I have a budget cheapie, it does everything I need, used it last to glue the wires down on the centre fascia of the Disco when I modified it for led strips to replace the carp lamp arrangement from the 80s.
Buy a good one and then go on to wonder what ever you did without it before.
-
Any Disco owners here got an X-charge fitted?
not arrived yet but wondering where it's best sited in the engine bay? On the inner wing? Custom bracket somewhere?
Any ideas?

Could be as simple as that fix.
-
Fan switch is only on the panel behind the centre fascia, held in with 2 screws.
Back in a bit with a thread where I fixed one.
-
Conversation went along the lines of "bloody tyres still not here, gonna email PayPal and cancel them" watching Fast and Loud on the Discovery channel, end of the show and I get "we're gonna pick up the Disco steels fit them out with these (shows picture of KL71) then we can sell the Cooper STT on the ally rims an get these (shows picture of new alloys).
Just like that 1800 euro disappears, heard horror stories about the KL71 tyres but I will fit KM2 BFGs as I see no point in taking a set of tyres morw aggressive than the STT and I can get away with the old story of they only had 3 honey but they had the full 5 of these an get away with it, then steels go North for some alterations, thats a surprise for my build thread only that one

Over 3 weeks of waiting and no replies to my 2 emails, no tyres yet
Currently looking for another tyre supplier and going to be filing a complaint with paypal about this little saga.
And to top it all off SWMBO was eyeing up KHUMO KL71 tyres as her new preferred tyre of choice
WTF they are more aggressive than the STT
Oh well, steel wheel collection coming up on Thursday. And she now wants to sell the STTs on the Deep Dish alloys and get some Terrafirma GRW016 alloys and run one set of wheels and tyres. Might have to let her have her way with this one as I want to spend twice the cost of the wheels and tyres on the diff upgrades by the end of the summer

My Disco was sitting around for the better part of 6months without turning a wheel and the discs stayed mint with minimal surface rust, then again, I was not cheap and bought top spec discs and pads when I refurbed the brakes, could be that cheap parts use lower grade materials that are prone to corrosion more?
-
Totally, do you realize that the Discovery 1 was an equivalent value 25yrs ago when launched!! Admittedly, a lot of dosh for a new car that in my opinion has a lot of stiff competition in that sector for same/better quality but lower price.

Something worth doing too is to advertise in local papers and such aiming for a car auction not far from you, I saw a well advertised 130 sold at Colchester car auctions for well above market price playing that game, your add need be only specs and a link to a webby with comprehensive build list and photos, and tagged "being sold at XYZ auctions on".
What you got to loose

Cheers Jackmac, didn't see that thread
Will tap out to M10 as metric threads are easier to get in Europe if I need replacements
-
Was under himself briefly tonight looking at the plan for the rear axle diff guard/UJ guards skid plate idea and did some card board templates, but what are the bolts size and thread? Looked about M10 but none of my taps fit to re-cut the thread, ideas? Would it be the same as the steering damper mounting bolts on the front diff?

There's a pimp in Hammersmith or Dagenham that is probably looking all over ASDA's carpark for his motor.

Which bit of walk away don't you understand. Sorry but everyone is telling you to walk away so do it. Or buy it but don't complain when it gets taken away/costs you a fortune.
Mike
This sums it for me really

My mate has a fancy coffee machine that make cappuccino's and a dish washer, his wife even bought him a plasma tv/DVD player and surround sound system, lucky bar steward
mind you the most he ever does in there is procrastinate about what he is going to buy as a project to work on, anything serious needing doing and he came straight over to mine
-
You know, there is actually the "OTHER" option?
Buy it and take it straight for an SVA/IVA and to hell and high water with the original documents, it looks to be in order and potentially it might be just what you are after, look at the equipment list, roll cage(not cheap), winch(not cheap) wheels and tyres(not cheap), if you buy a std 90 then kit it out it might cost you a heck of a lot more!!! Obviously, this depends on whether you actually want a challenge truck over a more than capable shopping trolley
Having thought about it a little this morning I personally would go down the IVA/SVA route and buy it if it were me in hind sight, and seeing the pics makes that idea very appealing now!
-
I keep thinking that the dead bolt idea should be remote activated and using central locking actuators could be cost effective?
Or how about pop up garages? they have to take the whole garage to take the truck?
-
No, just no!!!
That is a pretty asking price for sure but the only other sure thing is that you will get a ton of grief with it in the event of DVLA/VOSA, oh and it is at that golden 40 now so must be attractive as a "free tax" car, just wait for the day when that comes in and it gets a points analysis to verify it's status, big can of worms to be left well and truly alone if you want an easy life.

Anyone know the spline count and shaft diam for a 200Tdi Disco?
Looking to reduce the size of that truckers steering wheel.

I'd forgotten about this thread !
Is it all quiet on the X-Development front ? I had hoped that once the sales but moved to foundry we would have seen a host of new inventions !
I didn't forget about it, I'm just too thick to come up with useable and suitable ideas

Hi Richard, I think the above answers your question. The limit applies to the assistance and the recovery to a local garage, That is 300 for assistance and 300 for towing, I don`t think you could exceed that by much unless you were 8000ft up a mountain track and 15km from tarmac and a long way from any town.
If your vehicle is not repairable within 3 days then the insurance kicks in to get you home.
They will fly you home and you will then wait for your truck to be delivered .
You also get an ADAC sticker for your screen, since fitting to my 90,it has shown a gain of around 5bhp and now returns about 40mpg. Seriously, it`s time for you to ring them.
Regards
John

I am trying to contact the owner before the guy I bought it from to see if he can tell be the exact details of the Iveco 2.8 Diesel engine fitted and if it has had a recent timing belt fitted. There are so many varieties of the engine that buying parts is very difficult and I don't want to go to the expense of having a timing belt fitted if I don't have to . The guy I bought it from doesn't know the answer to my questions so I hope the previous owner might
Looks like a keeper, get it done anyway and save yourself a worry and a hassle of trying to find them
BTW, I have had a brand new timing belt fail on me at only 4,000 miles, and then had one go for double the recommended limit without going ping, no guarantee's in any direction my friend

I can't see there being enough petrol about to get rid of diesel. You chuck a load of crude into a cracker and get of all sorts out. I guess you can cross synthesize? They loved petrol cars back in the day because there weren't large scale users of that product until then, and it's dangerous stuff.
But having said that, ships are moving away from black oil, so maybe they'll move to a refined diesel type product? That'll throw in some confusion!
It looks like USA and EU expectations will continue to rise, and adding stuff isn't going to do it. It's CAT and filter time. With re-gen batteries as well,a tractor unit that was 5 tonne will probably be 6 tonne?
In 20 years time I doubt you will be able to take diesel cars into major cities.
But that is the reality isn't it, the ever higher expectations of the powers that be, I think they are looking at things from the wrong angle, they are looking to clean up emissions, but that is only half the battle, the reduction in the need for the generation in these emissions might be a more realistic strategy?
I did read somewhere that Paris is going to ban all diesels by 2020, that's only 5yrs away
Not my best day :(

Expensive me thinks.
yes, that really is a bill for 582 euro for just 3 months driving on the roads in the Netherlands, ouch.
