  1. Only thing I'd say is is that it would be wise to fit some tip-over vents so that if you do put the truck on it's roof, you don't empty the tank out through the breather pipe and start a fire in the process. tends to be a little ball valve that is used on motorcycles et cetera
  2. The wolf rims are clear, and supposedly are recommended to be used by Zeus on their kits, even they couldn't be fussed to design it properly
  3. It's so oval..... it's round Every lug has the same amount Calliper was free to move on it's pins, just a poor design putting it so close the rim before pads even start to wear
  4. No, it hits every dish mounting point the same amount, wheel is round
  5. I thought this was worth posting up in the main forum rather than in the Technical forum as it may get missed in there, particularly if someone is thinking of buying a second hand kit (since now they produce the mkII version). I have had my kit fitted on my vehicle for about 5,000 miles now and have just got around to getting some new rims and tyres fitted. While removing the offside front wheel I noticed this chamfer on the calliper body: Turns out it matches the rim as well and has been taking a nice chunk slowly out of the rim: This is a Series III 109 LWB rim with the MKI TIConsole kit fitted, I had problems fitting it and now have found that during service and the movement of the calliper has resulted in it now coming into contact with the rim. I would therefore recommend that all users of this kit check their vehicles ASAP that the same is not happening to their vehicle, and for those people thinking of buying one of these kits, if you do then please do clearance checks on assembly to determine that the system will not fowl in use. In theory as Chris Perfect was originally supplying TIConsole kits, and then producing his own, this may also affect his MKI kits! I will shortly be emailing TIConsole to inform them that I have found another problem with their kit
  6. Just sit in the cab and make "brum brum" noises, works for me at present
  7. Aiy, that's why I said had done rather than has now must get my R380 finished since blowing my LT77 up oh and it was done in reverse going onto the drive
  8. or as Tonk, JW and I have done, LT77 to Series Transfer case. All depends what you want and how you want to go about it.....
  9. Any of the teenagers around my area, took me to visit seven shops and garages before I could find a refill bottle of lighter gas for my soldering torch little buggers are inhaling the stuff
  10. I suspect this will also affect people driving 4x4's that are not registered around farms, play sites that do not require VED and insurance being available et cetera: From: mag-uk-activists-bounces@lists.mag-uk.org [mailto:mag-uk-activists-bounces@lists.mag-uk.org] On Behalf Of Director of Public Affairs MAG-UK Sent: 13 March 2007 16:08 To: MAG UK Email Army Subject: [MAG-UK-Activists] Motorcycle Action Group: 'Off Road Vehicles(Registration) Bill' TO THE EMAIL ARMY 'Off Road Vehicles (Registration) Bill' Issued 13th March 2007 Graham Stringer MP for Blackley Manchester, (labour), has introduced his 'off road vehicles, (registration) bill by way of a private members bill. The Bill received its second reading on Friday 2nd March 2007. The bill was voted through to the committee stage by a significant majority. This bill has been brought about to deal specifically with localised problems caused by the irresponsible, illegal and anti social use of mini motos. These are miniature motorbikes purchased at very low cost and which have been imported mainly from China. These machines are not intended for road use. They do not meet construction and use and other legal requirements and are not 'type approved'. As a consequence they are outside any form of registration scheme. The intention of the Bill is to extend the current registration scheme which applies to road vehicles to include those vehicles used off road. The belief, by supporters of the bill, is that such a scheme will prevent anti social and illegal use and make it easier for the police to deal with the problem. The wording of the bill in its current form does not differentiate between types of vehicles. It would include off road motorcycles used legitimately by responsible owners in sporting events held off road. These would include; Trials, Moto cross, speedway, grass tracking, enduros, road racing on purpose built circuits and closed roads such as the Isle of Man TT races. It would also affect farmers, council and theme park workers who use quad bikes for essential work off road. The government does not want this bill to be passed. At the second reading the roads minister Dr Steven Ladyman made it clear that the bill was unnecessary and unworkable. He outlined that there were already sufficient powers allowing the police, local authorities and other agencies to deal with this problem. Intention The intention of this campaign is to challenge the bill to ensure that it fails. Methodology MAG will encourage members to write to their MPs using a suggested letter format attached to the end of this report. MAG will engage with other interest groups, e.g. MCIA, ACU, BMF, RAC Foundation Countryside Alliance and others to generate a critical mass, increasing our collective lobbying power. Administration MAG Campaigns Manager will develop the campaign appropriate with the emerging situation. 11. brakes are 3/16" pipe, clutch is 1/4" pipe, Vehicle Wiring Products or RTBarton have the pipe and fittings
  12. Taken from Ashcrofts: This would mean that you can not just change the input pinion, as you would have to change the layshaft as well. So unfortunately not as easy as it would initially seem
