  1. After replacing the swivels a couple of months ago, today i noticed one of the swivels is leaking oil through the drum onto the tyre. Somewhat annoying since i used genuine seals! Now i've always had problems keeping the oil in; only succeeding by replacing the distance piece the seal sits on and using one shot grease. This worked quite well with the cone setup for a number of years; however now i'm using railko bushes so i must use oil So now i have bought some old type metal and leather seals! Should I use those or the plastic type again? Changing the subject to water pumps, there not cheap. I've gone through two in about 15000 miles (always the bearings seem to go) Are there any good suppliers anyone knows about? or even better.. does anyone have a genuine one lying around! This being for a '53 2litre petrol
  2. Have you replaced the valve stem oil seals? Whats the compression like have you tested it?
  3. how about this. BEFORE AND AFTER =
  4. so long as the correct wheel cylinders are used with the correct 110 brake system bore size, i would imagine so.
  5. Na series 2/2a's had a side filler level plug i think. Series ones had the dipstick. any chance of hearing a recording? like on youtube or something? is the yellow knob popping up correctly or seized? High / low lever moving correctly or seized? is there oil in it!
  6. Also check that the flange which goes into the transfer box isn't scored / or that the seal has worn a groove in it. Mine had a nice groove worn by the old seal; and just replacing the seal didn't do the trick until I replaced this.
  7. I think they were fitted to the early 2286cc, but not totally sure. I have one fitted to the 2ltr and its a great dizzy. Early minis had them also upto 1974. see attatched pic, bottom left. they also do an electronic ignition kit, as you can see. number 8A ignitor kit is £60.04 inc vat number 9a lumenition is £78.98 inc vat
  8. Series ones had bearings top and bottom until 1951. They also used the same swivel housing when they converted to cone setup. Which was also used with the railko setup on series three models (fitted to mine). If you can press the race in, and get the correct fitting pin to match, you'll be alright. Bit different to yours I know but may be of some help.
  9. Looks like a lucas 25d. It should say on the side of the body, where your thumb is in the third photo if you rub the muck off. The only part numbers i can give you would be from the mini spares centre if thats any good?
  10. Thanks sheeppimp! I try and look after my 80; had it since I was 17.. thats 13 years now.., learned to drive in it.. etc. Use it every day as well, quite reliable really. I had a 73' petrol 109 once, never got on with it tho.. to slow and quite rusty in places...
  11. I have tried a few motor factors, but am unable to source these wiper blades for my A reg 110. I have never seen this type before with the pin fixing, of course older cars had something similar but with a rubber bung acting as the pin.. and to be honest i would rather buy new then re-rubber them. Any one know who sells them online?
  12. dunsfold dlr are very helpful, very knowledgable and have lots of Series 1 parts. P.A. blanchard also have series one parts John Craddock as well. all have web sites for you to look at. There's a guy in the series one club that does chassis parts.. had some from him and was very impressed.
  13. 2.0! that'll be my engine!! Yes it does. I had 50 litres of contaminated petrol last year around a 50/50 mix - i left it in the garden for a few weeks and could see it seperating into 2 layers. Anyway i put it in and it ran fine, a little white smoke now and then on full throttle or on start up tho.
  14. Well, all parts fitted. With the railko conversion kit i had to replace the pins in the top steering arms from the splined type to the railko plain type. Fumbled my way through it but its now done, lets hope i shimmed it up correctly. road test time tomorrow! They are the origional axles, I did the rears last year. Not to hard, I had an engineering shop do it for me. yes jimfoo, the first 80's had taper roller bearings top and bottom to start with anyway, so could also go that way in the future. cheers guys. james.
  15. The second type are fitted to series ones and twos and are 15/16 socket. Threes had the other shorter type and are a bit bigger.
  16. I was on the phone to dunsfold friday, just phoned for prices but then just ordered the lot. Only the wheel bearings were in an allmakes box, and are zwz made in china! They will be returned. Took a trip to essex county bearings and they are more expensive then the dealer,, so guess where i'm going. Gonna be cheeky and ask for discount as well. thank you for your advice. I now have something called railko bearings? I wanted to use the origional cone setup but that was rather expensive as parts are getting rare. They any good?
  17. Hello I am new here! I am rebuilding the swivels on my 53 series one 80...had it 12 years. Now I have read some of the diy guides on here which were somewhat helpful but mini is a little different.. Tracta joints etc.. I just wanted to ask if anyone has used those cheap wheel bearings that cost about £7 each from craddocks/paddocks? I really need to replace them but money is tight at the moment and the timken ones which were fitted are rather expensive at £19 the outter and £25 the inner.. + vat also.. those cheap swivels you can buy from same suppliers, how long will they last before bubbeling up? i imagine the chrome is rather thin. thanks james
