  1. hello all at last i have fitted the disco 300di engine and box to my 90 all in and running as i found out on this forum i had to cut the seat box to fit the gearbox in the right place and welded some new fabricated engine mounts on the chassis i was wondring if anyone had done this before and could post me some pics of the inside of the truck for some ideas how to finish off the gearlever area as at the moment i just have a hole! also a have realised that the speedo pick up on the disco box is eletrical rather than mechanical can i just swap it with the one from my box? and again also what about the temp sender how have you got round this??
  2. hello i am about to do the same job this weekend got hold of a disco as an mot failure and stripped it last weekend so this weekend is the start of fitting it into my 90 so ill let you know what problems i have are you fitting a engine out of a defender or a disco?
  3. broke the plastic box of electrical stuff off the pump and there as even a stop solenoid fitted to the pump so just wired it up and off she went guess ill start takeing the engine and box out this weekend ready to fit in my 90 thanks
  4. Anyone know how to make at 300TDI run if I remove it from the vehicle it is presently fitted in. There is a black plug on the diesel pump which if unplugged stops the engine. Many thanks in advance
  5. thanks for all the advise so far think im gonna go ahead and fit the whole lot from the disco into my 90 is it possible to fit the front and rear axels off of the disco to the 90? so basicly end up with 96 disco 300 tdi running gear under my 90 2.5.td. a a guess i would havt to still use my 90 props due to lenght or am i wrong thanks in advance again does anyone know of anyone that had done this conversion in the past?
  6. if they put r380 boxes in defenders could i not get the one from the disco converted to fit? the input shaft must be shorter for a def?
  7. the problem i have is my lt77 box hax exploded and no longer useable ie trashed beyond repair

  9. failed on a wheel bearing a front brake pipe and the ns sill is rotten near the seat belt ancorage
  10. as per my post earlier on i now own a disco 300 tdi on a p plate done 76k with full history for £250 just gotta see if i can get it to fit in my 90 now! so any advise on the sbject of getting the engine and box into a 90 would be of great intrest to me thought about fixing the disco but think i like the old beaten up 90! can anyone help me with getting pics uploaded to the forum cant seem to do it.
  11. is the disco still a lt77 with a different bell housing, input shaft and lever box bit on the top coz the only bit of my box thats broken is reverse the input shaft is fine
  12. this question has probably been asked before but due to the fact of having to go look at a mot fail disco in a bit with a 300 tdi in it and due to my recent problems with my gearbox blowing up was wondering if anyone knows if a 300tdi engine and box will fit intoa 90 wihtout to much hassle and maybe the axels as well to gain disks on the back many thanks in advance
  13. is an lt77 an lt77 regardless of what vehicle it came from originaly ie disco 200tdi is it just a case of changing the bellhousing or is it geared diffrently?
  14. well iv taken the box apart today and there are no teeth left on the reverse gear and lots of loose bits it the caseing that i have no idea where they came from think it could just be easier and less hassle to get a recon unit and fit it only problem is my box has a bit of the case missing so probably wont get the surcharge anyone know of a place to buy one whitout having to pay the surcarge cost if your box is broken thanks for the help so far people
  15. hello al iv had a bit of a whine from my gear box in 4th and 5th for a little while now as well as a not so nice noise from my transfer box in low range. well after the weekend out and about started to jump out of reverse quite a bit. then got really stuck in quite a deep hole and while trying to get out quite a loud crunch noise then no gears and no movement now the gear lever feels like the only gear that is there is reverse all the others seem blocked and reverse still wont move the truck this evening when i got home from work iv removed the box drained the gear box oil and not alot of metal stuck to the magnet so was hopeing to split the box and repair it any ideas on where to get the parts i might need from also gonna do the transfer box due to when i drained it all that came out was muddy water any help muchly appreciated
  16. it was a pattern part seal that i fitted and it also came with a guide to fit it over the end of the crank guess ill have to try a lr seal in there thanks
  17. yesterday i removed the gear box from my 2.5 td 90 and replaced a leaking crankshaft oil seal all went well. until a went for a longish drive and when i got home looked underneath and there it was the oil dripping out of the gearbox wadeing plug hole. now im sure i didnt mess the seal up when fitting it. the crank was clean and not pitted the question is any one got an idea why it still leaks? could i have a crank shaft end float issue?
  18. how can i find out what red my 90 was painted with when it left the factory? the chassi plate has a section on it saying paint but its blank any ideas chaps? was gonna try and get it painted the original colour
  19. hello all after a weekend out and about with a few mates getting stuck here and there i seem to have a leak, quite sure its engine oil due to i belive the gear box oil is dextron, the oil is running out of the gearbox bellhousing plug hole. now while out being bit of a recovery vehicle the clutch seemed to get very hot and slip easily could that be whats melted the rear main seal or is it more likely the seal failed on a 30000 mile engine and caused the clutch problem? next problem gear box has become silghtly noisey in 4th and 5th and my transfer box is noisey in low range so removing the box to do the seal seems a good time to sort out all teh probs in one go has anyone got a good gear and transfer box for a 89 2.5td 90 laying around that they would be willing to sell?????????????????
  20. I know what you mean mate ^^^^^^ i seem to have had the same type of kit using brit part and pro comp and got more lift than it said on the tin and as you say handles well on road and off to tell ya the truth
  21. was just looking at there site mate
  22. do you know any way i could check or things to look out for on buying a s/hand one?
  23. i posibly also have problem with center diff lock cant find out if it works correctly and dont wanna damage it any more than it is already. but surely replacing the transfer box would sort this anyway? so a disco transfer box would fit on my 90 with no hassle as long as its got the same ratio it wont matter?
  24. only does it in low range and when its on the move
