  1. I'n no expert on materials but I would consider EN8 or EN16, probably not available in hex though. Heat treatable material is a non starter unless you have contacts in heat treatment. Case hardened or through hardened materials are not going to do machining tools much good!
  2. It would pay to specify the material as most hex bar is 'free cutting' and not suitable (not strong enough) for steering components.
  3. Well spotted Turbocharger, that one bats for the other side! Only a few Mole, Kamasa are fairly good, the black ones are the latest and good at the moment. Rest are varying degrees of carp but do the job.
  4. I Don't grip have mole mole a grip mole fetish mole grip problem. Do I?
  5. Bought another one today, a 32 oz shot filled mallet. Anyone counting Mole grips?
  6. As a paying guest, no. But there may be an opening for quad mounted marshals in the future.
  7. I use this one. Made from aluminium, 120mm dia x 24mm wide roller whith phos bronze bush. Designed to be light, quick to use (no shackle) and take a rope with a join in it, the groove is deep enough to keep the rope from finding it's way between the roller and side plate.
  8. We are all having a joke, aren't we? It cost me £1.14 Silly HBRO So what!
  9. Pete, you should have said earlier, I would have loved to!
  10. I've seem some pieces of sh1te in my time............ But this certainly ain't one of them! There is an awfull lot of design and work gone into producing such a fine vehicle. Hats off to you!
  11. In answer to questions: Adrian, best keep to road legal tyres and then you can’t be accused of damage or cheating! The field access is a problem and there are plans to address the problem but the costs are high. At the moment we will have to advise no road tyres while the ground is wet. Peter, there is no limit on numbers, in fact the organisers would like to see more! A JBS style punch challenge takes a lot of setting out but I can put out more punches and include easier ones but it would be a ‘go find’ affair as producing a map or giving co-ordinates is too time consuming. The idea of the punches last time was to provide a real challenge for those who wanted it and entertainment for others! The pond is deep. On site winch operation guidance can be given, if I’m busy or can’t be bothered(!) there are others with experience, ask me or someone who looks like they should know what they are doing! If there is enough interest I could do a ½ hour session with a group? If you went last time there is no need to email me, just post on here or PM me. If you didn’t go last time I need name and reg, on here, PM or email paul@blackpig.org. The guest list looks like this at the moment. Graham Antill Adrian Turner Pete Silvester Chris Lever Tim Cane Dave Connaway
  12. Sorry if I didn't reply last time, ANY 4x4 is welcome. I anyone has contact with other make clubs/forums could you put the word out.
  13. Sunday 19th February at Rusper. £27 cash on the gate. 9.30am start, 3.30pm finish. Same booking format as before, if you know anyone else who would be interested tell them to get in contact with me. If we can get the numbers up we can have the site to ourselves! Keeps the pikies and nutters out! Any suggestions would be appreciated, marked routes, site map, convoys, mini winch challenge etc. The organisers want to have a brief chat with everyone this time hence the earlier start. Bathtub Pete IS invited regardless of tyre size!
  14. Pete, you drive it and I promise not to enter into a credit card motors debate! Response so far is good but if there are any comments regarding improvements for the future please let me know. Spoke to the organisers today and they’re happy! Keen to do it again so I will start a new thread.
  15. Well, that was fun wasn't it? I hope everyone enjoyed themselves? The weather held up and we had a good turn-out, only Millsy missing (maybe next time!), the Kent guys did well in fairly standard vehicles although one guy (sorry I can’t remember your name) appears to have done a rear diff early on and Phil Haines (Chichester 4x4) did a CV. Oh yes, Dave Antill did a little body restyling and Steve G gained his first dent! In the afternoon I chucked a few punches out which provided some spectator sport, don’t make them too difficult I thought, wrong! Some proved a bit tricky. Jim (D90SV) declined to attempt any of them! Nick (Rouge Vogue) got all 10 but managed to unseat a tyre which we promptly popped back on, Dave Antill did all his damage on one punch and Graham (Ripley) got himself into some unnecessary but very entertaining situations! Nick doing a bit of winching. Lee being winched. Jim "I'll push this button, you drag the rope up the hill!" Jim using both winches (the picture doesn't show the true angle!). Graham being entertaining! Let me know what you thought of the day, we may do it again!
  16. For those who can't be bothered to read the thread:- Location, Dial Post Farm, Rusper, (just north of Horsham) TQ1986836671 Look for signs saying 28 X 4 10am start, please don't turn up early as the gates will be locked and we don't want a fleet of machines blocking the lane! Finish 3.30pm £27.00 cash on the gate. Burgers and hot drinks will be on sale on site. I am not running the event, only telling everyone about it. Final guest list:- Tom Alder Peter King Mike Burgess KLRC Adrian Catchpole Dave Napper KLRC David Cordell KLRC Bill Rixon Adrian Turner Richard Weatherly Steve Gurney Dave Connaway Nick Watts Chris Iron Pete Silvester Mark Catchpole Ian Saltmarsh KLRC Nigel Pithers Graham Hirst Simon Rafferty Lee Longhurst Graham Antill Mark Antill Dave Antill Chris Watts James Middlemass Steven Deacon Mike Hammond Phil Haines Pete Turner Ian Patterson Simon Pearson Kev Mills James Standing Trevor Kear See you all there, lets hope it's a good one!
  17. Daan, You asked how I get the rims to run true? My method is once the centre is removed is to have the centre and rim shot blast so they are nice and clean. I have a piece of tube, about 10” dia machined to length so when the centre is placed on it on the hub mating surface it sets the desired offset. This is done on a FLAT steel plate, then the rim is heated with a gas torch enough to expand it to drop over the centre, allowed to cool and in doing so shrinks onto the centre which means the rim will run true with the hub face. Weld and paint, jobs a good un!
  18. Confirmation, there will be a BBQ run by the site organisers so burgers and hot dringk will be on sale during the day. Guest list update. If your not on it your not comming in! Tom Alder Peter King Mike Burgess KLRC Adrian Catchpole Dave Napper KLRC David Cordell KLRC Bill Rixon Adrian Turner Richard Weatherly Steve Gurney Dave Connaway Nick Watts Chris Iron Pete Silvester Mark Catchpole Ian Saltmarsh KLRC Nigel Pithers Graham Hirst Simon Rafferty Lee Longhurst Graham Antill Mark Antill Dave Antill Chris Watts James Middlemass Steven Deacon Mike Hammond Phil Haines Pete Turner Ian Patterson Simon Pearson Kev Mills James Standing
  19. Reversed Discovery rims for me, cheap (if you reverse them yourself) and strong.

  21. OK I will answer but I won't! I do not think your vehicle would cross the same ground & cause less damage than mine & most other vehicles because you have no throttle control, just an on/off button! Your gripe is with some of the major competition organisers who are trying (be it right or wrong) to minimise damage to sites be limiting tyre size. Some are attempting to stop ‘cheque book’ vehicles and keep the amateur status of events. Just in case you missed the point.......... I was joking!
  22. Is that you Captain Sensible ? Course I did, honest injun, my pinkies were a blur!!!!!!!!
