    Rear Washer

Well its not an MOT failure so thats a plus And the advisory note was only for the ARB links so £30 to spend before the next MOT. I did get it working, dont know what I did but the pump was spinning and shifting the water. However the 'spray' does leave something to be desired, sort of a pathetic dribble unless I have a mate standing at the back with a finger over one of the holes to boost the pressure.

    Rear Washer

Cheers. I do have the headlamp washers but never really noticed them do an awful lot.
  3. Help My rear washer has packed up so I turned to the Haynes Bumper Book of Fairy Tales seeking enlightenment. I have an old capri manual somewhere that would have been more use. I take it I'm correct in thinking that the reservoir at the front provides water to front and rear? Front works fine but hit the button for the rear and nothing, no buzzing noise so I'm guessing its the pump, assuming that the rear washer is on a separate pump, where abouts is it? After that I'm thinking the switch itself is a possibility but I'm open to ideas Finally can someone confirm my suspicion that it is an MOT failure. Thanks.
  4. My left hand indicator has become a little excitable lately, no steady tick tock that you normally get just a rapid tickticktick. My first thought was one of the bulbs has blown and needs replacing, naturally they're all working (just quite quickly). I cleaned up my earth connections when I had the last problem so unless they've hidden another earth has anyone any suggestions?
  5. If its off I'm wondering if its in a warm place? I had a similar problem with a viscous fan years ago, couldnt shift the nut so by the time I'd removed the bulk of it bought the new bits and went back to the nut to to start destroying it had expanded in the warm house enough to come off with no sodding effort at all.
  6. Smartwater has a pretty good deterent effect, oh and signs saying you've got smartwater too. Who's to know if its just the marking system or the fancy spray? And unlike CS its legal, what a country even the cops cant carry that anymore because it may be carcinogenic so they have PAVA which main effect is to not taste very nice. Or knock up a home made claymore, everything you need is in Tesco
  7. Yes she goes, though I'm hoping that it'll be a little easier when I replace the last one. Which will have to wait til for the better weather when I wont mind stripping belts off the A/C.
  8. New glow plugs see to be working though I only managed to swap 3 out of 4 becasue someone put a great big AC compressor right in the way of the 4th one and I couldnt be bothered to start moving belts. Thanks for the advice everyone.
  9. In answer to the mods question earlier. When the police and VOSA carry out crack downs, it is specialist officers who do the inspections and its quiet amusing watching the boy racers pulling off their mods in some car park, not to mention the ones who have their cars condemed at the roadside. Oh and you know what REME stands for - Royal Engineers Minus Education
  10. Just to answer a few earlier questions, the new battery made no difference to getting it to start, I did think about fuel as I mix it with SVO but at the time I was running on only diesel. New glow plugs have been bought and will hopefully go on today.
  11. 97 manual. I was thinking glow plugs myself, just wondered if anyone else had the same thought before I go and buy more expensive bits
  12. I've been having problems with getting the bus to start since the cold snap. Engine turns over but wont catch. My first thought was battery and with a little power station attached she coughed into life and was fine for the rest of the day. New battery installed and again needed assistance to get going but after she'd had a run she was turning over fine for about the next week. Problem has returned and again I need to attach the little battery booster to get it started first thing but after that seems to run fine. Anyone any ideas?
  13. I've cleaned up the fairly coroded terminals on the alternator and given it a quick squirt of oil and the rev counter looks like its stopped dancing. Thanks for the advice though, looks like theres a few more miles left in the alternator yet
  14. And it would have helped if I hadnt been having a thick attack at the time.
  15. And dont forget that raceface has a 2" lifting kit on his bus when your wondering why the defender pipe doesnt just slip into place as described More than happy with mine now I've swapped.
  16. Mines the same age and spec and I've left the OH in the bus when I've nipped into a shop with the keys in the ignition and never had that problem, time to try a new battery I think
  17. Its a tdi and you can bet that it wont be the simple cable needs a tweek. Just need a break in the rain and I can get out and see whats loose...or isnt Thanks
  18. I've noticed my 97 disco has developed a dreaded intermitant fault. The rev counter starts flopping around all over the place when I've my foot on the accelerator and drops to zero when its off. Obviously a fault, unless its doing its bit for global warming and shuts down when I take my foot off. Is there going to be a bit expensive problem heading my way or am I looking at a nice simple 'clean contact 'x' up and it'll be fine'?
  19. Not my bus but a work mates. I'd noticed that his indicators occasionally flash on their own. First time I noticed it I was walking down the road toward his disco when they started flashing and I thought he was just round the corner and had hit the button on the key fob. Since then we've noticed that seemingly randomly they'll do the little flash sequence and stop, this seems to have gotten worse as yesterday I thought he'd knocked the hazards on and he had to play with the fob and eventually lock it manually. Apart from that its running ok. Any ideas?
  20. Knuckles remain intact and blanking plate in place. Ratface120, well now you tell us, lmao. I'll know for next time and at least I can pass on my little hint to others on here. Great thread though, the old bus seems to pick up a little faster and the turbo whistle is pretty evident now too.
  21. Disco/Defender downpipe change, to remove the catalyst by Raceface120 It was spot on apart from that little bit of info. Then again I'm going to have to replace my dampers with some gas shocks soon, but I'll see how the dreaded MOT goes first Thanks for the EGR warning, the pipe to manifold nuts came off far too easily so theres bound to be pay back elsewhere
  22. I've just added a defender exhaust down pipe to my disco and new rear set of disco ones as mentioned in the technical archive on here. Obviously I've saved more than a few quid not having to buy a cat or a pipe with the flexy bit in. The thread was spot on it made such a difference being able to just use the right spanner or socket first time without fishing around for the right size one in the tool box. I do have one problem with the thread and a tip for anyone else planning to do this mod. Why didnt it mention just once to jack the body up? My arms are in bits and my hands in ribbons. I spent hours jiggling the pipes banging into the cross members, jacking the bus up, changing the axel stand up to the next hole. Then the eureka moment when I realised that the body needed to go up to give me the clearance to turn that sodding pipe through 90. Right the EGR is comming off next, anything blindingly obvious I need to know? ;-)
  23. I'm currently running on about 20% veg oil though as the weather is getting warmer I'll be upping to 50% to see how she runs. Issues you could have as far as I'm aware are blocked fuel filter as the carp in the lines gets stripped out, these may also degrade if they're rubber, though on a P reg, like mine, they should be synthetic. Power drops off at the high end and as a result you'll find obaying the speed limits easy. Veg Oil used is the cheapest I can find
  24. Cheers thats what I was looking for I'll be able to get Rover paint locally no probs and test it in the arches where tin worm has done its work. And yep Paintman your right no way a touch up pen will cover the damage, I could think of one use for it once I've finished on someones kneecaps
  25. Does anyone know a suitable non OE replacement colour for the above? A delightful person scratched 'easy' across my bonnet and I dont really want to take the long trip out to coniston and pay undoubtedly over the odds for a OE can. I've gone with a temporary fix with a fiat metallic black but would love to get a colour that blends in a little better.
