I've fitted two alternators now and they've both snapped in the same place and I don't have a clue why. please help I'm not sure what I could be doing wrong
hi all
got the battery light on
it used to come on for a few seconds when i started and one rev would send it away but now it is on and it goes dull or slightly more dim when higher revs
i have checked the belt and they seem tight
what could this be ?
any help would be great, cheers

hi all
i drive a 1984 200tdi 90 with an lt77 box. recently I've been having to top up the clutch fluid every week or two it slowly gets worse and worse until it near enough won't work and i have to pull over and top up and pump for a few mins can anybody suggest what this might be i think possibly air in the system.. if it is how would i go about sorting it out.
another unrelated question is my gearbox feels carp it has a slight grind if i go down from 4th into 3rd and just doesn't feel the best.. would a full gearbox oil change make it feel any better I'm not sure when it was last done so could this be why it feels a bit rough.. what oil would you advise and how much of it would i need?
and ANOTHER question... how much nicer of a box is the r380? should it fail in the future I'm looking to get hold of a short bell housing r380 instead of replacing the lt77? would this be a good move or not?
any help would be great
cheers
hi all
i have a 90 canvas top with half doors
the doors were bought new around a year ago and one thing that is really bothering me is whoever has produced them has used crappy bolts that are rusting.
this means rusty water sitting in all the door channels and it hasn't become a problem yet but it will one day
any suggestions?
has anybody every changed the studs to a stainless steel bolt?
i always thought these iceland defenders where a couple of highly modified ones and not every single defender!
they certainly look the part but i think for uk roads they are a bit over the top. these are the closest wheel arches we can find we have sourced a supplier of these icelandic arches but i think my dad said he was after £600 for a set then you need the wheels to fill them haha!
hi all
my dad has a 110 td5 he is currently rebuilding
he is basing it on the new SVO defenders you may have seen in the new james bond trailer.
does anybody know what sort of wheel size these look to be?
more importantly where can we find these extended arches? these are not the usual £110 flex arches from paddock so if anybody knows it would be a great help
if you haven't seen the new SVO defender here is a pic
Help anyone what could this knocking be my dad had his defender sand blasted and now there's an awful knocking on tick over
When you Rev the knocking stops
Any help would be great
Hi all I put series doors on my defender and have lost the nuts that hold the tops on to the door. An m12 goes on but is the wrong thread type What will this likely be a 3/8" imperial (that's a guess I'm completely unsure) Any help would be great!
flux I've been with before and did come up reasonable cheap. thanks for all the suggestions. had a very reasonably priced quote with footman james classic car insurance. not sure what the cut of year is to define it was classic but by far the cheapest for anybodys future reference to this thread.
hi all i have a 1984 90 that has had a 200tdi fitted
ordered a 200tdi exhaust and it looks nothing like what i took off
any ideas on what pipe it will be that i have?
hoping its not something that has been bodged up but if this is the case what is the best thing to do now ?
just have a conversation with you insurance if you are really worried. i did this as mine started life as a pick up, bought it with sides and a roof, then converted to a canvas myself and i just told them what it was and they were fine with it.
our hi lift had like an open jaw rather than a pin and we used it wherever we could get it. the hi lift jacks are good to get you out of a mess off road but i always try and use a trolley jack when at home i think those hi lifts are lethal
Yes correct bulbs and brand new light fitting also. I have touched each light assembly to a spare battery to illuminate them at the point I am working so I know they are good.
I'm somehow loosing the voltage when I connect it up
