  1. Have just shown this to my 2 sons, as a prime example of how to do it all wrong. Sometimes videos like this are handy just to show people who are "new" to winching how not to do it. Still its a shame the bl++dy tree did not fall on his head. Regards Keith
  2. Hi All, Another question regarding the 300tdi auto 110 being built. Considering putting a Electric Fan in place of the viscous one, basically whats the best way , kenlowe, pacet or something from the wreckers?. the 110 will mainly be used for long journeys, also towing a heavy trailer at times. Thoughts ideas recommendations etc gratefully accepted. regards Keith
  3. Hi All, Having installed the 300Tdi+ auto Box from a disco into the 110 and piped it all up, I have fitted the steering box from the disco to give me power steering, need i change the drop arm from the disco box (as long as i use the disco tie bar). Or must i use the 110 drop arm and the 110 tie bar. The reason i ask is the 110 drop arm is not wanting to come off just smashed a 3 leg puller trying. Regards Keith
  4. thanks for that will order one tomorrow, the ones i saw were about £250 for a bent piece of scaffolding tube!! regards keith
  5. Hi All, Has anyone removed the bulkhead behind the seats on a 110?, if so what did you put in its place?, i seem to remember a company selling replacement "bars", that cost an arm and a leg. (or is it me thats tight). Regards Keith

  8. Hi All, The 200 TDi in the Double Cab is getting a bit tired, so would you rebuild it or is it worth it to shell out for a short motor from turners or a engine rebuilding company?. Never having rebuilt a oil burner only V8s. The actual work removing stripping down is not a problem, just considering the options before i make a start. Any comments welcome Regards Keith
  9. Hi All, Having fitted the engine, box from a disco 300tdi auto into a 110, the pipes from the oil cooling rad are not fitting to well , so basically can i cut them then rejoin them with flexible hose, if so then does it need to be high pressure etc and if so where can i get it from with approprite clams clips etc. regards Keith
  10. Thanking you, i new someone on here would have done it, now to find the 200TDi filter box, is it in the garage?, shed, or just put somewhere safe? or is the bl--dy wife using it as a plantpot?. Regards Keith
  11. Hi All, Am in the process of converting a ex mil 2.5N/A 110 into a 300 TDI Auto, engine box etc from a Disco. Anyway engine box in the 110 no problems rad etc fitted plus hoses, was hoping too use the air filter from the disco but no space even after removing washer bottle from n/s wing. Having justy measured up i can get the air filter housing in from a 200 TDi pretty easily, is there any reason why this cant be used?, or at lezast whats the easiest way of solving the air filter problem? I have totally removed the EGR from the manifold and blanked it of at the manifold to gain more space. i know several people have done this and the answer is probably straightforward its just me have a lot of "senior moments" recently or at least thats what the wife says!! Regards Keith
  12. Ashcrofts it is then, just have to sell one of the grandkids first , or then again i would save a fortune just by giving them away grandkids that is
  13. Hi All, The LT77 in the double cab is shall we say goosed, knocking its bag out in 3, 4, 5th anyway any suggestions about where to get one from, Ashccofts i suppose but just thought i`d ask. Whats pi88ed me off is that this was a recon box 16000 miles ago bought from a local company in Doncaster,13 months ago, contacted them yesterday all i got was sorry out of warranty and over the allowed milage "we can supply you with a another one sir for £---". I declined though not in as few words. Regards Keith
  14. Not really just folow the book, and keep everthing CLEAN once its stripped and lube well with Brake Fluid before re-assembly regards Keith
  15. Hi All, I have heard horrible tales about most of the engine re-builders at some point over the last umpteen years i have had V8s in one size or another. Anyway 3 years ago my wifes 3.9RR Classic, developed the slipped liner syndrome the truck had only done 72000 miles with full service history. anyway as she bought it from a dealer it was sorted out under warranty, the engine fitted was a RPI 4.6 using the origonal 3.9 heads, the only thing RPI said was that the engine would need to be re-chipped (not under warranty i had to pay £250 rings a bell). Anyway since that time the engine has done 60000 miles never missed a beat pulls like a train. the reason RPI was used is that the dealer in question said they were far better than the factory re-con lumps by LR which was the other option only in 3.9 and i fancied 4.6 for the extra torque as we do a lot of very heavy towing around europe. The above probably not any help but just thought i would add it anyway. Which ever route you go i hope you eventually get it right. Regards Keith
  16. You can exchange the large oxy cylinder for a smaller one, at any BOC or Air products dealer (depending which cylinder you have). And in my opinion oxy/acet is well worth having if only for cutting steel and heating up bolts that have been their for years and rusted solid, propane is okay for cutting, heating up etc,but you will need Acet for welding. Though this type of welding to do it properly requires practice. Or to put it another way if i could only have mig or oxy/acet it would be oxy/acet everytime. Too many people think welding with a mig is easy and produce very poor welds, bird sh*t is the usual term. When i was MOT testing i saw thousands of poor mig welds but very few poor oxy/acet welds but as i say it takes longer to master. As for invalidating insurance, not always correct depending on where the garage is situated in terms to the house, my insurers are aware i have oxy/acet and never been a problem with them. The cylinders do remain the property of the supplier which is why you need a empty one to exchange for a full one. As for cost of £125 not expensive i think a set sold on E-Blag for £155 last week and the cylinders were empty. Hope this helps. regards Keith
  17. Hi All, Have just obtained a Disco with a 300tdi engine and auto box to fit in the ex mil 110(was a 2.5 N/A). The question is as the 110 has no power steering, can i fit, modify etc the kit from the Disco that the engine and box is coming out of to the 110 for power steering?. regards Keith
  18. Hi All, Having now obtained a ex military 1985 110 2.5 N/A for conversion to 300Tdi Auto, does anyone know where i can obtain a wiring diagram from? Regards Keith
  19. It certainly does thanks. Regards Keith
  20. Hi All, Having been after a 300tdi auto for the wife i have given up the idea of buying one already done and decided to do it myself, as is i don`t have enough to do. Anyway purchased a ex military 110 with the 2.5N/A engine fitted, soon to be removed with manual box and disposed of (will be free to anybody who wants it or it goes in the bin). Obviously the engine mounts will need to be changed but will the autobox "bolt up on the existing mounts" does anyone know and i`m sure someone will know. The engine and box will be from a disco pre EDC version as i understand that the EDC version will require a lot more work to do. Also should i stick with the disco transfer box or a defender one. Any ideas help etc appreciated. Regards Keith
  21. Hi All, The 110 Tdi is getting ready for a new set of tyres currently running 31x10.5x15 but have a set of 16x7j wheels considering going to 750X16 tyres but anybody else think that for example 235x70x16 are better?. Tyres are for road use only i have a set of offroad wheels and tyres. Regards Keith
