  1. 5mb engine did not come out until very late 81, early 82 FridaT
  2. 541874 is a block casting numkber (2.25 3mb) not an engine number. The engine number is stamped on the block (vertical) behind the waterpump. FridaT www.turner-engineering.co.uk
  3. Sorry Jim, perhaps I could have been clearer, I meant cylinder bore. The 300TDI does not have a sleeves (or liners) fitted from the factory. We have never laid eyes on a 2.8 so can't comment on that one. Only ever sold a couple of heads for the engine type. FridaT
  4. If by sleeve you mean cylinder liner, yes it is possible for them to crack but it is very rare in a TDI. FridaT www.turner-engineering.co.uk

2.25 5MB diesel Series 111 - 366 The head gasket for the 2.25 and 2.5 diesel are the same part number ERR 3618. FridaT www.turner-engineering.co.uk
  6. HRC 2666 is a casting number - 300TDI cylinder head Scallops between the valves, definately 300TDI head. FridaT www.turner-engineering.co.uk
  7. There are indeed two type of TD5 cylinder heads. Early type - 2 internal fuel galleries Later type - 1 internal and 1 external fuel gallery. Later type - about 2001/2 onwards. Both types can suffer from a cracked fuel gallery. FridaT www.turner-engineering.co.uk
  8. We regularly see TD5 cylinder heads which have a crack in the fuel gallery or a cracked injector socket. A pressure test of the fuel galleries usually shows it up beautifully. FridaT www.turner-engineering.co.uk
  9. The 200TDI original silver colour tends to turn sort of golden over time due to heat etc, this is quite normal. Frida T www.turner-engineering.co.uk
  10. Use a special running in oil with a freshly rebuilt engine for the first 500 miles to ensure piston rings bed in correctly and prevent bore glaze. Then change oil and filter and use a good quality engine oil. For the first 500 miles or so - do not leave the engine idling, use variable speeds. Engine parts as used in our own production and shipping worldwide available. http://www.turner-engineering.co.uk/html/landroverparts.html FridaT
  11. Chris No professional engine builder has time to check ring gaps. Providing the pistons and rings are the correct size for the bores they will be there or there abouts. Space the rings out evenly around the piston and fit them. Richard Turner www.turner-engineering.co.uk
  12. ERR 1632 superseeded to ERR 6490 crankshaft seal ETC 5064 camshaft seal FridaT www.turner-engineering.co.uk
  13. TD engine blocks are different than 200TDI blocks. You cannot build a 200TDI with a TD block. FridaT www.turner-engineering.co.uk
  14. Different animal. As someone posted earlier, picture? FridaT www.turner-engineering.co.uk
  15. Differnt block casting (turbo take off) which has differnet main bearing housings. Pistons, manifolds, fuel injection pump are also different. Cracked pistons are due to combustion abnormalities - Ie overheating and/or faulty fuel injection equipment. Correctly installed, maintained and keep a turbo diesel cool and it will last as long as any other diesel engine. FridaT www.turner-engineering.co.uk
  16. Sorry Dano I stand corrected, some of the early 2a engines also have longer pushrods. Whether 2a or S111, the 2.25 3mb block castings are identical and you can use either a 7 or 8:1 imperial head. FridaT www.turner-engineering.co.uk
  17. Dano 568750 casting number cylinder heads are usualy 8:1 CR, only the very early ones are 7:1, which can easily be skimmed to 8:1CR. Pushrods for both 7 and 8:1CR are the same, again only the early 2.25 petrol in the S11 (1958-1961) had a different lenght of pushrod. Don't really see what the problem is here, unless the head is metric in which case all you would need is a stud kit. FridaT www.turner-engineering.co.uk
  18. 5mb crankshaft rear oil seal ERR 2532 - ensure you buy an original equipment Dowty seal if you prefer to do the job once. Frida T www.turner-engineering.co.uk
  19. Indeed the block has liners but still the same Rover liners as the earlier V8 engine type. To suggest that a porous bore should be out of the question is untrue. It is actually the block casting which cracks behind one or more of the liners, resulting in water pumping and sucking over the top. We have supplied exchange engines for a good number of the later type V8 engines. FridaT www.turner-engineering.co.uk/html/V8engines.html
  20. Assuming all electrics have been checked. Oil light on at idle and goes off when the revs go up. Most likely the rear camshaft bearing has moved in it's housing. To check this is the case, remove the rear side cover plate and either have a feel around or shine a torch in there. To repair is an engine out and specialist job as the camshaft bearings will need to be replaced as a set and line reamed to ensure camshaft turns corectly. In itself not an expensive job but taking the engine out and refitting could be. FridaT www.turner-engineering.co.uk
