And for goodness sakes remember the following!
GB sticker unless you have the little emblem on the number plate.
Headlight beam reflector thinggys.
Hi-viz vest for "ALL" vehicle occupants.
First aid kit.
Spare bulb and fuse kit.
Breathalizers(rules say minimum one but it was interpreted by froggy gaurde at 3 in the morning thats one per person).
I preffered all back roads, not being tight, just have time to kill and more scenic, plus french diversity in agriculture fascinates me as does there architecture!!!

now we're talking, wonder what I might be able to squeeze under the bonnet of the Disco??@ Nigelw: There are practicaly no ristrictions :-)
Petrol power lowers my road tax!!
-
Lucky that I am going for a petrol then, no injection pumps to go wrong
What year is your series? And what are your restrictions on an engine swap if it is tax free(as your handle implies a 11a circa late 60s).

That is special in all kinds of ways

There are 2 options with this: you either screw them in the bead of the tyre or, you screw them in just behind the bead to stop the bead popping of the rim. This used to be done with race cars and the carting crowd still do it. Usually tapped holes in the alloy wheel for bolts with a sealing washer. The last option obviously does not stop the tyre rotating on the rim, but it means you don't damage the tyre. sealing does look like challenge with both methods!
As an aside, has anyone tried glueing the tyres to the rim? This seems to get used in the States and Russia with reasonable results.
Daan
When I eventually get my Disco steels off to be banded I will be trying the gluing with Tec7(same as Sikaflex in UK).

Sorry I missed this earlier, but this is also an option for your pulley http://www.paddockspares.com/err3093-pulley.html?gclid=Cj0KEQiA1NWnBRDchObfnYrbo78BEiQA-2jqBWF3QOjvw1_VBXm5sCg2Rfdrg8yXlBFeUGa9RVMDliAaAhAc8P8HAQ it is a 3 groove pulley and actually cheaper than the twin groove counter part!

Cobra remote central locking kit interfaced with the alarm/immobilise kit. The amount of work involved depends on what u already have.
well, 1992 D1 200Tdi has 1 key and 3 lock barrels :?
My Disco has nothing and I'm rapidly gettin fizzed locking an unlocking doors with the key, time to modernize it a little.
-
Been hunting the web but there seems to be an abundance of after market central locking kits, but not so much info on actually fitting them.
Anyone round here recommend a kit they bought and fitted?

Why 6mm plate?

Why 6mm plate?

I run Cooper STT on my daily driver, they do everything they are supposed to, we drove over 650 kms a couple of Saturdays back, 500 on wintery, cold, wet tarmac and 150 off road driving a mix of gravel tracks to axle deep ruts in soft sticky clay, they performed faultlessly! They are popular too with 4 of the 9 Landies that were with us lso shod with STTs in varying sizes.
Dont worry about road noise with them either, I have not yet fitted a radio in my Disco and didn't find the road noise tiring at all compared with a 200km trip in a similar Disco shod with Insa Turbo Dakar tyres, they are the copy of the Goodridge MT befor tge KM2.

When planning all this *please* think about what can happen in a crash.
If you run the unfused +ve through a metal panel at the very least have an isolator switch so its disconnected when not in use.
Must admit, that thought had never actually crossed my mind
Now off to re-arrange my winch cables and fit the bloody isolator.
-
Don't forget to add the extra 20% VAT on top of the asking price!
Not a straight panel on it and how the hell did that get a "D" cat?
Off the top of my head, bulkhead, roof, doors, rear side panels, tub, you'd have to get the chassis on a jig as that could be bent too!
Must be a bent insurance assessor too.
-
Is it possible the chassis was in fact new but not stamped?
And hence the randomness of nobody knowing WTF to do with it as it is very apparrent that VOSA nor the DVLA/C seem to know either, just look at the replies of needing to form fill after a "like for like" chassis swap!

Have been in contact with dealer he told me he would get it through iva but then 3 months later nothing , I bought it a year ago Do I still have rights.
Why did he offer to do that?
Do you have it in writing?
Makes me wonder how much he knew about the vehicle in the first place?
Why have you not chased them up for the IVA? I assume that it isn't your daily driver or you'd have gone as mental as I did having to walk or push bike everywhere, and I did it for 6 months whilst getting my registration sorted!
-
Either is doable, the seal itself is a compressable one and squishes in easily, there is a second seal which is infact the seals retainer washer and dust seal, the softer seal works under pressure from the hydraulics and is retained by the washer/dust seal.
I assume it is the retainer dust seal you are referring to with the fitting? They do need a firm persuasion but slot in pst the circlip slot without drama normally.
-
How on earth is that possible in Germany?
I mean with the TÜV an all????
-
Hi Nigelw do you happen to know the part no. for this sleeve? Many thanks Tom
Hi Tom, you actually need the 31.75mm sleeve, this gives a better interference fit, combined with lockseal on the shaft to seal it under pressure, done 3 now and no leaks yet

This my "how I did this" guide.

Looks to be about the same piece of equipment, just look at the 24 month guarantee on it too!!In the absence of a reply from Winch-It, any experience of Winchmax?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WINCH-12V-ATV-BOAT-TRAILER-3000-lb-WINCHMAX-BRAND-/130930936418
Seems to be exactly the same thing with a different paint job, so presumably like the Chinese generators they all come from the same place!
worth a punt surely?
-
Pressumably you're fitting with steering shaft still in the box?
I used a 32mm speedy sleeve to repair a steering box, so an educated guess would be 35mm internal bore not more than 2/3mm wall thickness and around 100mm long is enough.

Tick....tick....boom. Doesnt the MT82 have known probs with output shaft as well?
Edit: http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/mt82-output-shaft-kit.html
would you look at that, no need to divorce a transit sourced gearbox if you fit that in the back
-
Knowing you modified your harness, have you secured all the terminals in the terminal blocks securely?
God knows I needed to fettle a couple of multi plugs after the initial rewire in my 200.
-
No, was looking for measures from crank pulley to rear output flange.
Whats so wrong with the 2.4Tdci?
Or the MT82 for that matter?
Seems the LT230 is about as acclaimed as it gets so no probs there I hope?
-
How long is the combo of 2.4Tdci with the MT82 and LT230?
Anyone wanna crawl under their Defender with a tape measure
The EBay Christ I fancy that 4x4 + its cheap thread

You'd have thought for 7k they could have corrected the picture rotations and got some a little less blurry..
