  1. Thanks Pete was about to search start the search!
  2. Hi Western, Its an early 110 1995 I can't see how it got through the last mot - the fog light is there but no switch - osmosis?
  3. Hi, Got an MOT coming up and today I did a check over my 1995 FFR 110 - all good - then I thought I would check the lights. I bought it from the guy who got it straight from MOD he had a reversing light put on the rear n/s and a fog light on the O/S. I cannot see any switch for the Foglight anywhere in the cab. Its ex MOD so nothing on the steering column as I believe there is on the civi versions. I am perplexed! Why install it and not have it working - had a new MOT on it when I got it from him as he did all the work and then decided it was a bit too 'rough' as a daily Never had to use it over the last year - anyone have any ideas - would be appreciated - not great with electrics - mech OK. Also I noticed the two big red lights either side of the tail don't do anything - the high ones are tail lights and break lights - strange as I thought they would be used! Thanks in advance. Taffia.
  4. Hi - no I don't just the gauge I'm afraid - was thinking about changing dials - just wondering if a 1/4 fluctuation was OK given change in driving and it being Sunny - finally
  5. Hi, Hope everyone enjoying the weather - I got my ex Mod 110 2.5na topless on the weekend. Checked all the fluids and went for a spin. Had to do a short motorway run(crawl) and my oil temp went up from the normal dead on half to the 3/4 mark. Water temp stayed dead on half. Just wondering if this is normal for everyone else when pushing the engine a bit - maybe a dummy Q but just checking. Thanks Taffia.
  6. Thanks - will have a play - just want to see if there was any proper way
  7. Lets face it if Satan did launch a brand of cars to torment the son of Adam, steal all his wealth and drive him to drink - my truck has horns and tail and a bottle opener on the dash - but I can't afford the beer as I have to buy a new OEM Pitch Fork!.........
  8. Hi, At last a sunny day and I thought I would for the first time take the canvas off my '95 ex-MOD 110. It does need to be renewed soon but I was wondering if there is any doc's anyone can point me to in case I have one of those 'How do I get that back on moments' Seen some Ex-moor vid's but not that clear - its the front above windscreen I need to understand as I have 2 black levers I think above my windscreen. Thanks for any pointers - and hope everyone is enjoying some sun! Taffia.
  9. Yes - got me worried now Not driving it until sorted anyway! BUT as its a 2.5 NA the bit about speed may not be so relevant!!! Surprised this is the first time I have had a prob - oh well - leant more about tyres - just need to go shopping for tyres and inner tubes on the weekend now!
  10. Thanks everyone, I do find it a little strange that this came straight out of MOD with XZL's on without tubes on these wheels and I have been driving it since January without any probs - only light road use mind while I do all the other little bits. But I realise how dangerous it could be running these without inner tubes when I start off roading proper etc etc. Hunting Tyres today and Inner Tubes with TR415 value sizes - from the links above I think. Will post a final entry once this is concluded Thanks Taffia
  11. Hi Daan From more googling I am coming to the same conclusion. truck is straight from mod so as is September 2012. Interesting that they have been running xzl without tubes on these wheels. If I get 4 new xzl tyres I need some inner tubes then. Do inner tubes have differant Vale sizes too I wonder or do you need those flange things? Boy are wheels and tyres an interesting area
  12. Hi, In the interest of finishing the story so that future 'Landy Lovers' may benefit from these bits of wisdom. Here are pics of my tyre and valve: Points from above. 1. They are not inner tubes - they are tubeless. 2. I hope (fingers crossed) that these are in fact TR415 Snap-in-Valves - 32mm length, 15.7mm rim hole - today's standard is 11.5mm which is why your local garage may not have the right valves which is where this all started in my case anyway! Question - what are these wheels for future reference its a 1995 110? (I think they are ANR1534PM - which are the 1 Ton steels found on 130's and Rapier) So armed with the above I am currently looking for new tyres! XZL or Avon RangeMaster are my top two at the moment - thinking of getting all 4 sorted at the same time (after I ebay a kidney or two) Will update once fitted and I can confirm all the above! Thanks Taffia
  13. Thanks for feedback Which inner tubes would work? Any draw backs on inner tubes? Also was looking at the wheel at 5am as you do. And it is the valve that's leaking the air I could here it coming out around the base. The spare which was flat when I got the truck does the same on inflation. It's been in a hot climate I wonder if the Valves have perished. They have been painted green The largest 'rim hole' is 16mm on the site above which I think is that he means. Going to call and ask today. And measure hole. Now need to source some tyres too as a couple of mine look like they have been attacked with scissors! Thanks again TAffia
  14. Hi - hope everyone is enjoying long weekend Woke up this morning to a flat front tyre. Pumped it up enough to get to tyre chain place. Very enthusiastic Landry guy said cant help as my 1995 ex mod 110 has old size values? He said 22 mm. Google says modern valves are 11.5 mm but I can't find 22mm is this size correct? I need a new set of Michelin zxl anyway but he said they can sort if I bring my own valves. Don't want to change the wheels tbh just for the valves. Anyone know when or what to get? They are standard army wheels ones before wolf ones. Any pointers to good suppliers or zxl tyres also appreciated. Thanks in advance
  15. Some great ideas here. Tried calling a few scrap yards - as soon as I said Defender seats you could here the ooooooooaaaaahhhhh £££££££. "Sorry we don't have any - got other parts though!" Maybe there is a shortage - but as every car has to have a set at point of manufacture one would assume there would be enough - unless someone is stock piling them in order to increase the market price! If I get these do you think there is enough space up the middle for a drinks trolley? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BA-777-Premium-economy-recaro-Airline-Aircraft-seat-/271193987600?pt=UK_CPV_Aviation_SM&hash=item3f246bda10 I need to lie down now.....
