  1. Give them a ring, I bought my cage from them and were VERY helpful with supplying bits of tube, joiners, brackets and plates and so on when I decided to modify the way i had it mounted at a later stage.

ditto the above :) they are very helpful and good value for money :)

here is a pic of parts i've got from them, they bent some cds for my rear tray as per my dimensions.

  2. Hello,

there are a few of us from around wilmslow area that go out playing quite a bit (we were at wormhough this weekend), that would be up for supporting this series. The only problem being time as i work 3week shifts out at sea, and a mate with an ex challenge vehicle works in the police in cumbria.

I'm back for the buxton event, but he's only available on the sunday.

    Regards

    Gordon

  3. If the thing's too long it can push the clutch "fingers" far enough in to actually permanently engage the clutch, or stranger still it can make the clutch disengaged until you push the pedal, at which point the fingers contact the flywheel and you get some sort of drive

I haven't seen your Disco2 question, where was it?

ok, but if i put the truck in gear, we can't turn the wheels with engine as if it was stuck in gear.

this is my disco post : http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=33122

  4. Was there not a little spacer which doubles up as the spigot bush... about 3" OD, with the same bolt pattern as the flywheel and goes on the clutch side of the flywheel.

aaah, i know the part you mean. yes it's on correct, because this engine was in and working in my series prior to being stripped out.

  5. Check you have the correct combo of clutch & release bearing, if the release bearing is too long it can cause a right load of hassle. Ask me how I know (or better still, ask Jez how I know :P)

errrrrrrr...... i'm running a defender clutch. with an LT77 release bearing.

but surely if the bearing was in the wrong position so to speak, it would just be like the clutch was being pressed, this thing was solidly locked !

what problems did you have ? oh, and have you seen my disco 2 steering question ;)

  6. -8 is the size, AN stands for Army Navy. It is a USA military standard.

AFAIK AN is the same as JIC.

JIC is a hydraulic standard (from memory Joint Industry Conference). The threads are SAE and the flare is 37*.

The size corresponds to the nominal bore of the hose in number of 16ths of an inch.

All of our stuff at work is JIC because i work for a yank company with yank sizes (ft, 10ths of feet, etc!)...Also means i have to supply my own fittings when making hoses lol....

David @ Llama - thanks for my brake hoses received a couple of days ago, very quick delivery, and i'll be ordering again to do the rest of the truck :)

  7. Evening,

Just a quickie, on a disco 2, which pipe going to the steering box comes from the pump ?

I've only got the pipe ends...doh. Which i've got connectors on the end so i can plumb my ZF74 into :) :)

There are 2, one solid, the other with a flexi pipe about 12" long.

Picture stolen from mr white90 :) showing the pipe i mean with the flexi

    Thanks

  8. Evening,

I've been working on my hybrid, where i'm running an LT77 out of a defender, mated up to a milner conversion plate (which i've used to run a series III gearbox onto the v8) and then onto my v8 (out of a P6 / SD1).

But my engine has totally locked up :(

I've slackened off the bellhousing bolts, and then it turns....

I'll take the box out tomorrow to have a look at what is too long, but has anyone else done similar and had this problem ?

    Thanks

    Gordon

  9. 500A+ isn't that much in electric winch territory, it's a wonder no-one's gone to a copper bus bar yet.

unfortunately they are no good for long lengths as they don't flex which causes issues, we considered running them under a car but shy'd away and ran multiple runs of cable instead. however they are a great way of joining (via cable) a battery bank & whatever you wish to run off it.

  10. in answer to your question, ideally in the perfect world you should take an earth back to your battery, but i don't think you will notice any difference if you take it off a solid part of your chassis.

in the past we've compared a single run of cable vs multiple (up to 15 runs of both earth & positive 0awg cable) for a different application, and when pulling high current 500A + we found a small improvemnt, but nothing major.

Here is one such example of multiple runs of 0awg, this isn't cheap !!!!

  11. ignore my reply above, i had the wrong window open and thought i was replying to another thread :o:unsure:

By the time you have messed about with all the loose fittings and paid all the P&P's from all over the place you could have bought one of my lovely kits that does the axles, gearboxes and timing case all in one lovely kit..... there is a pic of one on my website.....

    David :P

    David,

Just out of interest why don't you have a breather going to your bellhousing ?

    G

  12. Clicking the link works fine for me . Spend quite a lot of time on that website dreaming ;).

Side note David, there's a rather amusing typo on the Hydro Assist page.

"Not recommended for hoghway use." - You may have been told previously, appologies if you have just wanted to bring it to your attention.

Just need to get my car sold and I can give the Debit Card a Hammering... I mean.... carefully select mods that will improve my Land Rover .

    Cheers

    Matt

since i started this topic, i've bought myself a disco 2 steering box and got a ZF 74 pump... just waiting for my ram now :)

disco 2 box, still awaiting tapping :

true, but i wish to do the entire vehicle :)

  14. when it says 2 Pneumatic fittings does that mean they supply 2 of them? or am I being stupid?

    yes, you get 2 fittings.

i got all my pipe from him as well, quite cheap £7 for 30m of 6mm, which will probably do about 2 cars !

you can also get 1/4 bsp x 8mm pipe for your engine & bellhousing breathers :)
