Garry, impellers dont necessarily need to face the way they rotate. If it is rotating the direction the teeth are facing it would pull liquid towards the center away from the output.

Fuel pumped could be knackered, are you getting pressure at the rail ?
-
You have an EDC equipped D1 which we didnt get in Aus, i still have a semi issue with mine in that the immobilizer is still preventing normal power to the inj pump so i have ben using a work around for the last 3 years, i might have to bite the bullet and buy a new alarm- My D1 is 01/98 build.
-
I've always found this strange as my Disco is a 300Tdi -- build date July 1998 and never had any engine electronics. I can only assume that the update to EDC was for builds to be sold in the UK.
Yep, OZ never got EDC TDI's, only EURO and Japan i believe.

I run 265/75's on 16x8 0 offset rims with a 3" lift and flexi flares, i find the auto on my tdi takes up any problems with lack of power on take off.
Even towing my camper trailer with family on board it was happy doing 110kph, but i will be swapping to a 1.4 TC when funds allow as i plan on more towing and dont want to stress the driveline too much and a VNT will provide a welcome boost.

Unable to help you there. In Australia the Toyota Series 80 Landcruiser was generally MY1999 - MY2003. The models sold here were /are easily recognisable by their dual twin rectangular headlights, sliding rear side windows, coil spring suspension and the engine and transmission as I described above.
In Oz an automatic wasn't available, initially 4 speed and later 5 speed manual only (with high/low transfer gearbox), but they were full time 4wd as against the same MY Toyota 2 door Troop Carrier that retained the manual locking front wheel hubs and had leaf sprung rear suspension but the "Troopy" had a twin fuel tank option that gave it 180 litres total that wasn't available in the Landcruiser (75 litres) due to the latter having rear doors.
No the LC80 was 1990- 1997, ugly oversized boxes of poo they are. I have never liked any of the jap w4d's, they just so generic and really dont stand out from each other.

Your rocker cover breather could be blocked and pressure is forcing oil out.

I had a similar problem on my Disco years ago, it turned out to be the hazard warning switch.
You know that does sound promising, we cut the wires and switched them around and the light for the indicators does when wire to the trailer light so that would suggest that the dash is working.
-
We are trying to find another binnacle but early D1's are a bit thin at the moment .
Appreciate any help we can get.
-
My mate has a 91 3dr disco that has a problem with the dashboard indicator light, orignally thought it was due to wiring or bulbs in the arb bar but have now narrowed it down to somewhere between the dash binnacle and relay (we think ).
All indicators work but the dash telltale light doesnt, trailer telltale flashes once like it should when no trailer attached. Tried to run a wire from flasher to dash but the only thing we can get to work is telltale light on when flashing but then stays on with indicators off and key out of ignition.
Really racking our brains here as its the last issue to fix before an RWC (Aussie MOT ).

The change over cost will most likely be more than converting your vehicle, if the 110 is tdi then its a fairly easy swap using disco parts.
I remember my old Fiat Strada was a Y reg 1983 so that makes H a 1990 model ?

I bridged the wires but not sure if it was the correct side or not, grey plug has 14 pins and green has 12.
-
I was asking Hangover...
Yes just one, i have ran a switch direct from battery to solenoid to bypass the immobilizer but i would like to fix it and keep the alarm.
-
Bridged 10 & 11 but no change, now it is 10 & 11 on the grey plug and not the greem one ?
-
Ok, culprit is located and on the desk ready for the bypass but i dont see any numbering so how does one locate 10 & 11 to bridge ?
As an fyi the other black box mentioned above is the window lift ECU so i removed it and fixed the 1 dry joint that prevented the rear windows from operating untill the ecu warmed up and made contact.
-
No, the unit you should be looking for is only accessable if you remove the glove box (four 8mm head screws retaining the two hinges) you will then see a small plate holding several relays and the immobiliser unit, this is hinged and held up with a 12mm head nut, when this plate drops down you will see the unit. There is a "cardboard" cover concealing this in the passenger footwell, this is retained by several plastic studs, a forked tool is needed to pop them out and at the very back, under the fan a larger plastic screw, once this and the glove box are removed all will be revealed.
Is it on the same plate that holds the alarm module ?, i can see another black box but it has 2 multi plugs where as all the spiders i have seen have only one. I'll pull the glove box out and go from there.
-
Well no spider hiding in the kick panel, is it poosible that they wer intergrated into the alarm unit in later models ?
-
Where are your bush mechanic skills Iain .
-
If the difflock actuator is stuck you may need to reverse then go forward to engage/ dis-engaged the lock. Generally i can slot it in while slowly rolling in neutral , the engagement solenoid will only be for the dash light so you want to make sure it is locking and unlocking properly.
-
Thanks for the offer Boydie, i should add that i have been using a bypass switch direct from battery to solenoid for the last 2 years and just getting around to repairing those dry solder joints that causes this issue.
I have told by another aussie that in his 99 plated D1 the spider is behind the passenger kick panel so i'll check that out before going further.
-
Wouldnt it be easy enough to just fabricate one ? Otherwise there are some D1's being wrecked on AULRO with one being a tdi manual.
-
i had a 300 tdi auto
i was breaking and the alarm immobiliser was in the
pasengers side footwell beside relays ect
i also have the green alarm immobi box
and pod for sale if needed
mike
Old post but having just spent the last couple of hours removing the dash and not finding the spider i'm at a loss, my disco is a Jan 98 build tdi auto and not an EDC version.
I have located the green alarm box in the passenger footwell as you pointed out and also a blaxk box above it with 2 plugs, is the spider intergrated into the alarm and this model or still a seperate unit ?

Composite gasket will take up any imperfections in the head surface so as long as they are flat i'd just refit, done 2 x 3.5's without head skimming.
One done at 150K and sold with 270K, other done at 260K and sold at 275K , pity it wasnt as easy for a 300TDI - that required a new head.

Lift wont affect the CV's, lack of lubrication is the likely cause. Check you wheel bearings while your at it,
Diff Lock, to lock or not to lock ????

I lock the cdl as soon as i leave the black top, loose gravel often quickly turns to slippery hard clay then to slushy mud.
You will blow the center diff long before any tyre wear will occur (which will only happen on bitumen) and good luck trying to engage the CDL at anything more than rolling speed without knocking a few teeth off the gears.
