  1. try this diagram http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=755
  2. The best way to take powder coating off is an acid bath, which any powder coater would have or galvanising plant. Hot dip galv can't be done on a dirty surface so you could modify the metal how you wish and then get it galvanised, they will charge you for the stripping, but not as much as the effort and materials you will probably spend on it. To answer a few of the other questions. Powder coating is "polyester powder coating" PPC which is powder eletrostatically applied and heated onto the metal for about 25mins at 200deg c Plastic coating is very different but is applied in exactly the same way, as a finished product it is much softer and won't chip as such and self healing to a degree, but will self heal properly with blow torch. As for power coating over galv, this can be done and there are I beleive 8no applicators in the uk, the tick is the pretreatment with polymers, acid etches etc. If you can't get it done locally then Medway Galvanising in Sittingbourne could do the whole process for you. If you struggle, PM me as we have one of the plants that can do PPC on galv, but don't normally offer the service other than on our work products.
  3. Equally, i don't consider my self an expert as I have not completed many challenges, I may have entered but thats different all together!
  4. A compliment and a whipping down in the same sentence. I don't see why this competion should be different to any other, I certainly wouldn't put money on be completing the day!
  5. thought about that but with my engineers tolerences i would have genuine 4 wheel steer!
  6. Well another 1hr competition for me! I found too many horse power and shuved it through the rear axle, bending both radius arms in half snapping the prop and shocks! Not something i could do at the lorry really. I am sort of hoping that i might last the time at the next one as have not done well this year. As for the wheels, i am struggling to get inbetween the trees on the events with the std 8 spoke wheels and can't get cheap and nasty wheels with a positive offset.
  7. 8's would do 10's would be better
  8. Anyone know where to get Mk1 Hilux rims in steel 16in with different offsets. I want a positive offset so that the wheel move towards the vehicle. Any suggestions much appreciated. Edited by Les - this a heavily modified Land Rover vehicle.
  9. Hello Saley, Those air controls are the same as i was running at the last comp. They work well in real life, just consider you may need to introduce an air tank as well as the compressor. Peter
  10. Hmmm. The rear caliper decided to seperate itsself from the axle and rotated with the disc, hence loosing all brakes (not normally a problem as i don't know what that pedal is for anyway) but in doing so it took the head off all of the MILD steel bolts that hold the end of the portal in place! As i don't carry UNC bolts i had to retire AGAIN! I have ordered some HT bolts and will be fitting as soon as i find my dummy again. Seriously considering going back to what i know of axles i have rebuilt but we'll see
  11. There were a couple of people with bluetooth communications, i have found where to get the helmet ones that Chris Able was wearing, does anyone know where to get the headset type ones?
  12. Don't know if its too late to change around but could the night challenge be changed to either the Friday night or Sat night, therefore more poeple may be able take part if they are commited to being home on Monday, it would certainly be better for me!
  13. Neil, Getting a bit worried that this one won't make it either, have you had anymore enteries?
  14. If we are to do a "winch off" then perhaps we need to make sure we are working on a level playing field (or not), we could for instance instead of moving our vehicles with our own winches winch a dead vehicle up a hill/shear drop. Although i am up for any test really! Bring it on
  15. I am entered as well so thats last place catered for!
