  1. this applies to most of the current winch based uk competitions i vote NO i am sorry to agree that winch sails are more trouble than they are worth especially on short and or steep pulls.whilst i have no trouble with any organiser that stipulates helmets, gloves and so on sails dont serve any purpose other than to show where a cable is. for me i would happily provide a test motor to test to destrcution with some old synthetic winch lines under video recording ,with a selection of winch sails and try them in different locations on the rope. i now consider synthetic ropes to be almost a wear and tear item and wash and inspect and replace as nessacary after each event.indeed the damage to almost all the plasmas (generic wording ) at manby this year was horrific and the rope was very badly abraided and damaged in several places.do we do like a lot of folk do and use it till it is worn out or breaks? should any organiser inspect all ropes for simple condition before , during an event. should a team be allowed to start an event if their cable is tied to the hook and not spliced? oh and yes i have snapped a rope once or twice and if they hit you they dont hurt at all.
  2. there are 2 main types of boss. there is the new smaller 6 hole pcd and the classic 100mm pcd multi hole (mainly older landys and classic cars) bearmach sell boss's for most wheels. speak to devon 4x4 as they are very much in the know on these. for you info a new small centre boss will fit momo, motor lita, mountney and a few othe rwell known brands. the classic boss should fit your wheel
  3. Dont remind me pete, i nearly sent for the damn digger. what was it 3 winches ,2 snatchblocks and a quick release range rover crossmember. the winch didnt stalll either just kept pulling cars towards the mire. note the wall of mud and stones
  4. dont forget the team that kept moving and turning round the arrows as well
  5. well said jim. i dont blame the organisers as they set out a very good competition and put a lot of hard work in for little return. the problem is purely with those folk who do not understand fair play and spoil many a good event.still lets move on ...
  6. true but one a month is good enough for me. plus dare i say it and without wishing to name some events that condone cheating by allowing competitors to drive round the taped sections , taking tags punch cards etc to the tag punch, point it is better to do an event that can be won fairly..... cue barrage of hecklers
  7. thats cool next one is the tay trophy in scotland and then the decider in devon in sept
  8. i bow to older and wiser eyes.they were not best pleased when they were disturbed though. poor rob had to jump in the cold wet muddy lagoon of slime to get away from them and to get you out if i remember? and inside the the 25 min dnf
  9. [have a look on the d44 forum for lots of photos and past event info. heres what you need to know.. 1. there is lots of drinking 2. there a lot of alcohol. 3. there is some mickey taking. 4. there is some great off roading. 5. some of the black peat bogs are very very deep its a fun event not a serious competition.there are no prizes.you have to drink a lot and have fun.
  10. spoke to the competition organiser today and he said they should be on by the morning....... clock ticking by all means email him direct for more info
  11. glad you enjoyed it.would you be the poor marshall that was roped in by some muddy looking bloke with a helmet to act as a ground anchor on the v gulley with the hornets nest? if so job well done
  12. i believe that it has been cancelled? can anybody confirm this?
  13. just spoke to a friend who was spectating and he said jim and compadres were doing ok and just outside top ten but not heard update since yesterday
  14. I know there have been lots of threads on these units but here is the recent experience I have had with this company. I have a disco 3 and bought the latest unichip direct from dastek. the unit arrived and was fitted with very little trouble. the photo instructions are poorly copied black and white pictures which are a little poor for the money you are spending on the unit. test drive the car, all is great for 2 days..... then the dash fills with warning lights and vehicle loses all power, not nice in the fast lane. coast to hard shoulder and turn it off and on again ,all appears fine for a while. this occurs 4 times at various speeds over the next 3 days.I spoke to dastek who said sent unit back to them and they will look at it and test it. this they did and yes it was faulty. I asked for a replacement unit not the same one even if they had fixed it. which they they did without a problem. fitted the new one.....the car would not even start, loads of warning lights. spoke to technical dept and guess what .they had sent me a faulty loom . I sent it back and they sent me a new and correct loom down. fitted that and the unit again.......perfect power and greatly improved drivability. yippee 2 days later and two more near accidents.removed it for the final time. took car to landrover to check it was not a vehicle fault. clean bill of health. since the unit has been removed the car has behaved faultlessly as it it did for the previous 20k before the unichip was fitted. I sent the unit back and got a full refund. now they will not refund the postage costs I have incurred as I don’t have a receipt for the costs. what can I say abut their customer service. I have tried to speak to the owner but he does not appear to talk to customers.
  15. keep original diffs you will need a 2 inch lift to use these tires and yes they may catch radius arms on full lock, if so adjust lock stops propshafts will be ok for now but will wear out ujs and sliders more quickly.more so if you take it off road. a std 300tdi will be much slower on 35 we run them for off road use and 33's for road spacers just wear out wheel bearings faster than normal
  16. everything can be done it just takes longer and costs more.the question is why you want to and how much cash you have? the easiest way is to use an independant unit that you see on trucks ,caravans and motor homes etc.they will have waranty and are easy ish to fit you could fit another landrover set up but this rarely works well
  17. thaks for that i didnt think they would fit but the lad bought them anyway
  18. yep fitted 2 now over last few years and altough fan speed is same heat is so much better. they fit in std spot but have more fins etc and better flow hence more heat.will bell em and let you know.
  19. i have fitted one before but cant remember the company that makes the upgraded matrixs. does anybody know?
  20. should have said anybody going to whitworth as well.as both are on this sunday i think
  21. any body going to tong on sunday?
  22. nope selling a set of 235 85 16 muds and a guy wants to know if they will fit std car non off road etc.
  23. i am sure somebody has asked this loads of times. but here goes what is the max size of tire that will fit without catching the archs on road ?
  24. dpends on where you get them from but scrap discos can be had for £300 sell of rest of bits hey presto free axles refurb them off car and then simply swap over.i can agree about the quality wire wire brush or similar paint rust removal.if as you say you made bungs up or have sealed the axles as above then blasting is great and cheap.we also have used acid dipping which works great but isnt cheap. happy painting and post some shots of them if you get time
