  1. I had a "power craft" drill from aldi - fine for putting my decking together, but as soon as I tried to drill an M10 hole in a brick the chuck snapped. great quality!
  2. mine are quite bad for leaks so when I had the front tyres changed they sanded down the rim and then fitted some kind of band to the inside of the bead - only cost £3 a wheel at F1 autocentre in peterborough
  3. if warn are a non-uk company then dont forget the current economic climate is making importing parts VERY expensive compared to what they used to be!
  4. I asked on disco3.co.uk and didn't get much of a response other than "look through the forums and you'll see what to look out for" well, that meant every single thing that could go wrong would go wrong if you look in the "problems" section! tbh I dont think there is a lot you can do other than the general checks of making sure there is no previous damage, no warning lights/alarms (not sure if it is all computerised for fault telling, so that you cant remove a warning lamp) and that everything electrical is working correctly - over and over again. NONE of them should be rusty (yet), most are just out of warranty buy a year or two so most owners would get any issues sorted before they ran out. Ring a dealer and make sure the vehicle has had any recalls done, what warranty work has been done, what parts have been bought against the chassis number/reg etc. drive a few, dont pick the first one you go to (you need something to compare against) and then dive in and buy!
  5. he's already mentioned telling the insurance company about the mod, so pipe down.
  6. cant you ring the local council and ask them weather it is open or not?

    Low range

what i use mine for! 2nd gear low range, keep the feet off the pedals and let it do its own thing!
  8. Have any of you got chequer plate on the lower parts of the doors? below the bump strips? looking to get some but unsure as to how it would look... any pictures appreciated! cheers
  9. Have you got a link to this information from a reliable source? As this is how I have been towing recently, and was unaware of this rule. thanks
  10. seems strange that if they are so overpriced, so terrible etc then why do you see literally DOZENS of them every day when out and about? its probably the most common 4x4 on the road at the minute. to people who want to spend £3K on something that is basically a tractor and will go on forever then it probably is terrible, but to people who buy executive estates, luxury saloons et al then its probably "just the norm" very expensive and hideously complicated to work on! I'd have one, but I dont think I could live with myself if I had to sell my current "nice" car go slow everywhere!
  11. Ok thanks. why doesn't pulling the lever into the unlocked position actually unlock the diff all the time then? is there any way of solving this issue?
  12. Having used the Difflock on my disco to get me out of a snowy forest track yesterday, the light wouldn't go out when I took it out. I tried reversing, banging the difflock lever in and out and driving normally, none of which have changed it. The light was on all the way to work this morning (18 miles) but the missus has just phoned to say she pulled out of a parking space (full lock to the right) and there was a massive "bang" and now the light has gone out. I told her to carry on driving as she reported no further strange bangs, clunks or grinding noises. Can I assume then that it was stuck in difflock and has just released itself? Why does it stick like this? surely if the lever is over in the unlocked position, the difflock cant still be in? thanks for any advice! James
  13. 4x4 helps you pull away, thats it. doesn't help you stop or go around corners! plenty of X5, XC90 and range rover owners thinking its still safe to do 40-50mph down uncleared roads in peterboghorror.....
  14. Anyone used them? Just spending a really exciting sunday afternoon flicking through the Natwest magazine.... when they mention these are a good way of saving money - they dont do repairs, so they have no vested interest in either passing or failing your car. which sounds good, because I know some places can be a bit funny about it, hoping they will get work! anyone used one then? good, bad, indifferent?

    Fuel Range

600 to a tank, but thats after having the light on for a loooooong time!
  16. Something to do with europe at a guess! I will be taking my test this year hopefully, but you are right - it is expensive, the courses seem to be around £750! I didn't pay that much to learn to drive in the first place FFS!
  17. As I understand - A vehicle up to 3500KG MAM can tow a trailer of up to 750KG MAM A vehicle can tow any trailer provided the MAM of the trailer is LOWER than the UNLADEN weight of the towing vehicle and both when loaded (so thats the vehicle actual weight, weight of passengers, tools, equipment etc, the trailer weight and the weight of the trailer load) come under 3500KG. remember that if you get caught over weight or outside of the limits, you do not have the correct license to drive and therefore have no insurance! ONE way to get around this legally is to have someone who has had the B+E license for more than three years or someone who passed their test before Jan 1997 to sit beside you while you tow, and have L plates on - its what I did when I had to tow a car transporter with my other car on!
  18. Made mine out of wooden planks, they are 6ft long and 14" tall and 12" wide so there is plenty of room to get under them! plank lengths from 6ft (bottom) to 6" for the top one, shortening by 9" each level. plenty of room to get under them and no chance of them collapsing on you if your welding isn't great.
  19. I never carry mine, just incase I lose them. costs a few quid to get them replaced! there is a charge of not carrying your documents if you are stopped and asked to produce, but as most people dont carry them they allow you to go away with the producer. If I was going to a P&P, trackday, 1/4 mile run day etc I would take my license, insurance and MOT. no point driving there and being turned away!
  20. 1st January 1997 not sure if having a licensed person next to you allows you to drive it legally. PROVIDING you have L plates on, as it does with trailers.
  21. grip the steering shaft with something (like a pair of grips?) and twist it to full lock and then see where the noise comes from?
  22. Then it should be moderated as such, rather than being treated like I would by my mum when I was five. You know, "If you dont have anything nice to say, don't say anything"
