  1. hello again after the weekend iv had a bearing noise from the rear of my truck and finally got round to checking it today as it seems to be getting worse well on the diff input flange there is about 1\4 of an inch play in every direction and oil running out of it and im guessing the bearing will have broken up or something would it have damaged anything else inside so i couldnt rebuild it or will a bearing and seal kit and some time see it up and running again? any one with any experience in this matter? thanks guys
  2. sorry forgot to mention i have a part external part internal roll cage fitted so there is a hoop and some rear stays kinda messing up putting them on the inside
  3. i agree with above comment and im an mot tester and have had visable brake pipes that looked in better nick than the above ones burst during a brake test. after all your trying to get the wheels to lock by pressing the pedal as hard as you can and how often do you atcually do that while driving down the road!
  4. hello all just wondering if any of you have any pics or ideas about where to mount said items on a non truck cab 90 many thanks
  5. i agree that no amount of suspension travel will out do diff locks but was just wondering what they meant by inboard as iv seen a 90 in a magazine rcently with the rear shocks inside the spring and wondered why? and couldnt see how that would help but fitting them further toward the center of the axle would i guess.
  6. hello all have been at lro show today and during the twist off ramp show there was a mention of a a couple of trucks having inboard rear shocks and it helping with axle travel have any of you heard of or done this mod??? not sure what trucks it was on think one was a 110 and one was a rangerover possibly
  7. yea i only have a manual on off switch on the dash am gonna pick up an x fan switch thing at the lro show at peterborough and i have taken my rad and intercooler out today and they are full of mud gonna give them a clean and then see what happens to the temp on a run. but it has always run hot even before i have used it off road with that engine in it. oh well ill see what happens. and maybe ill try another fan before i change it back to a viscous one!
  8. yea the motor on the fans i have fitted have jammed solid and can only get them to move by takeing them off and kinda beating them till all the mud and crud falls out, then a spray with some wd40 just to lube it all and away it goes for a bit till the last one nearly caught fire well lots of smoke from the motor anyway, and yea my 300 tdi lump has always run hot after a long run well not even a long one really about 5 miles and its hot ie over half way up the guage, dont know the history of the lump but i have read somewhere that this could be due to the pump being tampered with.
  9. hello again all im having some issues with my cooling fan i have fitted a 300 tdi in my 90 and fitted an electric fan in place of the viscous one,and glad that id read on here about fitting mondeo ones as iv fitted 3 in the last 2 months now i know they are from scrappys but that dont stop them filling up with mud and jamming up. have thought about returning it to a standard viscous fan and have been and got one but its off a 200 tdi and i dont think it will fit but it was all they had there. can it be addapted? can i just buy a viscous unit for a 300 and fit the blades off the 200 fan? or am i mistaken in saying it wont fit? of how do you guys keep your electric fans going? any ideas how it can done as id really like to keep the electric one!!!! would a proper kenlow or simalar fan be better? any ideas welcomed thanks in advance
  10. well the weekend just gone the 90 threw its alt belt off due to the bearing giveing up totally and letting the pully tip, gonna have a look in some scrappys next weekend and see if i can get a deal on the whole front cover as long as i can find a decent one.in sure there will be plenty of dead 300tdi discos about unless everyone has had the engines away to put in there 90s thanks for all the help chaps
  11. hello all im sure its been covered on here before but i cant find it anyway this is the problem i have im aerial was mounted on a light bar on the front of my 90 for a while all working fine. then i fitted a rollcage to it and moved the aerial to the rear of the truck through the roof and havent used the cb until this weekend just gone and it dont work cant hear anyone or be heard by anyone even if they are sat next to me. and i have seen other 90s with them mounted on the rear. i have checked all the connections of the unit and aerial and all are in good order, is it possible that it just wont work where i have put it? is it because the roof is ally? can it be made to work where it is? or am i gonna have to move it and fix a hole it the roof? thanks
  12. thanks western the bearing im on about is the one on the fan pully. the cambelt kit part is just what i was looking for thanks
  13. hello all i have a couple of question for you that hopefully some oe will be able to point me in the rite direction i have a 300tdi from a 96 plate disco in my 90 and seen to have a bearing noise from the pulley that the viscous fan would be on if i had one have removed the belt and spun the pulley and it sounds really bad. can the bearing be replaced or is it part of the timeing chest and not replaceable seperatly? if it can be done has anyone done one,ie how hard and any special tools req???? second one is lookin into doing the cambelt as not sure when it was done last and been loking at belt kits on various sites and there seen to be 2 kits an early or late one any idea what kit i would need????? and do you get every thing you need in the kit or is it onr of those kits where you get it all in bits and realize there is a gasket or a seal thats not in the kit that you need???? many thanks
  14. hello all does anyone know if its possible to change a 24v winch to 12v easily? or is it possible to run a 24v winch on a 12v truck in some way? iv seen articles about some trucks running 24v winches but they could have been running 24v everything. any ideas welcomed
  15. that was kinda what i was thinking was happening as the water i have been driving through has been over the bonnet most of the time and there is a whole i have noticed in the side of the cap and was wondering if anyone had put a breather on in that worked and how they had done it
  16. would there not be any leaks of fluid outwards if the pump seals were leaking?
