  1. Hi all I've had my landy over a year now but never done motorway mileage in it I get around 25 mpg to work and back and that's country roads with a bit of stop start but on the motorway what mpg could I expect as ill be doing 80 mile trips in it every now and again to Manchester Any info would great
  2. I have a straight good conditioned defender roof and sides with windows that are tinted it need painting but it is in straight condition how much could I get for these please be honest still unsure of If I should sell it tbh
  3. read online a 3.9 auto in low produces something like 10,000ftlbs but cant believe everything you read does anybody know the actual there or there abouts figures of my 200tdi (From factory running healthy)
  4. **** it I'm on the shell forecourt enough with my 200tdi I might aswell have some noise to go with the awful mpg
  5. 3.9 it is mate thanks for all that ill keep my eyes peeled if I'm honest I don't care to much for chasing power figures I just want an easy v8 conversion that is manual and will run well with a lovely sound and enough grunt to do me off road that I'm sure any v8 has. Next I need to find a rough step by step thread or a book or something I can follow in my head a few times before I begin buying parts does any oft know of a thread or a book I can buy or can anybody give me a quick step by step run through of what's involved
  6. I think the plan is to try pick up a 3.9 as it seems the easiest to put in I could still be persuaded to go with the 4 if I knew it would be just as easy but I don't know then hopefully get it on an engine stand and tinker with it in my free time while keepin an eye out for a lt85 then get them both together and whip them in! If I was to choose the 4.0 over the 3.9 is it more complex to wire in? What is involved?
  7. I'm in Cheshire and yeah my dad is giving me it cheap very cheap infact but I was wondering what id get re sale also with regards to it being modified it depends who the buyer is I suppose but still I'd be happy with 4.5
  8. Was hoping a little higher slightly disappointed with that in my mind I had 4.5-5
  9. Will look through it thanks! A 3.9 and a 4.0 won't be to far from this really will they both being rover v8's and yeah I need to make a list ideally of every part ill need so I can start buying them but I don't know where to start!
  10. Noo no where near! That's just where I took some pics I wouldn't dream of going in salt water it would dissolve before my eyes
  11. Hi all I'm wondering what my defender is worth because basically it's a joint project between me and my dad but he's just bought a new 110 so doesn't have a need for this now and ill be buying his half off him obviously at sons rate like but still interested to know what it's worth Chassis has done 200k Defender 200tdi fitted 120k fsh 1984 Sold with rag top bikini top and full hard roof with side windows in same colour Just been resprayed Chassis solid Bulk head not a spot of rust is perfect Just had new brake servo master cylinder brake lines and front calipers also disks and pads on front Wheel bearings all round What would you all pay and if you need any more info to give a good valuation please ask
  12. If the 4.0 can't be manual what about the 3.9?
  13. Will a 4.0 fit in? I'm getting told it will not fit I also want it on a manual ideally so if I was to pick up a 4.0 lump with the bits and bobs I needed then keep and eye out for lt85 box would these then go together out of the car and then all I would have to so is hoist it in and mount it. Once that is done what sort or wiring is needed or what is next I really am a novice with engine conversions and this will be my first
  14. Thanks for the reply I think ill keep an eye out for the 3.5 with the correct box (lt85 preferably) as it seems the most straight forward Is this what you'd recommend?
  15. I agree this is only in the pipeline at the moment waiting for the right deal to come along in no rush and slowly getting on top of the mechanical condition my my landy recently had new brake servo brake lines front calipers all bar one wheel bearings but got the bearing to go on just need time axle seal etc etc so getting there hopefully one day will stop giving me grief and I can crack on with this v8
  16. Right today went out to pub Decided to go out in mates car for next part of the night So turned my battery isolator to open state In the process I moved my battery up god knows how or why Gt back re connected the battery then nothing Not even trying to turn over just the quietest click and I mean silent almost I not sure if the metal lid shorted the battery out but two cars a fiesta and a vectra couldn't jump start it so I had to get loads of people to push and bumped it got it home turned it off and then still nothing but an almost silent click? What does this sound like?
  17. So a 3.9 Efi will fit my engine mounts? What about the box?
  18. Hi all Posted something a while back about thinking about putting a v8 in my 1984 90 200tdi. Loads of people said go for the 4.6 out of the range but after a bit of fishing round lots of people say it won't fit and I'm not made of money so I don't like the sound of this The 4.0 I've been told also won't fit but I know they are in the 50th anniversary ones? So I'm pretty confused What my question is is will a 3.5 or a 3.9 fit onto my lt77 box or do I need a new box? And what about engine mounts will they fit the ones I currently have? And what else needs to be done other than hoisting the v8 in and wiring it all up? Cheers Tom
  19. Yeah not to sure on all that! I would defo declare it to them but not sure what they would say or do? So the 4.6 rangerover engine is the one to get? Does anybody know of a kit that anyone makes or sells or could list everything I need?
  20. What is the 4.6 out of I was not even aware of these! I know of the 4.4 rangerover engine but not seen it some in a defender
