  1. I am glad I asked the question. I think I will use the gear box out method. I have a hoist and trolly jack. It did seem to be the most logical way to go. The bite on the clutch does not bite until the pedal is fully out. Does this suggest the clutch is on its way out?
  2. I think the 110 2.5na needs a clutch, I have had look at the Haynes bible book of Land Rovers and it recommends to take out the engine to do the clutch. Now far be it for me to question Haynes but I would like a second opinion is this the best/easyest (for want of better words) way to do the clutch.
  3. Having looked at it I miss read it I,ll get up to speed on computers some day (maybe)
  4. Thanks for the replies. I have taken out the 2 rear bench seats and the front middle seat but to be honest I did not want to do this. I did not try NFU but will next time, who are IME ? I am still looking to address this insurance problem so can anyone point me in the right direction. Things in general have got a lot better over here in NI a lot better is an understatement, but this insurance thing keeps coming up.
  5. The other day I rang around for insurance quotes, about 14 different brokers, agents and companies. With only Sureterm able to provide classic cover for my 1986 110csw 2.5na living in Northern Ireland I am 46 no accidents no claims. It makes me laugh when I read about people being worried about not being able to fit after market bits and bobs when we find it difficult to get insurance cover to get on the road, not to mentioin insurance people who cant provide insurance if you take your Land Rover off road even if I can provide insurance through MSA for off road use and because it has or can have 12 seats. It has to be said that all of the insurance people who I rang I got their numbers from Land Rover mags. Why is this the way it is? Where will it stop I ask you? No more mags for me. Can anyone suggest who I should be directing my ????????? at. I,ve left a blank as I do not know the right word to explain it. Its not often I am left with no words to explain something. I wonder how much it would take to set up an insurance company? Is there a blanket type cover that can be got? Suggestions please and help!
  6. On reflection I will just go for a Valeo 110 clutch complete. I like the diagram. Even a knuckle head like me can understand that
  7. Thanks for the reply. I have had mine adjusted in and out shake it all about, (joke). If I can remember it is now with the nuts out as far to the end of the rod as it can go that is to say if I moved them out any more they would fall of. I will give it another look and maybe bleed it fully adjusted up the rod. Mine slips the further it is driven. It would seem odd for yours to be cured by adjustment on the rod you may still need the clutch replaced. Is this a new to you rover? How did it start? I noticed mine while off roading a while back, but now I am mot ing it I have got the same problem only on the road. I will up date you if I find anything.
  8. I think the clutch on my 1986 110csw 2.5na is on it,s way out.I have read through this thread and would like to ask which replacement would be the best to go for. Would it be the 130 type or are they just the same as the 110. I do a bit of off roading / heavy green lanes / private sites and every day use. I just want something that will last. What sort of money would you expect to pay for a clutch kit complete. I hope to tackle the replacement myself .
  9. Hi My master and slave cylinder were both replaced maybe about 4 years ago could they have given up the ghost again. The last time it was more evident by fluid leaking at the pedal, I was advised to change both and did so. I will have another look at mine. Can you let me if you get your,s sorted it seems we have the same problem.
  10. The clutch pedal on my 110 has too much travel it does not engage until almost fully out. I have bleed it, looked for leaks none found. It does not rasp going in to gear or when changing up or down. With the handbrake on and letting the clutch out slowly she will stall. I was told this method when buying a car it can point to a faulty/slipping clutch. Should I be planning for a new clutch? Any thoughts on this matter would be most welcome.
  11. To be honest I had not seen the split type rubber ones before and if they can be glued together then I think I,ll try a repair with some silicone on mine. Its only the one side needs fixed. And at £24 plus vat there would no harm in trying it. Do you think the wife would miss a piece cut out of the settee I was just wondering had anyone found a cheaper method, thinking outside the box as they say, There has to be something that would do the job?
  12. Is there anything else that can be used apart from the bought rubber boots, that will do the swivel housing and chrome ball area.
  13. Do the winch bumpers for the front of Disco 1 s just use the 4 holes the origanal would use? Or are there any other mounting points? Has any one heard that winch bumpers are now not allowed to be fitted, I know someone who has been told this. Would there not be a cut off date say vehicles pre what ever and no more?
  14. Living in NI we run across this problem all the time. With all sorts not just seats. Try Aon, you have more or less tried any others I could suggest. It,s a pity we could not all get to gether and use companies that treat us all the same. I dont mind paying a loading if the area is deemed more likly for a vehicle to be stolen but for them not to quote at all its no fun.
  15. I agree it is a public forum. Its a good forum if your in to Land Rovers. There is alot more imformation out there and not Land Rover orientated. But by enlarge the public do not act on it, just as well too!!!!!!! I do not mind asking for advise and when it is recieved its entirely up to me if I act on it. Again I would like to thank you guys who have been their and done it and can offer some advise. This is my final post on this (no point in beating a dead horse to death).
  16. BIG THANKS to the pioneers out there. I have watched this topic with great interest as I drive a series and know they have poor brakes after off roading. Pre-empting your braking on the way home is no fun. These are mods you have made to your vehichles, and quite rightly point out YOU DO NOT ADVISE any one to do themselves. I could say I have painted my rover dimpsy brown and what I painted it with and where but that does not mean everyone should do that. You guys are just telling others what you have done. We would,nt stick our hand in the fire just because someone said to, would we???????????? Sorry for the slight rant.
  17. I made the mistake of getting the small shovel and pick but they will not go to waste. I can put them on the 110 and god help any body who tries to use them. Thats what the b n q ones in the back are for. Thanks

    LWT

Lightweight kit Anyone know where to buy the small pick / shovel and bracketry to fit on the back 1/2 door. Is there any other tools that can be added to this vehicle. Any chance of a photo.
  19. Is there a way or does it even need doing that is to clean up the pulleys on the alter/crank/water pump on a 200tdi Disco My belt has finally snapped and needs replacing after weeks of squealling.I know it should have been done before this Mark
  20. I have a blown VM 2.4 or 2.5 not sure, sump oil burnt through the turbo I think. I stopped her as soon as I could I am now thinking about fixing it. Question is should I go ahead and replace to whole engine, I have mangaged to get another VM or can I get the blown one to run less turbo and try to assess damage. It would be nice to just replace the turbo???????????????? I live in hope a wee place just outside the real world. Advice please. Mark Ps I think I will get my name changed to Mark Make Do. (Cheap skate).
  21. Ok. Can I assume the new ones need hammered over to keep them in place. I was thinking of putting a small snot of weld on also when I get that far. Thanks Mark
  22. I just wanted to know if they were any use or could a home made one be knocked up? I thought it might be useful to reach under the rover when washing. Not that I would wash it every week mind. I,ve seen some of the home made heaters/burns and liked them but you cant beat the old Super Ser when I have gas that is. Mark
  23. Yes that is the kit alright, but I have seen them much cheaper they are more than likely pattern parts but should do alright. I am still interested in finding out how the old ones come out and the new ones go in. I have managed to get a 2 backplates 1x 109 1x 110 slight difference in them though to put on if I cant sort out the adjuster kit. The 110 is up for MOT 11/3 so I still have some time but do not want to leave it too late. Mark
