  1. They do one for the 'human species' as well!! Some of the items listed make an awful mess though!!!
  2. Cheers Dan!! I've been to the local scrappy today and managed to get a few bits of plate to see if we can sort it out the 'ye-ha' way!! We'll have a go and see how far we get this weekend and if we need some new ones we'll give you a shout!! Yes please, still want the wheels and tyres!! Do you know when you are up this way yet or is it still unconfirmed?? PM me and we'll sort it out!! If it's easier to meet half way on Sunday then I can do that!! Cheers Adrian
  3. At the risk of sounding like a complete Numpty - what is and where would I find an SPI supplier???
  4. The rest of the axle casing appears to be pretty sound at the moment!! (Famous last words!!) So I think the welding solution is the best one - just need to find some plate to do it!! I'm trying to explain it without getting confused!! It's the horizontal bits of the upside down 'U' pieces that have rusted away to nothing!! The vertical bits are OK so I think the solution will be to weld some new horizontal pieces on with holes drilled in the right places and some nuts tacked on so they become captive!!?? I think that clears it up!!
  5. Having spent the day trying to replace the saggy old springs on our RR, we've come across a little stumbling block! When the springs and bottom plates were removed it appeared that the brackets / plates that are attached to the axle are completely rusted through! Now, not being much of a welder/fabricator , I'm wondering if 1)anyone knows of someone who sells these as a repair section/part 2)anyone has made some before and fancies making up 4 more!! 3)it's a case of trying to make something up myself (obviously this will involve a lot of lassoos and shouting ye-ha!!!)?? I think the vertical parts that are actually welded to the axle are pretty sound, so it may just be a case of welding some new plates across these with holes drilled in the right places. However if this is not the case they will need to be completely replaced! I've got a friend lined up to do the welding onto the vehicle part, but just need some advice on the other bit!! Any clues??!!?? Cheers, Adrian
  6. I'm game for a giggle!! It'll also give us a target to get the RR sorted and good to go!! Nothing booked in Feb yet - except my birthday, but this will be my present to myself!! I'll ask Santa for some velcro gloves and some new wellies!!!
  7. OK for me too!! Just a bit slower to load than usual!
  8. Did you ever get to the bottom of this?? Ours is doing exactly the same - mainly on the motorway at speed, but it can be a bit wobbly elsewhere too!! We've done the rear shocks and also replaced the lower steering shaft UJ (it had about 1/4 turn of slack in it!!!) but we don't seem to be getting any closer!! The bushes were all well enough to pass the MoT just over a month ago, so I don't think it's them!! We know that the rear springs need replacing, but I can't help thinking that this won't cure the problem either!!
  9. Errr.. ....errrrr.... .......DAM it!!!
  10. Just you wait!!! When we've got some respectable mud tyres, we'll have another go at that punch and see how we get on!! At least I only cracked a lens!!
  11. I have to agree with both of the last 2 comments!! I'd love a bob, but it won't happen for a while!! Believe me, it's rather capable as is (mostly worn ATs and saggy old standard springs!!), but we will get a big jump in performance just by putting MTs and a 1" lift on it!! At least the headlights will aim at the road on the way home anyway - that's always a bonus!!
  12. Mmmmmmmmmmmm Bobtail!!!!! Soon....................not yet!! Once you've all worked out how to do it properly I might let you loose on mine!!!
  13. Much fun and rather hilarious trying it in a bog-standard range rover!! We'll definitely have another go in the new year when we have some decent tyres and a bit more groung clearance!! Oh, and a new rear light lens!! I am of the same opinion as Mark though!! A punch safari is definitely worth a go!! Maybe not up into the Outback - think I might get a little stuck!!!!!

  15. Just went for a quick walk to the car to get the old lunch box and counted 3 snowflakes!! Nothing dramatic I know, but at least something's happening down here in Chatham (pronounced Cha'am for those who aren't from round here!!!)
  16. That's exactly what I was looking at doing!! Have you had an MoT done on that?? If so, were there any comments or sucking through teeth??!!??
  17. ...and windows - especially when left open to the best that Michael Fish can throw at you!!!!
  18. Suspension lift or body lift??? Either way the centr of gravity goes up!! Sorry if that seems a little naive, but that's how I see it!! Deano: Maybe post a few pics for the uneducated amongst us to view??
  19. No relation to a certain Keith Chegwin was he???
  20. Many thanks all!! Especially Mr v8bertha - i'll be in touch soon to arrange a pick up!!
  21. Thanks to all for the advice on my last post!! The next 'newbie' question is in relation to suspension lifts. The story so far... A set of 1" lift springs landed in the boot of the RR when I picked it up - FOC mind - but I am somewhat uncertain whether this will be enough with it still being the standard length!! The eventual aim is to cut some off the back, but not just yet!! I am assuming that If I am fairly capable in a standard-ish RR, then a shorter one with big mods will make for a whole lot of fun when the time comes!!! And so... There have been various mentions about 2", 3" and even 4" lifts with the aid of kits and expensive goodies!! I am, however, tight (some would say frugal, but I say it as it is!!) and would like to consider budget ways of getting high!!! It has been demonstrated to me that, using some 3x2 box section, a welder and a pillar drill, it is possible to create a 2" lift fairly easily, but I do wonder whether the MoT man and his big, wobbly, "that's not quite right" finger would instantly point it out as a FAIL???????????? Any clues on this one, or has anyone done it?? I understand that it is quite a good way off getting up in the world quickly, but I'll need to keep the vehicle roadworthy to take it to play-days and events - mainly cos I have nothing to tow it with yet!!
  22. Mine is bionicade, a combination of my invincibility due to a certain little digital enhancement I have to keep my heart running right and a shortened version of my name!! Not very original really, but suggests that I can go for hours......... B) my user name on here is due to a certain colouring agent that was added to my DNA make-up nearly 25 years ago!!! Thanks UNIGATE!!!!!!!!
  23. Mornin all!! Just registered and just getting in to the whole Range Rover ownership thing!! I've bought a 1987 3.5 V8 Manual EFi (lots of sucking through teeth!!), with a friend, which is standard in every way apart from some bits of the interior that are and have fallen off!! I've been to a play-day at Woodlands in Kent and found it to be an increadibly capable vehicle even though it's fitted with AT tyres at the moment. It will be primarily used as an off-road toy so I'm looking to make the first improvement which is wheels and tyres! Been looking around for a few days and have found an offer from the 4x4 Store Exeter which seems to be fairly reasonable for a set of 235/85 R16 Colways with 8-spoke Steel rims! Just want some opinions on :- 1) whether the Colway MTs are any good?? 2) whether they will fit on without a suspension lift or any major modifications to the arches etc?? 3) whether they will look silly once we've lifted it?? Any help will be greatly received!! Also, if anyone has a set of wheels and Mud tyres available for sensible money, give me a shout!!
