but they never seem to be so reasonable for renewals in my experience.

They also seem to take forever to send out policy documents. I've waited 4 or 5 months inthe past! Have to admit I've not used them for a few years so they may be better now........however whenever my insurance is up I try and call them for a quote and give up after 20 odd minutes of cr@p hold music.........
