thanks matey, saves digging through the garage looking for all kinds of screwdriver/torx bits that cars usually have! I think the regulators are around £25 on ebay new, so its probably not worth the hassle of getting it spot welded and hoping its perfect, if that is the cause of the failure.

Need to remove the front door card to find out why the window has dropped down - is it easy to do and is there anything i need to look out for? (expect that the rollers on the regulator have broken, but will see) thanks James

Thanks for the replies - I have a friend on the hunt for one as he thinks he may have some tucked away. will know after the weekend. other than that, it looks like ebay (risk of buying another dodgy one) or buying a new one and getting someone to weld a head on the top. I am still confused as to why none of the manufacturers offer one with an axle tube head on!

My bottle jack failed today while I was lifting my disco (luckily the wheel was still on so nothing was damaged) and from the looks of it, the casing has cracked slightly! So, does anyone know where to get a replacement bottle jack that has the correct shaped head? I looked on ebay, machine mart and various other places and could only find ones with flat heads - which doesnt really appeal to me from a safety point of view! I have found a couple of mercedes sprinter tool kits on ebay, and the bottle jacks in them have the correct head, but I am curious to see if there are any more about - LR wanted £93 for a new one! thanks James

Hi, I am going to be replacing the steering box on my discovery 1 in the next few weeks, using the guide in the technical archive I'm planning to buy a reconditioned box from autopost, but just wanted to know if anyone has had any trouble with the sellers themselves, or the product? they seem to be the cheapest at £128+delivery, but is there a reason behind it? thanks for any information or advice

My 300TDi Disco is with Flux, (Im 23) and they were the cheapest by quite a way too - as well as offering the best policy.