  16. Hi, Yes scrappy was next option but I was wondering if anyone has experience of what will fit in the space and then how hard it is to get it onto the frame - without my own welder! tbh - before I got the seat extensions I could still drive np - but with the extension its great! As I have a MOD 110 there is no power steering - I worry if I fit a smaller steering wheel I will need to start turning 1/4 mile before the junction not to mention the forearm work out - but I love it Will have to hit some scrap places! Taffia
  17. Hi Si, How strange I was only looking earlier at your site to see if the X-Defend was back in stock! Thanks for the Foundry4x4 link - looks good and I don't mind build it yourself but I have the MOD two square cushion seats and backs - is this is what you have done to the same type of seats - if so seems to be a bargain compared to sourcing used or new ones! Thanks Taffia
  18. Hi, I am slowly starting to sort out my 2.5D NA 110 ex mod 95 defender. Really enjoying the hands on aspect with help from this site! One of the things on my list was to upgrade the seats nothing fancy just better than plain 'squaddie' ones. What gives with the prices on seats new and used in eBay etc? Nearly as much as my truck! Is the trick to get seats from another car? I'm no welder -yet- but I do have the seat extenders on my side as I'm 6'4". Any tips would be much appreciated as always. Thanks
  19. Wish you hadn't said that - just the thought - luxury - every time I look at it now........ When I first got my 110 I thought it was a choke Next it will be sitting in the passenger seat minus the seat cushion - does that count as 'Heated Seats' (If you get both battery terminals in the right place)
  20. Perhaps there has been some research into the mindset of post production car 'modification' which shows that an owner who wishes to add/improve or indeed change production specification is more likely to be an riskier owner! Considering as I understand it at least 75% of produced Land Rovers are still on the road (A green argument there - I wonder how many of them are in their original factory state. Perhaps you need to sell it to a friend for a £1 then buy it back for 80p (as we are not a AAA country any more!) and call the insurance and say this was the original condition as bought - declaring the Snorkel and wheel arch flame decals as original at the time of purchase. I wonder if the fact you as the new owner are not going to be 'fitting' them post purchase has any impact! Just a Saturday evening thought (that hurt!)
  21. Hi Snagger - yes I had to deal with Bletchley for my MG 8 years ago even though I am on the south coast - and as far as I know Gemma ( 01908 271 771) is the one one dealing with Landy's. (Again nothing to do with them but as I am now at my desk I dug out the number) Your situation is very similar to me - except I have had no claims. I won't repeat some of the conversation I had with other insurance companies on an ex-MOD 110 Rag top "Is it armour plated?" "Does it have an MOT?" "Does it have any military insignia" "Does it have a 50mm Anti Tank or is it the Mortar Launcher version" (OK I am fibbing here - but close!) "Will you be racing hot hatches in town on Saturday Night - Yes if I get a week's head start!" "Sorry computer says NO" And that was in theory as bought with no mods - when I mentioned I was going to fit a 'Snorkel' they asked would I be driving in fins! /Rant off. Try is all you can do - I agree with Diff its like a lottery. Good luck
  22. I agree - Gemma Burke at Bletchley was the one I was referring too - only certain people at the branch seem to do the deals on Defenders - strange I know but with all the fun with an ex-MOD 110 'soft top ;)' and bench seats and I said I was going to fit a Snorkel which I am when I can find one included in the deal I was very happy. (anyone has on a 2.5NA please point me in the right direction). Hope it helps.
  23. Hi In the interest of experience and no I don't work for them I have used A-Plan brokers for years firstly with my MG as I wanted to mod it and was fed up with explaining to insurance companies what x and y was. (Recommended by MG group:) Never had a claim with them but I now have my Discovey with them too and they were much cheaper for me on that also. When I got my ex MOD 110 defender last year I shopped around then went back to A-Plan and was delighted to be put though to a young lady ( Gemma i believe at Bletchley branch) who deals a lot with farmers and actually knew what a snorkel was and knew it was not going to increase my 110s 2.5NA 0-60 from 2 to 1 hour Benches in back no prob as supplied etc etc. £225 FC. ( I am over 40 and its parked on the street in a city.) Best thing for me is they deal with any claim for you ( fingers crossed i dont need it) so no web sites and they are people to talk to not a call centre - and this lady knows her Landy's. She was setting up a new Landy dept. I believe hence her knowing a lot and seemed genuinely interested in my new toy! Few friends have had a good experience too. That's my 2p worth. Good luck
  24. Thanks again all - will order - spotted the delivery weight - had to read it again to make sure it wasn't for a 1,000!!!! Now onto the next job
  25. Thanks guys - I now have that warm fuzzy glow that I can get this sorted - or another excuse to spend more time on the truck - amazing forum as always! That link to the Russian site it interesting Do they have the part number of a Nuclear Turbo Conversion for my 2.5 NA I wonder!! Thanks again
