  1. This article is running in The Craven Herald this week. These are the kind of people whom give amunition to those whom seek to have 4x4's banished from the lanes. They caused a right mess and drove through dry stone walls to get away. Does anyone have any ideas as to their identities, descriptions vague but worth a try.
  2. Mr Fridge... will you please come and tune my 3.5 EFI.....Im getting 11mpg with a light foot , and no the brakes aren't binding and yes the handbrakes off. Its an auto though.
  3. It look like Yosemite Sam off Bugs Bunny...
  4. Id risk it. They will go nice in your Landy. if the frames twisted it will straighten when bolted into place. Ive got an old bench and cushions in the garage you can have but its tatty. Max
  5. Hi all. I'm going too. Went last year and had a good time. Taking the caravan and setting off Friday. I might hold you up but anyone can tag along. The toilet and shower facilities were dire last year so taking the van for some home comforts.
  6. Hi. Can u borrow a small heater to put under the bonnet, thaw it all out drain and replace with antifreeze. You can then run it to see if there's any damage.
  7. I like the idea of a forum gathering perhaps using one of the shows as a venue. We could have a stall selling forum clothing and some spares. I will set up. A standing order once Nige has sent details
  8. Avoid Q plates, DVLA and Vosa at all cost. No seriously, if you've radically altered it and want to make the truck completely legal then DVLA will want to inspect it for a vehicle identity check. The chap who inspected mine greeted me with "I hate Landrovers" It was a bit frosty thereonin. needless to say £60 well spent and off i went to Vosa for an IVA (£499.00). Passed first time but a minefield nevertheless. Back to DVLA for some more red tape and another £150 for fees. Now its a Q plate (V8) i find it a tad difficult to insure Flux charges me £520.00. full no claims and i'm no spring chicken.no convictions etc. Wanted full engineers reports.. spent a full day faxing reports to NFU whom agreed to insure for £470.00. My advice as above. Max
  9. Hi Chaps, just been to the Lakes for my first ever Green Lane trip. Anderzander kindly acted as my guide, its nice to see someone who respects the lanes and other users as much as he does. We drove on five Lanes around Grizedale and the Langdales, Hodge Close areas. It was fantastic. I really enjoyed some of the technical sections and Andersander showed me the correct lines to avoid crossaxles. We took a bunch of photographs: This is through Grizedale Forest near a stone Fox Got my back wheel in the air Can't remember where this was A tricky bit near the Langdales What a view I'm now hooked and i was impressed with my truck. Nothing fell off and my road biased tyres didn't slip too much. I did however have to remove my towbar on the first lane. Cheers Andersander
  10. I went through dvla and Iva because i modified a production vehicle by changing a defender chassis for a range rover chassis ,engine, axles and auto box. a new like for like chassis doesn't require dvla to be notified so long as the old chassis is scrapped. Cut or grind the numbers off before you scrap it and document this by photographic evidence. In my experience, whilst it is important to comply with the rules, i'm not too sure that Dvla officials know them and they are open to individual interpretation. I would steer clear of any involvement with them unless you radically alter your vehicle. The consequences of things becomming very expensive, ie Iva fees and Q plate insurance is far too risky.
  11. Hi and welcome to the forum. Your Landrover sounds like it will be smart when complete. I also drive a V8 90 auto conversion and am very impressed with its all round driveability. The added room of the 110 will make it perfect for your purpose. The forum is full of decent folk whom are eager to advise when required so dont be shy if you need help. Just post some pics as you go along with the build.
  12. I drive a hybrid that i built myself in the last two years. Without the help of the forum members on here it would still be a pile of bits in my garage. I have never felt like a pariah nor is there any stolen bits on my truck. Its fully VIC and IVA checked and i would be extremely peed off if someone said otherwise. The truck in the picture could also be someones pride and joy so steady on fellas. People often make judgement without knowing the full facts.
  13. Alternator failed. New one obtained from Three Sheds. Fantastic. Took old one off. No problems. Noticed power steering belt could do with replacing. Bolt on back of mounting wouldnt come undone and space limited due to dizzy. I know take dizzy out. Access to bolt obtained and belt replaced and tightened. Dizzy replaced which had been preserved nearby so that nothing was moved and engine which was at tdc not altered. Fantastic. Start it up. Blew air box off and the explosion nearly shattered the house windows. Wife ran out with first aid box enquiring if i had any eyebrows left. Dont know what ive done to get timing 180 degrees out but problem rectified and Maximus wont start. Firing but not starting. A full day for a simple job. One of those days im afraid. Try again tomorrow.
  14. A slight oil leak that you describe will not fail the mot. If the oil has entered the handbrake drum and made it inefective then that will fail. Give it all a good wipe prior to mot appointment and you should be ok Max
  15. Ok can anyone tell me what tyres will fit on my 16 inch rims!!!! sorry Max
  16. Hi all, just received my tickets in the post this morning. I'll be setting off Friday at 10:00am.Travelling M62 and then A1. Towing caravan with Maximus so won't be doing the off road course just in case anything breaks. If anyone sees us CB will be on for a chat.I'm looking for some bargain bits but if the LRO show at Driffield is anything to go on i'll not be getting any, everything seemed so expensive. Just being part of it all is good enough reason for the 160 mile trip.Weather forecast is not too good though!! See you all there Max
  17. Count me in. Mid/ north wales or lakes would be good. It would be great to meet up and have a laugh when i get stuck.
  18. Hi, you want to try insure a Q plated vehicle. Sheeeeesh nightmare!!!
  19. Hi the prop shaft should slide freely making its overall length greater by a few centimeters. It should not bend at this middle joint at all. If there is any sideways play in the sliding section then it needs replacing. The universal joints are an easy fix and there is a section on here in the tech archive to help you. I would buy gkn or hardy spicer uj's as they are the same ones the main dealer wanted to charge me 50 quid for. I paid 12 quid on paddocks site. Hope this helps max
  20. Me and the missus are going, towing caravan and staying weekend. looking forward to it.
  21. Hi, Now got this sorted, i've used a front prop from defender on the back axle of the build, got it the wrong way round when i ordered the new uj. I've now ordered the correct part and hopefully all will be good when it arrives. My fault for being so thick... I just couldn't remember which parts i'd used. Cheers to all that helped. Max
  22. Right. Took prop off and the uj is obviously the wrong size. The markings on the prop are frc5566 and 801065-hq5. Can any of you tell me which uj fits this prop. I took it off a 1989 rangie classic that had a borg warner transfer box( the type with auto difflock). Im running it on front wheel drive at moment so need to order a uj fairly soon. Many thanks max
  23. Oh Dear, I've been outside since five thirty replacing the UJ. Read the thread in the tech archive last night and followed it to the letter. The old UJ was very badly worn with no sign of any roller pins on three of the legs. When putting the new one in it didn't all seem to nip up properly, its not fouling but seems like the new part is too small and if i nip it up the cups are half way through the yolk. Put it all together and its vibrating like television X on a Saturday night. I've a feeling that i got the wrong part and its too small. I've got the propshaft clean and there's a number on it.. if i post this up tomorrow would someone be able to tell me which UJ part number i need. I've wasted money and time and feel a right plonker cause i can't remember which propshaft i used in the build. Cheers Max
  24. Hi, thanks for the speedy reply, i'd looked at the aftermarket ones but didn't know if they'd be any good. I have now ordered a hardy spicer one at £12.00.I Can only give it a try, its been a while since i built the truck and couldn't remember which props i'd used. I figured it out though... front rangerover prop on back axle and defender front on front axle, not that it makes alot of difference as they seem to be the same for many vehicles. Thanks again Max
