  1. Join a car club - I am a member of a few others (Peugeot Sport Official Owners Club and the Mitsubishi Lancer Register) and Flux knocked 10% off my premium on the discovery. only £40 to me, but £200 for you...worth a try!
  2. drill it and then use an easy-out to remove the remains of the plug.
  3. Do the current model defenders not have the H/L and D/L selection then? If they do then surely the sales staff need to know what it is?
  4. Put it in lock and jack one corner up - if the wheel spins freely, it is not locked, if it doesnt - it is. takes 2 minutes with the bottle jack and is what I have started doing once I have come back on road if I have been off and used the DL. saves winding it up.
  5. Yes it wil probably just be stuck - I sorted mine out by removing the centre console, making a small slit in the boot on the transfer lever and then spraying around half a can of WD40 down it will stiring it through all the selections until it felt like new. Get the back up on stands to level it out a bit - its only another 5 mins work to get a better reading!
  6. Like both the Range Rovers but not keen on the Disco at all!
  7. Thanks for that Ed. Will get them bought
  8. Well I have had a snoop around on other forums and cant really find much bad said about them - apart from one guy who used them for trialling and couldn't get on with them. Might treat myself to some and see how I get on with them!
  9. No idea about the problem, but as said - dont just put a bigger fuse in. Its blowing for a reason and if you increase the fuse size and the fault is still there then something else has to go - usually wiring.
  10. Have seen these on www.camskill.co.uk and was wondering if they are any good as a budget version of the BFG MT? They are around £40 cheaper each so they are quite tempting. There are a few threads on them but nothing too conclusive as to what they are like. Need them for wet rutted tracks where my GY wranglers are no longer cutting it. cheers, James edit: RT03
  11. even on landrovers, with the amount that appear to be going missing recently?
  12. sad desperate attention off landrover-geek types
  13. buy yourself a landrover magazine and have a look in the back for all the specialist insurers - they may be able to offer you a better deal than the mainstream insurers such as directline etc.
  14. I'll give you 18pence and consider it sold!
  15. well your disco is beautiful - I know which one I would rather have!
  16. Only issue with the window film is that if they want to get in, they may try other things - if they cant break the window, they'll either try to gouge the lock out and damage the door, or try to bend the door frame over, also causing far more damage than the broken window. might stop the opportunist, but the slightly more determined ones will do something else to get in
  17. I shouldn't worry about it - mine stayed in for 18 miles on tarmac until the missus did a tight right hander out of a parking spot where there was a massive bang and it popped out. still works fine. stick it in difflock, jack it up and try to turn one wheel. it shouldnt move. if it does, there is a problem....
  18. As others have said, the standard disco bottle jack is a two stage ram unit with the axle cup on the top...designed to lift the vehicle with the axle tube. there is plenty of lift on it to get your disco up in the air to change the wheel, although using mine to do it once (without an axle stand) the casing of the jack cracked and dropped the vehicle down. So I wouldn't advise one without a stand. but other than that, its perfectly capable. not a chance I would advise balancing the jack on the stand!
  19. The relationship between cable size and current has many different factors with it - type of cable, number of cores, number of circuits in the trunking - all this information is in the Big Red Book - the 17th Edition Regulations. you want 4mm for up to 34Amps use ( multicore thermoplastic insulated and sheathed non-armoured cables) which is "free in air" (ie its not enclosed or clipped to a wall.)
  20. run a set of road tyres and a set of mud tyres on steelies? get a nut gun and bottle jack + pair of axle stands for pit-lane fast change overs.
  21. find a local windscreen fitter and ask them for one of the pads they use. I used pads from halfords and they worked fine for me!
  22. guy I work with has a factory fit one on his RRC.
  23. mine does this occasionally when the spring runs out of wd40! keep a small table knife in the drivers door pocket for the occassion!
  24. it was a hammer drill! it will be going back, dont worry! but for a refund, not replacement! as the saying goes, "buy cheap, buy twice" (and also get left up **** creek half way through a job)
  25. My old man driving us around the shetland isles in a 110 county when I was about 7! off through fields, rivers, down to the beaches, on to the cliff tops and every time we wanted to park it outside the house he had to drive over a ditch and doing it without any problems!