  17. well the first time it happened i thought it was that so re filled the system with new fluid and bled it all worked a treat for a few weeks, next off road trip and deep water, and its happened again and wea it kinda looks like a very thin pink milkshake and the steering starts to get very tight is ti possible for air to get in the system only on one day after being fine for weeks of use? thanks ps ill go and check all the pipe work later on
  18. hello all i seem to be having trouble with wathr getting into my pas fluid turning it to a pink mess and then it throws itself all out of the truck all over the road. i drive it through deep water so have a raised air intake and all the breathers for the axels and such, is there any thing that can be done to the pas tank lid to stop the water getting in as that is the only place it can be getting in any ideas? thanks in advance.
  19. well that is what iv done mate i mounted the gear box on the original mounts so the propshafts off my 90 would fit this did mean the gear levers are further back than normal and i now have no center seat. the seat box had to be cut and shut a bit to get it to fit and i have got the center consol out of the disco inbetween the seats at the moment to make it look a bit neater. then fitted the engine on its new mounts further forward than the original engine was fitted but still plenty of room for everything else to be fitted around it. and the only problem i had with the axels was the input flange on the rear one and that was easily sorted by ordering some bits from ashcroft transmissions to fit my 90 propshaft i can take some pics if it would help and maybe email them to you
  20. I have Fitted a 300 tdi engine, gearbox and axles from a p plate discovery to my f plate 90. it was relativly easy to do but you only want to change the engine i guess and i didnt have to worry about the old gear box fitting the engine. as far as the engine fitting all i had to do was cut the old mounts off and fab up some new ones and weld them on it the rite place, all pipe work and stuff were easy to fit and match up as was the wireing harness only thing is im not sure if the glow plugs work so need to check that really at some point, although it starts fine as its direct injection just one cold day it might let me down
  21. hello all after a pay and play day i have got a squeak from under my 90 had a quick look underneath found a bit of movement in one of the prop ujs so removed the prop diff lock engaged and went for a drive still there got home this evening and jacked up the rear chocked the wheels started the engine engaged a gear and let the clutch up the squeak seemed to be from rear of prop no movement in uj at all. got an oil can and ran some oil on the oil seal while turning the wheel squeak stopped and has now gone i suspect the bearing may well be on its way out! now the questions 1 surely the bearing should have oil from the diff on it? 2 is the bearing hard to change? whats involved? is it a total strip of the diff? 3 while on the subject has anyone on here fitted an arb diff locker themselvs is it maybe worth etting one fitted if the diff needs stripping? thanks in advance chaps
  22. well in the end after wandering round several scrappys with tape measure in hand i ended up with the seats out of the front of a toyota celica. they fit well and even tip forward so easy to get to jack and such. will try and get some pics of them and put them on here
  23. hello again chaps at present im thinking about bit of an upgrade in the seat department in my 90. mine have kinda past and very uncomforable. was gonna have a look round the local scrappys for some buckety type seats out of a astra sri or that type of seat any of you guys fitted similar to your and if so what were they fom and how easy were they to fit thanks again
  24. hello all i'm thinking of possibly fitting a roll cage to my 90 a part internal part external its mostly used for greenlaneing but have started to atend quite a few pay and play days and have seen a few pics of rolled landrovers and they are quite concerning. and i am gonna ask for your for and against. is there any reasons out there for not having one or having a diffrent type? have any of you out there experienced a roll with or with out a cage? i can see the point of you only ever really need a cage if you roll it! but just some opinions would be handy before i hand over my cash what have you guys got? thanks all
  25. i have the same tyres on my 90 no problem at all, if i could work out how to put pics on here i would so you could see them on mine