  13. Ok, since I got my 2WD R380 off of an LDV400 Convoy 1.9NAD (Peugeot Engine), it got me thinking if it was a suitable Land Rover engine..... The statistics: Unfortunately I can't find the 2.5NAD's power for 90's, 110's et cetera, but I seem to remember it aint 71BHP, does anyone else know? Seems a few of these Peugeot engines are popping up now, so I thought I would do some checks on measurements. The LDV400 seems to have had an original bell housing for the O series engine modified with a 3/8" metal adapter plate to mate it to the Peugeot 1.9: If we compare bell housings, taken from the gearbox mounting face, to the engine mounting face, they come out as follows: R380 V8: 12" R380 1.9D: 7.5" LT77 4 cyl: 5 5/8" LT77 4 cyl with V8 adapter plate: 7.5" As we know, an LT77 bell housing for a 4cyl model is the same as a Series vehicle, and that fitting a V8 bell housing adapter for a 4 cyl model to either gearboxes does not move the engine or transmission with a V8 in and with commercially available engine mounts, the 1.9D looks like a viable option for fitting into 90's and 110's that presently have a 2.5NAD. This is naturally having some assumptions that this will mean clearance at the bulkhead, and engine mounts being roughly in the right place. Next detail, the input pinion shaft. As is well known with fitting a V8 into a Series or a 90/110 that has previously had a 4 cyl engine matted to the transmission, the spigot bushes differ in size. this can either be cured by a spigot bush adapter, or machining the input pinions nose where it locates into the flywheel spigot bush. Here are the shafts: LT77 4 cyl: R380 1.9D: R380 V8: As can be seen, these input pinions do vary widely, and the dimensions are as follows: A = From gearbox bell housing mounting face, to start of clutch splines B = From gearbox bell housing mounting face, to end of splines C = From gearbox bell housing mounting face, to end of input shaft D = Spigot Nose diameter LT77 4 cyl: A; 4 3/4" B; 6 3/8" C; 7 3/8" D; 7/8" R380 1.9D: A; 4 3/4" B; 7" C; 8" D; 12mm R380 V8: A; 7 3/4" B; 10 1/2" C; 11 3/8" D; 7/8" All have 25mm dia 23 spline clutch splines Now, the input pinion is a tricky one to get one's head around. However looking at the figures of the LT77 and R380 input pinions having the splines start at the same figure, and having roughly the same lengths after that by being only out by 5/8", that it is theoretically reasonable to be able to offer up the R380 1.9D bell housing onto an LT77 gearbox, modify the input pinion by machining it down to 12mm diameter over the first 1/2" of it's length, and all will mate up together no problem. Only issue would be the clutch slave cylinder being on the drivers side, I think an SD1 input pinion cover could be sourced that has the release on this side so that you would have the associated clutch arm pivot point, however something could be fabricated. This leaves us with one question, will the Peugeot lump actually fit in a Defender or Series engine bay? I do not know this unfortunately. But I did see n engine over at Richard Noon's car breakers near Andover, Hampshire, which originally had an R380 2WD gearbox mounted to it...... so if anyone fancies doing some research, that would tie this down
  14. Ah, well I just measured up items as follows: LT77 from front face to rear face: 14 1/4" R380 from front face to rear face: 15 1/4" LT77 4 cyl bell housing and V8 Adapter plate: 7 1/2" R380 V8 Bell Housing: 12" So, at present I have from V8 to Transfer Case Adapter Plate 21 3/4" Fitting the R380 and the V8 Bell Housing would be 27 1/4", which unfortunately would put my hand brake disc 2" within the cross member behind my transmission, and I don't chop chassis's, so anyone wanna buy a V8 bell housing
  15. dunno, will check what I have in the machining kitbox tonight
  16. M14? is that for a handbrake cable? I had to buy an M14x..... to do my hand brake conversion, think I also have the 12.8mm drill lying around somewhere.....
  17. ahhh, did you have to scollop the bell housing cross member as per 1T and 109MIL chassis to clear it?
  18. just to add in, here is the output flange: The brake drum is mounted on the outer flange six bolts, and is in this region that the disc is fitted to. The propshaft yoke is mounted within the inner recess on the four bolts, this does not change on either. R380 wise, when Tonk and John White had an extra 4" (ooh err) in their SWB 88's, the only issues they had was a propshaft spacer of 4" on the front output shaft, a shortened prop on the rear, and 4" extended gearbox mounting plates as what I copied the basis of on my 109: However it has to be taken into account that Tonk is running a TDi on standard series chassis location, and John is running a V8 on standard chassis location, and were therefore running a standard 4cyl LT77 bell housing, to do the same with an R380 the ultra stubby FTC4018 bell housing and associated bits are required, but the only place I found so far who had a price, but none in stock was £386.50 inc VAT
  19. Good question, off ill at present, but when I get a chance I'll have a measure of what the bell housing and V8 adapter plate comes out as
  20. ah now that's interesting, will have to measure a standard LT77 bellhousing with V8 adapter plate and see how they compare
  21. Cheers Al, that's a bit of a concern will have to do some serious searching before I commit any more funds me tinks
  22. Thanks for that Dave, I take it the nose cone is the item that the clutch release bearing slides along?
