A fan is rarely needed, but it is folly to run without one at all except, perhaps, in Arctic conditions.  A long hill climb on a hot day, especially with any significant load, or a drive through mud or sand could cook an engine fairly swiftly if there is no fan to help.  Even sitting in very slow traffic on a hot day can raise temperatures well above where they should be without a fan.

Even then, my 200 only got hot when the rad was completely full of Welsh mud and even then, only when on the motorway.

That is always the case - early treatment is always smaller, less risky and has better outcomes than leaving it late, plus it minimises the duration of the issues of the injury.

My Nanna is a prime example of what not to do…. Leave joint issues and put it off so long it caused other problems and now she can barely walk.

I did plan on buying a scruffier tractor that I could leave up at the field … this is a bit nice to just leave parked in the middle of nowhere.

Longer term I am going to look at getting planning for a small 2 bay barn, something a bit more secure, or if it will fit in the garage at home perhaps even a field shelter to keep the mower out the weather.

Worth a look… slight grey area if you’re not ‘farming’, but you might find that planning isn’t needed for an agricultural building!

Most recovery is about standing by the drivers window explaining which way to turn the wheel

Or in the case of Mannington last year, trying to get their attention to stop just sitting on the limiter whilst going absolutely nowhere…. And windows completely covered in mud .

We don't have any info on that - depends how "blanket" this ban is and how much they distinguish between events. I suspect stuff that sticks to the main fats tracks they'd continue to allow, although they did restrict them to AT's after a nasty accident some years ago which spawned a lot of rumours at the time.

I can see how something like the comp safari would be allowed to continue even on stuff that's not just the main gravel tracks. They'd probably just have to set out the stages and have it all approved before going ahead. So much easier to police than a play day/weekend.

  6. Fridge beat me to it.... I don't think tyre restrictions are the answer sadly and I think it has to come down to something like Nonimouse's suggestion of the 3 goes type rule. Something that a larger sized Simex/Trep can crawl up could be totally shafted by a vehicle on smaller AT/Mt tyres bouncing off the limiter the whole way through. It's a similar thing to how my 90 is going to look after it's done. 37" tyres and it won't look great to the outside world if I took it laning when in reality it could easily be doing far less damage than a less capable vehicle.

I'm sure you're already aware but there are some companies through our way that are doing small scale wind turbines specifically for houses and smaller buildings that can deal with any wind conditions.. could be a cool little bolt on? Not sure where you're based but could be useful addition.

Until you get a jealous neighbour or two.... Friends of ours had a great little turbine in their field long before the solar PV boom. It ended up having to come down after court cases and lobbying from a few jealous neighbours about the 'noise' it generated. Nothing more than a slight swishing noise either right under it or ~100m away on the boundary.

In my comment about sites on the Mendips, I mentioned typical quarry sites. Is there a requirement for other types of site? For example, tomorrow night will be freezing my balls off in a large section of woodland on the Devon/Somerset border, on the edge of the Blackdown Hills. Typical of those hills, it's sand, mixed with organics, over a layer of Chert, over a layer of running green sand. There are roadways through the site, but as long as no one hits the trees, it's a general free for all. The terrain is steep and undulating - used for the odd trial and the occasional challenge event.  I'm seeing the land owner tomorrow afternoon...

What about distance? Is Cornwall to far (and too full of odd people). The old P&P site at Thunder Bay hasn't been used in years and the land owner wouldn't mind a small income.

Military sites are simply too busy most of the year, but Bovington is free on a regular basis. Although it would depend on which part.

I think Shire would be interested in anything for offroad stuff.... if its further away then it probably has to be somewhere suitable for a couple of days and some camping?

Thats interesting, i did consider partially covering the grill but decided against it

It shouldn't need that.... My 90 heater pumped out properly hot air even with -7/-8C outside - until I filled it up with water, sand and mud :P

Unfortunately and I may be speaking out of turn, attitudes like below don't help the situation, you have to go off track to try and cross

    Just my opinion

    Regards Stephen

I'd have to agree Stephen... like @elbekko says though... plenty of tracks did just appear onto the side of other tracks without any warning. Not always much of an option to retrace your steps either :(

I've been told it will still be open to trials, just not the big tyre brigade. Either way still a loss in my eyes to our hobby!

The murmurings I’d heard recently were more on tyre tread limits rather than an outright closure

  12. Gutted doesn't even begin to cover it. That's knocked the wind out of my sails :(.

I don't hold out much/any hope, but if clubs like Shire can keep asking from time to time, there's always a chance of it being reopened to select groups I'd like to think.

  13. Well I’m sure others would be pleased to see more pictures too…. It sounds fascinating!

What was the reason for two sets of props vs say a single set of 4 or more? Just more power?
