  1. More or less anybody who is a serious forumeer will probably happily cough up a tenner a year and even with our current membership of a couple of hundred, from what I have heard so far that is probably more than enough to cover costs and I would rather that than see history repeat itself.

[Thinks] I wonder if mods might even get a free magazine sub as payment for services rendered. If they did i wonder what magazine I would choose [/Thinks]:lol::lol::lol:

  2. In case anybody finds it useful...

Somebody I know has just lifted up his Discovery Td5, he was getting sick of it continually bottoming out on the front (mine does the same, you only have to hit a big pothole and, as he put it this morning, "you think the axle is going to join you in the cabin") and also he had 265/75R16 tyres fitted which really needed a bit more clearance.

He eventually settled on 90 front springs which he says give it about 1.5" lift at the front over the original Discovery front springs and make it much better. Rears were just done with a spacer under the spring seat.

  3. Sensor on t/box alters throttle mapping in low range

Sensor on clutch controls anti-shunt which is the "delay"

However if you have a vehicle with the horrible "throttle delay" unplugging the clutch sensor disables the anti shunt and makes the engine do what the pedal tells it to. It also makes it far more "jerky" to drive - a matter of personal preference really. My personal preference for solving the problem is not to get a Td5  I don't know why they can't get the throttle response right as many other diesel engines use electronic throttles these days, Td4, TdV6 both drive like a "normal" engine i.e. the engine does what the pedal tells it to all the time without the electronics deciding they know best!

  4. Just for clarity these are what I am talking about

    shockbush.jpg

with the late type bushes the cups are welded onto the axle brackets and there is a very soft cone shaped bush inside, I think the "clonk" I am getting is the outer washer hitting the cup -- there is that much movement in them! but not obviously worn

    bluddy rubbish idea IMHO

before anybody mentions it yes I know I missed a bit with the pressure washer last weekend

  5. Just been looking around to see if Polybushes are available for Defender shock absorbers ... the particular type I am after is the bottom bush for the rear shockers on my 90, they are the new type big "cone shaped" bushes similar to those found on the back shockers of a late Discovery Tdi, genuine part number is RNF100190L I think.

Has anybody used Polybush shocker bushes and are they a lot harder than std? I am pretty sure my lower bushes are what is causing the annoying knock in the back end of my 90 when I hit small sharp bumps at speed, if you lie underneath grab the rear crossmember and pump the back end of the vehicle up and down the bushes have a lot of flex in them, too much it seems, but I had a look at some new bushes (was going to change them) and they don't seem to be any better - they seem to be far too soft rubber compound for a bush. I think something a lot harder would be better - the old type bottom bushes (552818 as fitted to older 90/110/Defender rear shockers) allowed no movement in the shock relative to the axle bracket at all, these things just seem a rubbish design.

Feedback please. I am getting a set of Monroe gas shocks which may well come with better bushes, but they are a couple of months away yet (drawback of living in this part of the world!) and the knocking is starting to get well over to the right hand side of my irritatometer  also if the Monroes only come with rubber bushes I will have the same problem

    Ta :)

  6. Steve

Nah we've got a Transitovery already.... a lovely gold one (the poster formerly known as RedIbex's favourite colour :P ) :D

You're right, I want whole vans not bits :)

Found a link to "LFPV" a LR/Ford operation that send stuff to places like Iraq, they might be nice n' cheap, anybody got any other suggestions?

  7. Does anybody know if there is a Ford "export" agency that do the sort of thing for Fords that the likes of Conrico do for Land Rover i.e. sell them to parts of the world where there is no dealership network and preferably at a knock down price?

I have been asked at work to get some quotes for some Ford Transits for the company fleet but I can't immediately locate any such organisation from Googling, just wondered if anybody knows of one?

    TIA

  8. Sorry, didn't get into the heater, though I suspect you will have to take the dash out to get to it, though I might be wrong.

Taking the dash out is not as bad as you'd think, took me about 4.5 hours I seem to remember so a day ought to be more than enough.

It should say in a WSM what is involved but I don't have a D1 WSM to hand right now. I'll have a look later
