  1. Unfortunately it was the short one I snapped or I would have gone down this route. I'm a bit annoyed with myself that I kept believing the local firm when they were spinning me yarns about when they would get things done for so long. Hopefully Geoff Berrisford of GB Engineering is more reliable. From what I've read on the internet things seem pretty positive. Fingers crossed anyway. It would be nice to get back out to play again. Apart from a run to the MOT station it hasn't moved since July.
  2. I have just checked the front axle drawing for a coiler and the Long leg Flange Face to diff centre is 737.5mm and Short Leg flange face to diff centre is 350.25mm.
  3. Do a bit of maths. The Stage One shafts are 400 and 723. The Coiler are 450 and, well I forget but it's on the Ashcroft site. You know the difference in casing lengths and the thickness of you spacers. Add both shaft lengths for the same type, and subtract the casing length and you will get the amount sticking out the ends of each type. The difference is then how much into the hub you are. Don't forget to allow for your spacers. You then need the Coiler "stick out" + spacer thickness + (Series shaft - Series "Stick out"). This means you don't need to worry about the diff offset differences. A picture would probably help here.... Edit, There should be a diff in the middle too but that will be a constant.
  4. They where £160+Vat each in EN24T from Rakeway. They took several months to arrive and Unfortunately I broke one with a set of 235/85R16 Special Tracks, I do have an Ashcroft Locker in there as well though. Oh and a set of Ashcroft Series Shafts now in the ARB at the back. Neil at Rakeway did offer to make me a set of 300M shafts for £240+VAT each, I declined. I have just ordered a set of 300M shafts from G-B Engineering in Nantwich at £160+VAT each with a quoted 2-3 week lead time. More details in the other thread. I took it for an MOT as a 3x4 last week, sailed through.
  5. I went back to the firm and got all my Stage One, broken Rakeway Shaft, CVs and DIff parts back. I have now ordered a set of 300M (S155) shafts from http://www.berrisford.co.uk/index.php?cPath=46&osCsid=mis0ia5jdrced1vq8id33931p5 At £160+VAT+ Delivery each. If you order them now he will have everything needed to make up 24/23 shafts bar the lengths for yours. I'm having my ends made up with the oil seal land as per coiler not Stage-One as that's how it is set-up now and I won't need to change it over. It is just the pressed diaphragm that holds the oil seal flipped over. Rob.
  6. I've just got home with a load of axle parts. Some may even be useful. Non are the shafts though.
  7. I've just got home with a load of axle parts. Some may even be useful. Non are the shafts though.
  8. The stage one shaft is 400mm. The spline can be cut into the left over meat behind the skinny spine.
  9. That isn't too bad. Long spline cut down would be fairly easy to do.
  10. I'm thinking I may do some cut and shut shafts to get me going whilst waiting for the proper shafts. They can be emergency spares later. They will be more than fine for road and mud use. It's the crawling that did for them.
  11. If you want to send me the specs for the shafts you are after I can ask this form to quote. They will be setting up to cut the 24 spline ends and buying the stock material. I would imagine they could do a batch of similar shafts through at a better price than singles. All in the heat treat together etc.
  12. Why do you need custom rears? No idea on time scales for this. Small job and busy firm.
  13. Until I broke the shaft I was very happy with the setup. Well I still am but I never thought I would snap the shaft before the CV and that with 32" tyres too. Still onward and upward. As soon as I get prices I'll let you know.
  14. Can't see any mention of Stage One axles on his site. Going by his stock prices and then shipping back to the UK it probably wouldn't be any cheaper than getting from a UK source. I'll keep it in mind though.
  15. http://www.heystee-automotive.com/onlineshop/catalog/index.php?cPath=41_50Wow! Now that is expensive.
  16. I had a ten spline TrueTrac in mine when I was running a Series box. I swapped to a 24 spline one when I fitted the LT77 and the stage one axle. Trouble was the torque steer was unmanageable without power steering now that it was permanent 4x4. That's why I put the Ashcroft in. It's very good.
  17. True. Just put a 24 spline diff in. Mine is happy with 4.7:1 24 spline airlockers. I thik the biggest problem is the shaft length being only 400mm.
  18. Here is a video of me drivng the waterfall at Seven Sisters at the Scott Williams Memorial. Shame I snapped the short front Rakeway EN24 24/23 spline shaft later on. So much for them being unbrekable. See this new topic for New Shaft Manufacture. http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=84930
  19. Unfortunately I have broken the short custom made shaft in my uprated Stage One V8 front axle. that may have been down to me driving up waterfalls with the lockers in. Anyway, I have been down to see a local engineering firm today and givven them a box full of shafts and CVs to play with. They seemed more than confident of being able to make some shafts up. I won't get a quote until next week. Would anyone else be interested in getting some made at the same time? I imagine it would be better to make several whilst the tooling is set-up. These wil be direct replacement front shafts for a Stage One axle but in uprated material and also 24 spline at the diff end allowing greater choice of aftermarket diff centres. I have an Ashcroft Locker in mine. I have no connection wit the fim making these nor will I be making anything from any extra shafts made. For all I know they may come up with a silly price making this pointless anyway. Rakeway wanted £240+VAT for a replacment short shaft. As a comparison a PAIR of coiler axle front shafts from Ashcroft are £245+VAT with a warranty. Details of my axle build etc can be found in this thread:- http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=49522&hl=%20r380%20%20series%20%20robotman&page=2 My Landy in action before I broke the shaft.
  20. This interests me from a 'Mog 404 point of view even if it has to be NA for the width. I sense a sudden spike of interest in these on eBay.
  21. Don't be afraid of the axle internals. Early OneTen CV's fit straight in but the stub shaft is slightly shorter. This can easily be fixed by thining down a drive flange a couple of mm. I have done this on my Stage One axle and it is spot on. Oh and after market uprated front shafts can be got cheaper than old stock, gold dust originals.
  22. I quite fancy an 8 speed auto from a late model L322.
