  1. Hi Steve I have seen some Donalson ones on fleabay but they were 14" tall & fit on 6" pipe. Gaza
  2. plastic or stainless definitely not mild. Never been a fan of K&N, Gaza
  3. I have just made a 4" stainless exhaust with bends bought from pipe centre http://www.pipecenter.co.uk/pipe/index.html I have also just bought some 3" 316 stainless 90' bends cost was £9 something plus vat each which I think is quite good ( 90' bends can be cut in 1/2 and this gives 2 cheap 45' bends) they also do 6m lenghts of straight pipe. When I first went I blagged a 20% discount and still get it. I tacked everything in stainless and my brother in law tig'd it for me. I personally wouldn't mess with mild when stainless is so cheap (relatively) . You can buy an exhaust pipe expander off fleabay that will expand 3" pipe so that 3" pipe will fit inside it. They also do stainless adapters, not sure of all the sizes but I think the biggest is 3"-4". Gaza
  4. This is all very true but £50 buys very little food in Iceland. When we disembarked virtually everyone who was in a vehicle on there own was stopped. The other people we were with binned there meat & dairy in the Shetlands but weren't stopped, we took a risk luckily it paid off. Gaza
  5. Excellent, glad to hear it makes a noticeable difference. Those trim packers look just the job. Bogmonster can you update this thread when you get a reply? As I am taking the springs off soon to put a lift in it would be nice to do this at the same time. Thanks Everyone. Gaza
  6. Havn't seen this one listed, seems well made & well thought out & looks good. http://www.tawayama.com/gear/trailer/chuckwagon.html Gaza
  7. Gav the remote box isn't mine its from the same vehicle the pic of the rear sal disc conversion in the US. He hangs out on pirate. I asked about it but he had the work done & didn't know much about it. I assume he used a ZF input shaft & grafted a prop flange to it. My Q to him was did he have to use a bearing to support it, he didn't know. Bill seems to think it doesn't which would be good. Si, still gathering info at the moment but looking at putting a non rover diesel & stout g/box in a 110 and it would be alot easier with a remote LT230 so at the moment just seeing whats possible. Gaza
  8. I went 2 years ago, ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. Sailed Aberdeen to lerwick spent 12 hours there then picked up another ferry that took us via the Faroes (you can stop off here and pick the next ferry up if you have time, we didn't) then onto Iceland. Takes 1/2 week to get there and 1/2 week to get back. We wild camped most of the time in some fantastic locations. Heres a pic to wet your appetite. As mentioned above Iceland is VERY expensive, my camper was absolutely stuffed with grub and we hardly bought anything during our 2 week stay apart from diesel. Gaza
  9. Trying to make my Rover camper quiter and was thinking about noise transmitted through the springs. I have seen some spring isolators for a Disco, they go inbetween the top of the spring and the spring seat and isolate the road noise from the vehicle. So do they work? has anyone taken them out of a car that had them or put them in a car that previously didn't and can give me a before and after real world comparison. Would expect to have to make some for a 110 rear so what would be the best material? Sorry about all the Q's just getting things off my chest. Gaza
  10. Looking for a snorkel top similar to the safari ones but one that will fit on 4" pipe does anyone know of one ? where can I get one? Gaza
  11. I found a pic on the net, just wondered if anyone here has done it and if so exactly how. Gaza
  12. Still unable to post pics, I click on browse & pick my attachment then UPLOAD and I just get a windmill thing spinning, do I need 10 post to upload pics? In the meantime here is a link to a thread where I have posted a pic before. http://www.4btswaps.com/forum/showthread.php?t=784 Gaza Looks like the upload prob was my browser as I normally use Mozilla. Thanks Trev.
  13. Thanks for the replies. I have a 6 wheel camper and all 6 springs are red/red driver side 110 rears which I think are 330lbs/inch, I am very happy with the ride but have replaced the motor and have sump to axle clearance issues, spacers seemed the ideal way to go as it meant I kept my known ride quality and cheap replacement springs. Going for the +2" replacement springs is in my opinion a gamble as I am worried I may get the lift but with a harsh ride. I can make the spacers myself so might do this as cost will be minimal. My chassis is a Designa so the bumpstops are series can I buy bump stop spacers?. Gaza
  14. Hi, looking for a +2" lift and was thinking about using spacers but talking to someone at billing who had done this and said vehicle wandered all over the road and I said that he possibly needed QT3 radius arms to correct the castor he said that it had them and that changing the spacers for +2" springs restored the handling. So what are your experiences good or bad. Gaza
  15. Sorry to dig up an oldish post I'm new here. Has anyone running a 2.8TGV used a gearbox other than a Landrover one? As the Landrover boxes don't seem to be upto the job. I looked into this engine for my camper and would definitely have used a different box with it. Advance Adapter in the US make an adapter for it to bolt up any box that was bolted up to a Chevy engine so boxes such as TH400 or the 4L80E or even the manual NV4500. Marks adapters in OZ makes adapters to mate the autos to a LT230 and a NV4500 can be fit if a TH400 adapter is modified. Or you could just stick a yank tcase on that was fit originally. Sorry to bring this up if similar threads have been posted before I joined. Gaza
  16. Has anyone done a remote mount LT230 or know how to do one? I assume a ZF coupler shaft would be used but would it need additional bearing support? possibly a blind bearing where the existing oil seal is? thoughts, tips ideas? I have found a pic of one on the net but no info with it. I can't upload a pic, is this because I am new? do I need to have a certain amount of posts? Thanks Gaza
  17. Fridgefreezer do you mean the LT230 1.003:1 are better made? if so can you explain. Gaza
  18. Spot on Bill. BTW the 630ft/lbs is engine torque not multiplied torque. Will have a look at the twin turbo chevy site. thanks for the replies. Gaza
  19. How much torque can a LT230 handle? I did ask this Q on pirate but didn't get any definite answers. Is the weak part the two piece cross shaft?, how much stronger is the single piece cross shaft? I know LT230's are strong but how strong? BTW the LT230 will be a 1.003:1. I have seen the post about having the shaft cross drilled but will the pto oil feed plate do just as good a job? TIA for any replies. Gaza
  20. Hi Jules, just received an email from Bob (the Yak) I think is his name here asking for permission to send you my email address. I said yes but decided to do a google and found this thread. Also looked around the site and it seems to be right up my street, so I joined. The 6x6 was built at Arrow services as it was then, the chassis side is now Designa. Not at Billing this year though so maybe business isn't so good. The 4X4 that you refer to (Trentham gardens 200?) is owned by someone called Lawrence from Birmingham the chassis and axles are normal Landrover the cab bodywork has been widened and wheels with a wide offset to fill the gap, his body is a pukka body made by one of the makers of military ambulances which one I can't remember but they are in Brum. Mine is a normal camper body just beefed up using thicker materials glueing & screwing and externally ply all exterior surfaces. It was built to be a camper first & formost with some offroad ability. If (when) I want to travel around the world I would put a roof tent on a 110. If I wanted to go round the world in a camper I would probably go for a Unimog. I have always been happy with my camper, I must be I've had it for 8 years. I wouldn't do it again or recommend doing it to anyone else, too much trouble time & expense. I havn't towed much with it just a rapier trailer probably not even a ton with what I had in it but didn't know it was there and towed a 90 out of a snow drift in Iceland. Talking about Iceland I hope the person who saw me on the docks enjoyed it as much as we did and to come over and have a chat if he sees us again. The Ibex camper is owned by a mate of mine who we went to Iceland with (I also have a SWB Ibex) Gaza
