  1. me too please,if i ever get it running!!!!!!
  2. Sorry i didn't mean to sound rude regarding your product. I've spent that much on the restoration i just can't afford one and still have a fair bit of stuff to buy. It does look the job though and something to consider in the future, when funds are better. I am considering building an ally tunnel to mount the changer on and can incorporate the rangie handbrake on it with some of those metal switches. Still thinking though and your ideas and photos are greatly appreciated.# cheers max
  3. I'll mount it on the dash with a bit of 3x2 before spending £325.00 + vat on a bit of plastic. I was thinking of fabricating a mounting system for the Rangie centre console and was wanting advice or some piccies from someone in the know. Cheers Max
  4. Hi just started thinking about how i'm going to mount the auto shifter on the gearbox tunnel. Has anyone got any photo's of their motors that i can steal some ideas from. I don't want it to look a bodge and i've kept the centre console from the Range Rover just in case. Cheers Max
  5. Hi, My old fella used to tell me not to keep the ignition switched on for any length of time as it burns the coil out. I've never seen it happen but it sound like it has on this occassion.
  6. Hi, i've just bought a set of tubular outriggers for my 90 and am very happy with them and the service i got. There is photos of the products on this site and you can look to see any difference prior to ordering. They do series stuff aswell.http://www.famousfour.co.uk/new_parts/part...h-defender.html Cheers Max
  7. Simmer down lads, Thanks for all the good advice. I'm going to take the top off the defender tank in the morning but i'm sure its only the fuel gauge actuator arm thats in there and not a pump. The engine i took out had a mechanical pump. I will see if there is any way i can fit the rangie pump on it safely. I've had a look at the ebay defender pump and think its bloody expensive..£60.00 yea but a ton..come on.Unless i'm being tight and this is the right price.. I think i've got a good idea whats required now but the accident cut off thing bothers me. How do i sort this out..has the rangie ECU already got this sorted or do i have to fit something else to cut the pumps in a crash. If the ECU does it hows it all wired to the pumps. You'll be fed up with me soon i'm sure
  8. Right, i'm now confused. I was running an old 1985 2.25 petrol engine with a mechanical fuel pump so don't have any pump at the moment. I've taken the electric in tank pump out of the range rover tank and it won't fit onto the defender tank. I was going to just buy an electric fuel pump and plumb it to the engine with a filter prior to the pump to stop bits getting in the pump. I don't really understand what i have to do now, i could do with someone with considerably better knowledge than me to just explaining what i have to buy and how to fit it all. Sorry for appearing extremely thick. Cheers Max addit: I've just read the reply from Hybrid and now understand that i have to buy a 90 in tank electric pump and add the bottom half of the RR pump to make it work. Is this correct?? Max
  9. Hi, whats the right pressure rating for the 3.5 EFI engine, i've been loking on ebay and there's loads of different ratings.
  10. Cheers something like a facet pump
  11. Hi, I've installed a RR 3.5 EFi engine into my Defender. The fuel pump is in the RR tank which i'm not using. Does the EFI engine require a specific kind of fuel pump to make it work properly. Cheers Max
  12. Hi, Mines a 90 with a two inch lift kit, articulation bars etc. It did the same under very heavy braking and like you i s"&@t myself when it happened. Thought it was my brakes at the time and checked drum brakes at rear but they were fine. Then had to take it off road last october so never really got to bottom of it.
  13. Thanks for the replies. I've been on nights so not been able to reply. The correct measurements are appreciated. Max
  14. Hi Les, I've downloaded all the manuals from here http://www.nottslrc.co.uk/manuals.htm. Thanks for the explanation, regarding 38-40 I don't know where they are. theyare certainly not on the next page as it goes into 110 dimentions. I unxderstood that the numbers on the diagram are refs to dimentions but if you look at 1 then this shows what should be the overall length of the chassis but the dimentions say 239,0--236.5 mm. Whats this all about. Im wanting specific lengths so i can put new outriggers on the rangie chassis for the bulkhead and also rear crossmember. Not to mention shortening the whole thing. Confused!!! Max
  15. Hi, is there anyone with a bit more intelligence than me that can explain what the diagram dimentions refer to. I've been sat in the workshop looking at my chassis and then the diagram and can't make head nor tail of it. Cheers Max
  16. Hi, when you say "it will have rear disc brakes you can fit alloys without any worries" do you mean that the drums get in the way or something more sinister re heat from the drums stopping the fitting of alloys. I'm thinking of eventually fitting aloys to my 90 that has drums, but already have a RR rear axle to put on if i decide to fit it.
  17. Hi, how do you do a DVLA check.
  18. At that price you can just throw em away when you've done a job....no clutter ....problem solved
  19. I've been in the garage all day, paid no attention to any sighs or mumbling from her as she 's been in and out to freezer and washing machine. Put the angle grinder to work when it looked like she was going to ask about who was making tea. Had a really good day, got loads done. Now she's fast asleep, snoring like a V8. Loads of time to explore virtual landy zone. Got away with loads......till morning...then some more dodging to be done. Ill be back at work before she realises i've done nowt in the house..... cunning eh
  20. Wifes got a 52 plate ford Kaa. I might get some plates made up for a 08 and bung em on. Oh cops just knocking at door got to go!!!!
  21. I was involved in the restoration of a lightweight on a rr chassis some years ago. We re shelled a V8 and i fell in love with the finished product. It was awsome. Made your guts rumble when you pressed the pedal. I wanted my own ever since. Call me sad but can't help it. I'm not too bothered about economy as i thought that it wouldn't get much less than the current 18mpg i'm getting now. I figured more power pulling the same weight wouldn't involve too much pedal. I know better sounding engine means louder volume and less economy.
  22. The engine i had in mind didn't have any indication as to what cc it was and i was told it was a 3.9 efi. Iv'e had alook at the engine number on the v8.com website and that tells me its from a van. I was told it was ex-police so might give it a miss as its bound to be buggered. Just cleaning the axle to re paint prior to refitting. Chassis now patched (90% of rear legs). needs a new one really but can't afford.
  23. I was wondering why no replies had been received so did some digging, you all probably think i'm a d"£ck as i've found out defenders weren't created till 1990. Mines a 90. She is 1985(typo). I'm just learning and could do with some help.
  24. Hi everyone, I have a fully original 1983 defender 2.25 petrol with five speed gearbox. I want to convert it to a V8 and have the chance of a good 3.9 EFI engine for £100.00. I have a basic/good knowledge of mechanics and can tackle most jobs myself but i could do with some instructions regarding mateing the engine to the gearbox and positioning the engine mountings. Will the LT77 gearbox be strong enough for the V8. I don't want to spoil a good original motor but could do with a bit of extra power and love the sound of the V8. I've already got a 2 inch lift kit on it and all the steering guards and rock sliders. She's a lovely motor and i've just spent the last month re plating some carp welding someone had previously done on the rear chassis rails so things are looking good. Just at the waxoil stage and then put her back together. Can't wait to get her back on the road. I would appreciate your views and advice
