  1. bolt/clamp/glue a sheet of MDF infornt and behind the hole, get it lined up right and drill through the lot with a hole saw. Almost guaranteed to give you off set holes and a sore head. But probably the way i'd end up doing the job edit just had a look at the q-max punches; thats an absolutely cracking device!
  2. where did the 12v truck tipper pack come from? Was it expensive? I'd like one for a little project i've dreamt up but all those that come up on ebay seem to either be very big or very expensive!
  3. thanks for that link NightTrain, there are some useful videos from the link, interesting too.
  4. will the difference in diameter between the burning cylinder and exhuast not have the effect of setting up a venturi thus accelerating air drawn up the chimney? Will fitting a correctly tuned venturi help efficiency? actually, i've just realised this could become a very dull topic, so i'll stop!
  5. you bothered applying the hot spanner yet? Could it just be corroded? IF i get my work done then i might lend you some proper man power on Sunday.
  6. aren't you missing the obvious here Mike? Roller it in magnolia, and if you have enough left over you could redo the living room as well Don't see whats wrong with Cat's suggestion, no right minded person would steal or drive a pink car.
  7. You hear that mike, Mark says do a good job, thinks me will be visiting nick and get them done properly. Pretty sure i can find a suitable sized die to but the inner ring in as well. Would this be the time to put in dislocation cones as well? I guess such a thing could be designed in? Now if only i could drive the landy to Nicks, then i could get it made fitted and welded up all at the same time! Got to say, even at £28 quid it seems a little expensive for what it is! It not going to be a show vehicle and will always be a workhorse, i'm not objectional to improvements so long as they dont take away from the original feel of the thing.
  8. cheers so looks like MPS 4x4 do them for £30.88 inc vat each. Got to say that seems like an aweful lot of money for not a lot of metal, hmmm part number is STC 8610 incase anyone ever comes looking for the same Back to the thoughts on making one up myself
  9. this is the problem; you can see that even with the brand new long life shock absorber the spring (rear nearside) isn't even slightly locating. I don't seem to have a better picture than that, but quite how the spring has stayed in place i don't know, its due to two factors regular hauling of a giant ifor trailer with 3 to 4 tonnes of logs on accross a half ploughed but very dry field, and a poor repair to the chassis (both before i had anything to do with it), basically the spring mount is waffer thin most of the way round. It last past an MOT in 2004, but it must have been quite bad even then! At the moment the Landy is completely original which isnt bad for a C-reg! and it hasn't had any care for many years now although it has been dry stored when not in use. I'm umming and ahhhring whether i should go an buy new spring mounts and weld them on, or fabricate something a bit tougher? I have access to plenty of metal and machinery so making them up isn't a significant problem, but then again i would like to keep it totally standard. Can anyone point me in the direction of where to find the spring seats as seperate parts, i've looked on paddocks and craddocks and LR Supermarket and while i'm sure i've seen the part when i first looked a month or so ago, i can't find it now cheers
  10. send yer pics to me and i'll build the mini a website ! i've probably got about 8 years before the mini is complete
  11. pah, he's my friend, get your own. Oh he's still immobile at the moment as well. It's pretty simple choice really, there is a reason why all MSA and FIA require cold drawn and it isn't for the cost. I figure worst case scenario is a roll over, and given the shape of the mini i would imagine it will roll quite a few times, CHS is great for structure and load bearing, but i wouldn't want to repeatedly load it too many times as it WILL burst! I've met your wife and she's worth at LEAST the extra couple of hundred! I suspect most likely scenario when a cage would be needed (assuming your not driving) is on the motorway, big truck, little car, blind spot not a good mix all in all. It's not like your even paying! CDS period
  12. my experience is that it will work on SOME motors, but typically they end up with no power and will only spin backwards slowly deffinatley snake oil.
  13. does this mean your getting the 109 back together? Must be great having all your free time.
  14. are there not enough local stockists that you can just go get them when needed? theres plenty in the pool of Live
  15. oooh, i'm the first to spam you comments box! :D

  16. I could probably do with transporting there and back if you can manage it, will happily repay with mor insults than you will possibly know what to do with! Also i will happily answer all calls from the wife and guarantee that you haven't bought anything, and provide resting shelter for all the junk you do buy Hows that sound? 20th October right?
  17. great thread this one, have taken residence in a local farm with garage and work shop, have been in need of decent bench to affix 'things' too (currently making do with all manner of randon old furniture) anyways, went for a tootle round the grounds in the 90 and came accross two big piles of 1/2 sleepers. I now know what i'll be making bench tops out of! There are also a huge number of pallets of bricks too, so i now know what to make the legs from
  18. I use a tiny little Draper one which takes normal lighter refill fluid. It's probably less than 8" long and as it spends a lot of time inside the dash of many various cars (fitting radio's/alarms/unbodging) its an absolute cracker, used to work really well untill a drunken might involving lots of fireworks and no real lighter/matches does use a lot of gas for its size! Anyways i paid just over £10 in Halfords (trade account) and its still going plenty strong. It has a cap on it which doubles as a little stand and a place to put lots of solder
  19. At least its nearly there, i remember talk of the chassis swap taking only 48 hrs Get your work done then go fit the recon turbo! Your credit card can handle the cost of the MOT.
  20. at least it's finally on the verge of getting running again! I still remember the dim and distant talk of 'it can be done in 48hrs', and now you've got me involved in these machines
