  1. I see your point especially with this point, however they havent tried to seal the chassis as far as im aware. the thing with the petrol tank is there is a constant supply of wet air so you get the condensation, if sealed air tight there won't be any more (hence the silica gel) moisture getting in. Just trying to save some of the hastle with cleaning and waxoiling inside a chassis.
  2. Reduced corrosion, i just find when offroading it fills up with so much carp and holds water.
  3. Is there any reason why a chassis has to have holes in it? i'm thinking along the lines of welding up all the holes and welding in tubes for the bolt holes, then chuck some silica gel in before weldin up the last hole. this would stop ant water or mud traps inside the chassis. or even chuck a few litres of oil in before welding up? any thoughts?
  4. In theory the answer is Yes. but in practice it's more complecated. some industrial and household A/C's do switch over to become heat pumps. basicly the Condensor (high pressure) and the Evaporator (low pressure) switch places in the circuit. for this reason the Evaporator may not be rated to the required pressure so might burst. also you would probably have to turn the Expansion valve round in the circuit, and mabey the reciever and the drier. also then you might have problems with the controls.
  5. No not sure, that one does look like an aftermarket one.
  6. They are a standard landrover item and are often on ebay, not sure if you can still get new ones.
  7. I have one of these and find it works very well, i've been stuck and pulled out without any problems, also i've still got standard steering rods and never bent them.
  8. ??????? care to enlighten us??? or is it just a very random comment, lol
  9. Dont forget the Auto is alot easier in the drivetrain, smoother power delivery so less chance of snaping things.
  10. Auto all the way!!!! just drive mine and see what you think
  11. Cheers for all the help guys, it was my axle. we managed to get it off. we decides to cut the flange of with a grinder, got most of the way through then got a slide hammer on it and the pin came free, i think due to the heat from cutting. thanks for the heads up on the spacer jerico, we found the item in the 10 spline axle we removed.
  12. Good thinking drizz, we really want to be looking for places where we can stop and pitch a tent, then work routes around that i reckon. do you know of many campsites around your area Paul? also any particular places of intrest? can we drive up a mountain? also any lanes that are impassable or closed?
  13. Its not bad for a 300tdi from a dealer. I definatly wouldn't get it if it has a N/A engine in it, it aint that cheap. if you dont mind doing a bit of work then i'd keep looking as there are some real bargains about, I got a 1996 300tdi with a rebuilt turner engine in it for £600, just needed inner wings welding up. I nearly bought a 1998 V8 last month needing a bumper for £400. My mate got a 200tdi needing a boot floor for £400, see here http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=34805 There's a 2door 200tdi down the road needing a boot floor up for £500, PM me if your interested as it's only 20mins from colchester.
  14. Grass!!!! *cough* 32" sir *cough* lol
  15. Yeah but it's different in a private environment, still not advised but at least you cant get sacked. The thread probably requires a subtitle like this drizz "DONT TRY THIS AT HOME FOLKS, ALL WORK IS CARRIED OUT BY HIGHLY TRAINED IDIOTS"
  16. I'm also interested in any other replys, i had a slight problem on sunday.
  17. i had a 2.25 petrol flywheel fitted to my 300tdi, it made no noticable difference. reason for fitting was the ring gear and starter gear are different between tdi and older engines.
  18. A friend of mine has a RRClasic and has a knock on the off side front when in diff lock but not there when difflock is disengaged. he's checked wheel bearings and swivel pins and all relevent steering joints/bushes. I cant think of anything that would knock only in difflock? Any ideas?
  19. Unfortunatly Dave didn't have a 744 box on the shelf when i rang him at 8. But he had one built for me by 1pm, just as i arrived. Yet again TOP service from ashcroft!!!!
  20. It's a tdi one, i think it's a 744. i'll call first thing, thanks Dave
  21. Well, i as they're closed so i cant phone him i thought i'd ask if anyone knew if they keep them on the shelf?
  22. Anyone know if ashcrofts are likely to have a ZF4HP22 4 speed auto box in stock? mine's dead and need a replacement in before saturday.
